High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1101: Chapter 163: Omen of Heavy Yin

Zheng Qing named Fei Rui primarily in consideration of his own feelings. At the time, he had just finished the college entrance examination, enjoying a sense of freedom in both time and spirit. To materialize this feeling of freedom, he named the hamster that had lived in his home for over a decade ’Fei Rui’.

However, he did not know that once he gave Fei Rui a name synonymous with freedom, the hamster became truly free.

This was a profound magic, and also a weighty contract.

What does a free hamster do? A hundred hamsters may have a hundred different aspirations. For Fei Rui, having escaped the cage that had restrained him for so long and rediscovering himself, what he wanted most was to return to an island hidden deep within the ocean, back to the Silent Forest.

In his free time, he would enjoy a drink with a few old friends or, when bored, hide in the shadows to tease the naive young wizards at school. Come on, revel in life; after all, there’s plenty of time left.

However, as he resumed his old life, the lengthy and tedious memories buried deep in his soul began to resurface. This was not the freedom he sought. Had he lived for these sips of wine and bits of fun, he might not have been captured and spent over a decade as a door-watching mouse.

On the other hand, as the young wizard he had guarded for over a decade stepped onto the campus, more and more sediments settled at the bottom of the lake began to stir, rising to the surface. Like hyenas, greedy yet timid, they lingered outside the school gates, emitting deep growls from their throats and a dim red glint in their eyes.

”Surely I am not worse than a dog,” Fei Rui mused, perched atop White Weasel’s head.

He felt that instead of sitting on the shore, watching the spectacular surge of tides crash against the embankment, it was better to step on a skateboard and wrestle with the waves.

Thus, within less than a week of returning to the Silent Forest, Fei Rui reestablished contact with his old friends, engaged with the Dark Council that was gaining momentum in the wizard world, and heard some news that made his eyes glow red.

”Xuanhuang Fruit,” the Rat Immortal once sighed to Fei Rui in private, ”is Great Medicine to demons and equally potent for wizards. If we had such treasures from heaven and earth when we were advancing our territories, we might not have ended up in this state... A deer-headed mouse-brained, a term for being despicable. No matter how many boys you command, you’re still just one of the mice.”

”Are Xuanhuang Fruits effective for wizards?” Fei Rui reacted with surprise to the Rat Immortal’s words. ”Aren’t those things used by demons for advancement? They’re poison to wizards.”

Squinting his eyes and lounging in a broad chair, the Rat Immortal’s whiskers on his nostrils twitched as his voice trembled, ”Hey, a wizard? You and I, do we still count as true wizards? What are demons? Others don’t know, and you don’t know? Those beings that purify their bloodline by devouring wizards...”

”Shut up! You want to die, but I’ve just come out, and I want to live a few more days!” Although Fei Rui angrily interrupted the Rat Immortal’s diatribe, he secretly contemplated his insinuations.

The Rat Immortal’s words were dangerous but not without reason. Given this, it was understandable why the school valued this year’s batch of forthcoming Xuanhuang Fruits so highly. As a hamster with ideals, ambition, and a wizard’s soul, desiring such a fruit was within reason.

However, earnestly following the process and submitting an application for Xuanhuang Fruit to the First University was definitely going to be fruitless.

With so many heavyweights in the school, many characters in situations similar to his were probably banking on this once-in-several-centuries opportunity; even those without these troubles have the laboratories eyeing greedily.

The straight and narrow was no longer an option; it never would be in this lifetime. Ever since turning into a mouse, he could only, like other mice, delve into dark holes and follow the Rat Road, seizing the chances in order to progress further on the wizard’s path.

Fei Rui’s first hole after returning to the Silent Forest was establishing contact with the Dark Council.

He dared not directly associate with demons, and the school was unwilling to give him a chance. Only from an organization like the Dark Council, which was just emerging and in need of accomplishments and power, could he possibly obtain spoils that matched his abilities.

Of course, putting all your eggs in one basket is not wise.

So, Fei Rui colluded quietly with Rat Immortal and other old friends, and dug out a second hole.

To completely unblock this second hole, they needed a catalyst.

Bu Xiang told them that this catalyst would appear ’when heavy yin occurs’.

Black is the heaviest color, cats belong to yin, representing heavy yin; two witches represent double yin, which is also ’heavy yin’; the land of the Silent Forest, ”silent” is heavy, and ”mute” belongs to yin, also an omen of heavy yin.

The moment Fei Rui laid eyes on Korma’s exploration team, the aforementioned thoughts flashed through its mind.

Therefore, its original intention of just cooperating with Rat Immortal’s request to play the role of a mission NPC was shelved deep within its plans. It had new demands for the exploration team before it.

...

”You seem somewhat familiar to me.”

This was the first sentence Fei Rui said after seeing the Black Cat.

The sentence was meaningful, but to others, it sounded like a clumsy greeting.

The Black Cat scowled, showing little courtesy to the hamster, and concerned that more words might lead to a slip, simply responded with a cat’s identity, meowing back, ”Many cats have tried to get close to me... This is the first time for a mouse.”

”I am not a mouse!” Fei Rui theatrically jumped up and down, roaring, ”Where did this uncouth kitten come from, showing such rudeness?!”

The hamster, the size of a fist, hopping about on the White Weasel’s head, gave an inexplicable sense of hilarity.

Korma hastily played peacemaker between her friend and her senior.

”Senior, you aren’t one to sweat the small stuff, I’ve heard from the Immortal many times,” Korma, as the vice-president of the student council, was fairly adept at steering conversations, and she easily turned the topic back to her desired direction, ”The Immortal told me you’re intimately familiar with this forest, and consulting you would surely be the right choice if we needed to know anything.”

But contrary to her expectations,

Fei Rui didn’t proceed as most seniors who enjoyed being cryptic did, speaking ambiguously at length and then assigning the young wizards many tedious tasks until they completed them, only to finally reveal a simple answer.

Instead, the next sentence from the hamster sitting atop the White Weasel nearly made the Black Cat lose its balance, almost falling from the tree.

”You’re looking for that newly-born little Secret Realm, aren’t you? I’m familiar with that place, I know how to get there.”

Fei Rui pinched the round ears of the White Weasel, answering nonchalantly.

The voice wasn’t loud, yet it struck like a thunderclap, leaving the young wizards standing there speechless for a long moment.
