High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1113: Chapter 175 Boys and Girls

”What kind of coffee do you want?”

The warlock quickly adjusted his mindset, stood up, picked up the coffee pot, and poured coffee for the two witches, ”It’s my great pleasure to serve you.”

”Hmm, maybe I should go.” Jiang Yu raised her hand, tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear, and gave Zheng Qing a half-smiling, half-mocking glance, then turned to Elena, ”With Zheng Qing here to help you, you won’t have any difficulty with your homework.”

”But I sought you as my tutor, first come first served.” Elena grabbed Jiang Yu’s arm and pulled her back to her seat, ”At the very least, let me treat you to a cup of coffee.”

Jiang Yu struggled lightly but couldn’t break free from the Gypsy witch’s grip and finally sat down, biting her lip.

The three of them occupied three sides of the coffee table.

Another side of the table was against the wall. On the wall hung a painting with a strange style, where one could barely make out several grotesque figures that looked like ghosts, swinging their weapons at each other. Their feet stood atop blistering magma, while overhead was a low, thunderous sky. From time to time, these ghostly figures would reveal their dark green true forms with either nine heads and a thousand eyes, three heads and six arms, or a thousand heads and two thousand faces. The whole canvas seemed to tremble with a buzzing vibration.

Zheng Qing only glanced at the painting once and then focused all his attention on the coffee pot in front of him. He needed to pour coffee for the two witches. And for himself as well.

Brown coffee flowed through the silver body of the pot and the gemstone nozzle, carrying with it steaming vapor as it fell into the white porcelain cups.

Each cup was filled leaving a finger’s width from the rim, no more, no less.

Zheng Qing felt his hand was very steady.

”Thank you,” Jiang Yu said politely to Zheng Qing with a nod.

”Indeed, it smells so good!” Elena exclaimed as she picked up the cup and took a deep breath of the delightful aroma.

Zheng Qing politely smiled at Jiang Yu and sat down.

He then reached for the sugar bowl, intending to add a bit to his own cup.

At the same time, a pristine white hand also landed on the sugar bowl from the side. One hand on each side, they both grasped the sides of the bowl. Zheng Qing vaguely felt the cool temperature of the hand just millimeters away.

It was as if he had been scalded and he quickly retracted his hand.

Jiang Yu, equally startled, pulled her hand back.

”You actually add sugar to your coffee?! That’s heresy!” The Gypsy witch’s eyes widened in shock as she looked at Zheng Qing and Jiang Yu, laughing out loud. In her hand, she held a salt shaker.

The white, fine salt glinted entrancingly in the light, sprinkling down and leaving tiny ripples on the surface of her coffee.

Zheng Qing gave a dry chuckle, passed over the sugar bowl, and reached for the milk jug to his side.

Without sugar, milk would do. He consoled himself inwardly.

Then his hand once again met another hand with the same idea.

Jiang Yu looked at the warlock with a mix of embarrassment and irritation, irritation mixed with a hint of amusement. Once again, they retracted their hands simultaneously.

”What’s the fuss, just adding something to your drink is this complicated,” The Gypsy witch finally seemed to notice the slightly eerie atmosphere in the air, picked up the sugar bowl, and poured sugar into Zheng Qing’s coffee, ”Let me help you.”

Zheng Qing wore a rigid smile on his face, nodded without making a sound, only picked up the spoon, and began to stir silently. He stirred round and round.

At this moment, Jiang Yu also seemed in no hurry to leave.

She sat serenely in her seat, holding her coffee cup, and smiled towards Elena, ”I’ll have some sugar too.”

Elena’s arm, holding the sugar jar, paused mid-air for a few fleeting seconds before ultimately shifting towards Jiang Yu’s coffee cup.

”What a simple matter,” she muttered softly. Powdered sugar cascaded down from the jar.

Jiang Yu stirred her coffee, now sweetened with sugar, and sipped it in small tastes.

”Has Xiao Xiao recently asked you for advice on buying a gift?” Jiang Yu suddenly asked Zheng Qing an off-the-wall question, still holding her coffee cup.

The young public expense student looked perplexed, ”What gift?”

”In the last history class, Mister Sima didn’t call on him to answer any questions,” Elena reminded from the side.

Not being called upon was a good thing, wasn’t it? What did that have to do with gifts?

Zheng Qing was completely lost about what the two witches were talking about.

”Um, he hasn’t asked me,” Zheng Qing resolved not to show weakness in front of the two witches, so he answered vaguely, following their context, and then added, ”The Hunting team has been a bit tied up with tasks recently, and he’s been quite busy.”

The two witches exchanged a look, and their eyes clearly conveyed a hint of pity.

Zheng Qing noted this down, deciding to mention it to Xiao Xiao when he got back to see if he would make any connection to it.

”Speaking of which, I heard from Fifi that your Hunting team has been helping her look for her pet snake, how’s that going?” Jiang Yu switched to a somewhat simpler subject.

”We haven’t found any clues.” Zheng Qing put down his coffee cup and rubbed the corner of his eyebrow, replying with some distress, ”There are so many formal Hunting teams and the School Works Committee that haven’t managed to do it... we’re just helping out to do our best, merely as a gesture.”

”Didn’t you help her find the snake molt?” Elena softly interjected. She actually felt a twinge of regret—if she had known earlier that the pet snake would shed its Painted Skin and slither away in the middle of school, she would have reported it long ago.

Zheng Qing caught a glimpse of Jiang Yu’s expression stiffen for a second from the corner of his eye.

”That’s because two cats helped out,” he decided to probe a little, turning his head to Jiang Yu, ”I don’t know if you’ve seen them at school, a Black Cat, and a little white kitten... that kitten is tiny, maybe not even three months old yet. Creamy white. I remember you like cats.”

After he finished the last sentence, he regretted it.

On one hand, he was foolishly talking about another girl’s interests in front of his girlfriend; on the other hand, the murder of the little white kitten, in a way, had always been a taboo subject for Jiang Yu.

Fortunately, Elena and Jiang Yu seemed not to have taken any issue with his response.

”I don’t keep cats anymore.” Jiang Yu replied dryly, cheeks flushing slightly as if remembering something.

”A black cat? What kind of black cat?” Elena also raised her own question at the same time. Clearly, she was very interested in the black cat Zheng Qing mentioned.

”A completely black cat, seems like its paws are white. Beautiful eyes. Looks quite majestic,” Zheng Qing recalled the image in his mind, describing it.

”You’re very observant,” Jiang Yu said to the warlock with a teasing, half-smiling look.

Zheng Qing felt his hand holding the coffee cup was very steady.

”Um, I heard it from Xiao Xiao and the others,” he added steadily, ”I was in the dorm doing homework at the time, I didn’t go on the patrol with them.”
