High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1140: Chapter 202: Whose Gift?

Indeed, the witches sitting in the front row of the classroom, although whispering together in a huddle, did not seem to support Liu Fei Fei’s actions. Even Jiang Yu only occasionally looked back anxiously.

Zheng Qing leaned on his desk with one hand supporting his head, his gaze slowly sweeping over his classmates, observing their excited, angry, heartbroken, or gloomy expressions.

A hint of helpless smile hung on his lips as the unmistakable chatter of his companions reached his ears.

”... He just had the wrong conversation, at the wrong time, with the wrong person. Everyone knows what the ’Beta Town Post’ is like. Did we really expect it to say a few good words about Jiuyou Academy?” In regard to this comment, Zhang Ji Xin felt he was unbiased towards the ’Beta Town Post’.

”That’s not necessarily true,” Xin Fat Man replied: ”I still remember that last term, the ’Beta Town Post’ had a report praising the educational system of Jiuyou Academy for cultivating a large number of wizards with solid fundamentals...”

Zhang Ji Xin scoffed: ”If I remember correctly, the next day the paper praised Alpha Academy even more, stating they nurtured more aggressive talents, more creative individuals, rather than those who only recite spells, adhere strictly to the norms, and possess rigid thinking—a so-called ’Pre-Zombie Faction’.”

Upon hearing this, although facing away from his companions, Zheng Qing couldn’t help but roll his eyes.

It was clear which academy the so-called ’Pre-Zombie Faction wizards’ referred to.

Faced with such deeply rooted prejudice, Xin Fat Man indeed had no rebuttal.

”The ’Beta Town Post’ is a commercial paper, always sensationalizing to attract eyeballs. Unlike our campus newspaper, it lacks principles and a baseline.”

Xin Fat Man was quite proud when talking about this matter: ”I dare say, our reports are absolutely impartial and do not presume any stance...”

”I have reservations about that,” Zhang Ji Xin tilted his head, habitually arguing: ”There are no unbiased articles; at best, the difference lies in the degree of bias. I remember an editorial in the campus paper that mentioned the Moon Council coveting the Forbidden Curse, using phrases like ’a dog can’t change its habit of eating shit’...”

Indeed, that was excessive.

Zheng Qing frowned, suddenly interested in the report mentioned by Zhang Ji Xin. It was hard to imagine such an authoritative and formal newspaper using such vulgar slang in an editorial.

But he didn’t have a chance to ask Zhang Ji Xin about the specifics of that report.

Because Elena was coming towards him with a few books in her arms.

The Gypsy witch was dressed appropriately today, wearing a Jiuyou’s bright red robe—since the contradiction between the two academies intensified, every student had to be very cautious about their stance; the most noticeable change was more students in uniforms, as it was the simplest way to distinguish which academy you belonged to and to identify those trying to remain neutral between the two academies.

As she approached Zheng Qing’s desk, Elena folded her arms and listened smilingly to the warlocks’ discussion. Xin Fat Man also had good eyesight; seeing the witch’s figure, he quickly used the excuse of ’needing to proofread an article in the editorial office’ and swiftly made his escape.

In comparison, Xiao Xiao was much more polite.

”When we aren’t around, I’m bothering you to look after him a bit more,” Doctor Xiao, with a textbook in one hand and the other on Zheng Qing’s shoulder, pressed down and looked at Elena, smiling warmly, ”Don’t let him recklessly pull out the Law book... or spit at people from Alpha Academy.”

Zheng Qing immediately retaliated with a slap on Xiao Xiao’s body.

”Rest assured on that point, I absolutely won’t allow him to violate the slightest school rule,” Elena said with a ’pop’, dumping the books she was carrying onto Zheng Qing’s desk, startling the young scholarship student.

”What about him?” Seeing his companions leaving one by one, Zheng Qing felt uneasy and signaled with his eyes from another corner of the classroom, mouthed the word ’Nicholas’ silently.

”Let’s talk later. For now, as long as Fifi is watching and nothing goes wrong, it’s fine,” said Zhang Ji Xin as he followed the doctor out.

The classroom was getting emptier.

Elena flicked her long hair and sat sideways in the seat in front of Zheng Qing’s desk.

The warlock shifted uncomfortably in his seat.

”How about we sit at the coffee shop for a while?” he suggested tentatively, glancing at the somewhat dim light outside the window.

”Homework first,” the Gypsy witch opened her curse textbook and glared at him.

Zheng Qing chuckled dryly and quickly took out his ”Standard Spells,” starting to work on his homework.

Since it was Monday and they hadn’t left the classroom promptly after class, the chances were high that the spaces in the library or study room were already taken, so staying in the classroom to do homework became the best choice.

It was just Monday, and they had only had two classes, so there wasn’t much homework. The two of them finished most of it quite quickly.

Zheng Qing took out his line drawing and started his routine ruling, while Elena flipped through the ”Standard Talisman,” correcting her grammar and sentence structure mistakes.

The classroom became emptier and emptier, and even Nicholas quietly left with Liu Fei Fei’s company. In the end, only the young man and woman sitting in the corner were left.

A faint fragrance lingered at Zheng Qing’s nose, as if someone was tickling him with their hair, making him increasingly restless.

”Nicholas is really in a bad spot this time,” he sighed for the sake of conversation, his feather pen sliding steadily along the ruler, pulling out a long downward shadow line.

”With Fifi watching, it shouldn’t be too bad,” Elena was quite optimistic about it, ”Comparatively, I think you’re in a worse situation... At least, he isn’t facing school probation like you are.”

A smile unwittingly curled up at the corners of Zheng Qing’s mouth.

”That incident was really an accident, I didn’t expect Sepulano to be that weak,” the warlock said modestly.

”No, it’s not that Sepulano is weak, it’s that you’re very strong,” Elena looked up at him with sparkling eyes, full of curiosity in her tone, ”Is your charm gun really like what the ’Beta Town Post’ said, crafted by some great alchemist?”

Zheng Qing couldn’t help but roll his eyes: ”You believe the Post?”

He immediately realized that his tone was a bit inappropriate and quickly corrected himself: ”But it’s more or less the same. It’s not that the charm gun is special, but the Fu Bullets I use are a bit... The charm gun was a birthday gift from a friend, just an ordinary, standard charm gun.”

Elena nodded in understanding.

In the end, the witch casually asked, ”By the way, those two charm guns from before, who gave them as a birthday gift?”
