High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1126: Chapter 188: Meeting with Thousands of Troops and Horses (Part 2)

Dean Yao of Jiuyou Academy perceived Zheng Qing using the Blood Symbol Bullet at a moment even earlier than the elder Hemingway did.

This was because he had left magic markings on both Zheng Qing’s Charm Gun and the Blood Symbol Bullet—once both were activated simultaneously, Dean Yao would react immediately.

Old man Hemingway needed to wait until the Fu Bullet was fired to assess its power, whereas Dean Yao knew the moment the trigger hit the bullet casing. The distance from the bullet chamber to the muzzle was the instant that Dean Yao reacted a bit earlier than Elder Hemingway.

Of course, the reason for leaving magic markings was not because Yao was addicted to spying and wanted to lay his hands on the young talents of his academy.

He simply wanted to be cautious in case one of the young wizards caused even more chaos before it happened, giving our distinguished dean some buffer time. Ever since last winter’s end, after Zheng Qing had blasted a descendant of Satoguya at Silent River, Professor Yao had made up his mind not to let this young man continue recklessly.

This time, it was just a descendant of that wretch Satoguya. That creature, being far removed from the school by a hundred thousand worlds, would not be of much concern even if it rushed here.

If Zheng Qing had blown up not a descendant of Satoguya but a descendant of a Great Demon or some prodigal son of an alien envoy, would the Wizard World really want to accompany this young wizard into a third World War against demons?

Thus, at the very moment the Blood Symbol Bullet was fired, Professor Yao’s Divine Thought swept across much of the academy and enveloped Zheng Qing.

In an instant, he had grasped the situation on the ground—the situation could not have been worse. The fat man from Alpha Academy competing for the title of Augustus had clashed with Zheng Qing and was about to be blown away by a single shot.

In that split second, Dean Yao had no time to cross the many prohibitions within the academy with his true form to prevent the tragedy. He could only manage to throw his pipe over.

”Tss...”

The brass pipe, carrying a few tufts of ash, broke through the spatial barrier and landed between the Fu Bullet and Sepulano’s head.

”Bang!!”

The blood-red Fu Bullet collided with the suddenly appearing pipe, smashing the brass pipe into pieces, then slowed down a bit, the blood color slightly faded, the trajectory slightly off, and continued towards Sepulano’s shoulder.

With that momentary buffer, elder Hemingway’s wooden staff also made its move.

The ochre-colored staff pierced through space, slanting downward, heavily striking between the Fu Bullet and Sepulano, piercing the blue stone slab on the ground, leaving a spiderweb of cracks.

The staff rooted upon landing, swelling in the breeze, suddenly growing from the thickness of a few fingers to the girth of an elephant’s leg, as if a solid door panel, firmly shielding Sepulano.

The Fu Bullet, wrapped in a faint crimson aura, charged forward, striking a pitch-black, profound hole into the staff, producing strands of green-and-white smoke, and eventually piercing through the staff.

”Hiss...”

From across a great portion of the academy, Dean Yao who had been paying attention to the situation here gasped in cold air, rubbed his hands together, and felt immensely relieved, ”Lucky I just thought of blocking that Fu Bullet with my hand! But what a pity, I had used that pipe for many years...”

With the interventions by Professor Yao and elder Hemingway, the Fu Bullet’s power had already been reduced by 99.9%, and its direction had long since veered off to who-knows-where.

The remaining bit of energy in the Fu Bullet finally hit Sepulano’s shoulder without any hindrance.

The amulets on the Fat Wizard’s body crackled like New Year’s firecrackers for a good while before finally ceasing. The now powerless Fu Bullet ’ding-donged’ as it fell onto the blue stone slab, the runes on it flickering a few times before the entire bullet suddenly turned into a bunch of black ash, piling up together, resembling a small grave mound.

All around, a soft sighing sound arose.

...

...

While this incident occurred at one corner of the academy, outside the campus in Beta Town, someone in the San You Bookstore also sensed it—no, to be precise, a cat sensed it, a Yellow Flowered Cat.

The Yellow Flowered Cat had originally been crouching on the bookshelf, eyeing the two guests who appeared in the store, when suddenly it seemed to discover something. It tilted its head and turned to look outside the window.

”What happened?” one of the guests, Mouse Immortal, who had also keenly detected a brief but intense magic fluctuation in that direction, asked. However, due to the influence of the school’s Guardian Array, the sensation was too vague and chaotic, so he chose to ask the bookstore’s cat. As an old cat, the Yellow Flowered Cat enjoyed many privileges throughout the entire school.

”None of your business,” the Yellow Flowered Cat withdrew its gaze and disdainfully glanced at Mouse Immortal.

Mouse Immortal was unfazed and simply raised a paw to tweak the whiskers at the corner of his mouth, speaking in an inexplicable tone, ”Actually, I felt something was going to happen at the school this morning, so I chose today to come out... just don’t know whether avoiding it was a good thing or a bad thing.”

”Achoo!” Next to Mouse Immortal, a reddish little fat hamster sneezed loudly, interrupting Mouse Immortal’s rambling, ”What’s that smell in here?!”

Looking at the dust stirred up by Fatty Rui, the Yellow Flowered Cat leaned its head back and dryly replied, ”The smell of time.”

Fatty Rui sniffed, disputing the Yellow Flowered Cat’s claim, ”No, not time. It’s the smell of dried mold mixed with stinkbugs, cat urine, and tea dregs. It’s like the scent on those old men about to kick the bucket, giving off a feeling that everything has decayed.”

”You’re not human,” the Yellow Flowered Cat harshly rejected.

”That’s really disappointing... I always thought I was a wizard,” Fatty Rui spread his little paws, with a hint of regret in his tone.

”Mice can be wizards too, but you’re not human,” the Yellow Flowered Cat stuck to its argument, repeating it once more.

”Heh heh,” Fatty Rui chuckled twice, finally ceasing to argue about that topic with the Yellow Flowered Cat.

For a moment, the two mice and one cat had nothing to say, and the bookstore fell into an awkward silence.

After a few seconds of silence, the Yellow Flowered Cat couldn’t help but glance again towards the school outside the window, and finally couldn’t restrain itself, starting, ”You two, why did you come here today, meow? If it’s nothing, then scram, I still have things to do, meow!”

Mouse Immortal and Fatty Rui looked at each other.

”Cough cough,” Fatty Rui coughed softly, whispering, ”In a few days, we might invite Zheng Qing to take a stroll in the woods to explore that newly born Secret Realm... Do you want to check the itinerary in advance?”

Mouse Immortal nodded repeatedly, adding nothing more.

The Yellow Flowered Cat swept its tail, stirring up a cloud of dust and smearing the two mice’s faces, its voice dark and ominous, ”It’s not my concern if you call students out... I can’t possibly know every student in the school!”

”But I need to remind you, if any student from the school gets into trouble because of your actions, then brace yourselves to be buried in the deepest part of Black Prison, serving as fertilizer for that tree!”
