High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1148: Chapter 210: Harassment and the Amulet

Su Ya lay sprawled on the couch, snoring softly with each gentle breath.

She had been up working since six in the morning, and now after seven or eight hours, except for breakfast and lunch, there was hardly any time to rest. Especially today, as the miss had met with four or five groups of visitors, making Su Ya, who was acting temporarily as a maid, all the more exhausted.

Thus, after hastily devouring two apples for lunch, she took the opportunity of the empty living room to dive head-first into the soft dragon skin sofa, intending to nap for a brief moment.

After all, Su Man, the head housemaid, was out on official business, the nannies were praying in the quiet room, and the miss was also out. So it wouldn’t matter if she had a little sleep, no big deal.

With that thought in mind, the little fox lady quickly fell into a deep slumber.

In her dream, she wore a snow-white dress and ran around barefoot on the soft grass, playing hide and seek with an equally white little fox that was so silly it only ever hid its head, leaving its large tail exposed making it easy for Su Ya to find every time.

The miss sat on a swing at the edge of the grass, holding a book and swaying back and forth as she read.

Su Man, the head housemaid, had a stack of books hanging over her left shoulder, a large teapot on the right, a full tea set strapped to her chest, and a big fruit platter balanced on her head, overwhelmed to the point of being unable to even call out for help.

This made Su Ya laugh even more merrily.

”It’s my turn!”

The sleeping Su Ya smacked her lips in satisfaction, shifted to an even more comfortable position, nearly dislodging the hairnet on her head onto the floor, with two fluffy little ears poking out from behind it, lazily flicking every now and then to indicate their owner was still alive.

A pestering bug sneaked into the living room from the window, slinking around before quietly approaching the little fox lady.

This was a type of insect that Wizards found extremely annoying, roughly equivalent in status to mosquitoes in the Mortal World. But compared to mosquitoes, these bugs not only sucked blood but also burrowed into a Wizard’s ears to quietly suckle on their delightful dreams. The happier the dream, the more attractive it was to these little insects.

What’s worse, the bugs had a magical ability to become invisible. When Wizards were lucid dreaming, they could catch glimpses of these creatures; when they were groggy, they could even hear them; but when the Wizards woke up, they could never find where the bugs were hiding.

Even using Divination Magic or some more sophisticated Alchemy Instruments was fruitless.

For a long time, Traditional Wizard theory considered these bugs as part of the nightmare phenomena, believing they did not exist and were merely products of the Wizard’s imagination. Of course, with the development of dimensional theory, Modern Wizards have recognized that these pests belong to a ’phantom dimension’ life form, existing in a very peculiar state.

After approaching the little fox lady, the bug buzzed and circled around her head over and over, either unable to find her ears or hesitating whether to burrow in and enjoy the delectable feast.

In her dream, Su Ya’s brows slowly furrowed.

Her bushy tail silently wriggled out from under her dress, moving like a cautious little snake.

”Smack!”

The tip of her tail slapped against the leather sofa, making a dull sound. The buzzing of the bug abruptly ceased. This was the go-to method to deal with these pests, as a little noise from the Wizards would make them behave for quite a while.

The furrow in Su Ya’s brow gradually smoothed out once more.

But in less than five minutes, the infuriating buzz of the bug began to hover around her ears again. A trace of killing intent flashed across the little fox lady’s face. Both ears shot up in alarm, and the tip of her tail once again slipped out from her skirt.

”Smack!”

With a crisp slap, the bug’s figure vanished completely from the little fox lady’s ear.

Su Ya’s face showed a hint of struggle and hesitation, even in her sleep, because she thought she had just heard the annoying sound of a bug and was about to slap it dead, but then it was killed by another sound.

But she was still sleeping, and there was no one else in the living room, so who could have killed the bug for her?

At this thought, a shiver ran down the little fox lady’s spine, and she rolled off the sofa in a bundle, stood up groggily, grabbed a rag from the sofa, and started wiping it down.

As she wiped, she mumbled to herself:

”Gosh, there’s so much dirt in the crevices of the sofa... it’s almost growing mushrooms, my eyes are getting sore looking at it.”

A helpless chuckle came from nearby.

It was as if Su Ya only then realized someone was in the house, and she turned around with surprise, her eyes bright and shining as she asked, ”Eh? Miss, when did you get back... I was just busy working, I didn’t notice...”

Su Shijun rolled her eyes extravagantly.

”Are you working in your dreams? Can you straighten your hairnet before you speak!”

On Su Ya’s face was no sign of embarrassment, but rather a serious reply: ”I’m good at working both in and out of dreams.”

Despite her words, she still dutifully adjusted her hairnet on her head, tucked her little ears back under it, and curled her tail to prevent it from hanging out of her skirt.

While she did this, the little fox lady cautiously looked around to confirm that Su Man, the head housemaid, or the nannies hadn’t followed the young lady home.

This made her breathe a big sigh of relief.

Su Shijun also gave up on continuing the argument with the little housemaid.

”If you’re bored at home, run an errand for me,” she said, pulling out a neat jade talisman from her pocket and placing it in the little fox lady’s hand: ”Take a stroll around the school and hand it over to Zheng Qing.”

The rag in Su Ya’s hand disappeared in the blink of an eye.

She wiped her hands behind her skirt, took the jade talisman from the young lady, and carefully examined it a few times up close.

The jade talisman was small, three fingers wide, and about an inch long, resembling more of a jade plaque. On it were densely engraved runes the size of rice grains, intersecting arrays of lines, and a few hidden spell formulas within the depths of the talisman, shimmering with golden light.

It looked extremely precious.

”For that rude guy? Why!” the little fox lady fondled the smooth jade talisman, reluctant to part with it.

”His charm gun was confiscated by the school, and lately, things haven’t been very stable inside and out,” explained Su Shijun vaguely, and then she changed the subject, landing it on Poseidon: ”Without something nice, if someone beats him up when he’s out with Poseidon, wouldn’t Poseidon be wronged!”

For once, the little fox lady was shrewd.

”Then I can deliver this jade talisman directly to Poseidon!” she lifted her hand, eagerly suggesting: ”I could weave a pretty little red string and help attach it around Poseidon’s neck...”

”Give it to whomever I told you to, no more nonsense!”

”Oh.”
