High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1131: Chapter 193 School Probation

On the surface, the argument concerned the question of right and wrong between two students in an accident, but in reality, it was a contest of superiority between two academies, something Professor Yao understood very well.

Professor Yao knew of the friction between Jiuyou Academy and Alpha Academy, he was not deaf.

As for whose fault it was between Zheng Qing and Sepulano, whether it was excessive defense, or a violation of school regulations, Professor Yao also knew, he was not blind.

Originally, he did not intend to make this matter widely known throughout the school, nor did he want to lift the lid on internal conflicts within the school at the critical moment when the Xuanhuang Wood was flowering and fruiting, stirring the situation into even greater chaos.

But yesterday, when chatting with the Yellow Flowered Cat, its words, ’That’s your school’s own business, handle it how you see fit,’ suddenly reminded Dean Yao.

Indeed, whether it’s Zheng Qing or Sepulano, the Fishman Tribe or the Horseman Tribe, or Jiuyou and Alpha, these matters were all First University’s business, and their conflicts were constantly affecting the stability of First University. Although it hadn’t reached the point of ”in order to repel the foreign enemies, one must resolve internal strife,” if these conflicts could not be resolved before the possible onslaught of demons, the future situation might become much worse.

Professor Yi had warned more than once at the joint professor meetings, that this demon attack was exceptionally dangerous for First University. That’s why the school had spared no expense in recalling numerous hunting teams from the New World as reinforcements.

Yet, even after recalling hundreds of hunting teams, Professor Yi’s divination results still showed no change, causing worry to arise in many people’s hearts. It wasn’t until last night, after hearing the Yellow Flowered Cat’s subtle reminder, that Professor Yao suddenly realized that perhaps the greatest risk in the upcoming battle between wizards and demons might come from within the school.

Just as a diviner strictly avoids divining their own fortune, diviners from First University found it difficult to fully grasp the school’s future. Usually, First University simply overpowered all opposition with its formidable strength.

Issues like the rift between Jiuyou and Alpha, the disturbances from the Fishman Tribe, and such were small matters that would cause the students to make a fuss every year or two. The professors were used to it and would just wait for the students to tire before cleaning up.

But what if the disturbances in the school this year were not initiated by the students? What if behind these disturbances there were deeper forces at play? Even further, what if last year’s silent resurgence was also a preemptive move by them?

Thinking about the endless and indistinct Blackhands within the school, Professor Yao’s gaze became even more inscrutable.

Prevent problems before they arise.

These four words echoed in his mind—just right, with this opportunity, while the school still had the strength to deal with these little rascals, it was time to ignite the powder keg and let all the troublemakers jump out.

Then pick out one rabbit that hops the most, hold it by the ear, skin it, and warn those troublemakers.

As for the reason to skin the rabbit, did First University need a reason to manage its own internal affairs? If one really had to be given, then say that the rabbit caught a cold and needed to be isolated for treatment.

When Professor Yao pulled his thoughts back to the present, the direction of the meeting discussion had already skewed off to who knows where, with every rabbit present speaking eagerly and passionately.

”...Even if he is a scholarship student of the school?”

”Both of them are scholarship students! And what of it? It’s not as if there haven’t been scholarship students expelled from First University before!”

”He has received the Merlin Medal! That’s the whole school’s honor... not to mention, this year’s ’Magic Wand’ listed him under the Great Arcana ’World.’ Do any of you have such a title?”

”Is the evaluation of ’Magic Wand’ more important than the safety of the school’s students? Have you all forgotten Duzem from twenty years ago? Was Alpha Academy able to handle things back then that Jiuyou Academy can’t?”

Upon hearing such a retort, the momentum of Jiuyou Academy’s side was momentarily suppressed.

Who was Duzem? Many of the young wizards present were not familiar with this name, but seeing the rightness in the questioner’s demeanor, and the unpleasant expression on the faces of their elder wizards, no one was going to pipe up with any foolish words at this time.

Many had already taken it for granted that this must involve some scandal within the school. Unfortunately, there were no journalists from Beta Town Post or First University Campus Newspaper present, so acquiring such a large scoop felt like having untold riches at night.

Then, the elder wizard from Danghag proposed a thorny issue: ”Representing the High Court at this meeting, people from the ’Preventative Office for First University Student Crimes’ and the ’Management Office for Dangerous Talismans’ have both sent me a document.”

”During last year’s winter hunt, a student faced investigation from our court for misuse of explosion charms, and the situation could lead to an in-school prosecution due to the severity... At that time, the student was requested by the school to go to Danghag to explain the matter.”

”What happened to that afterwards? Why did it vanish without a trace?”

The table before the meeting was quiet.

Alpha Academy’s side was waiting for the opponent to answer the question, while Jiuyou’s representatives were somewhat anxious. On the one hand, not all representatives from Jiuyou were aware of the incident, so they had no answer to give; on the other hand, matters involving the Wizard Court and the First University were always troublesome.

Because the Wizard Court is independent of the Three Major Organizations of the Wizards (Wizard Council, Moon Council, and the First University), they adhere to the Wizard’s Code and often do not give much face to the First University, let alone to the big wizards or major powers, in order to uphold the glory of ”The Code”.

Therefore, after the elder wizard from Danghag raised the question, there was a moment of silence in the room.

Old Yao coughed softly, drawing everyone’s attention:

”Ahem, I am aware of this matter.”

Many faces showed an interested expression.

As the Dean of Jiuyou Academy and the rotating chairman of the joint meeting of professors at the First University, who took on the daily affairs of the school when the Nameless principal and the two vice-principals were busy, Professor Yao was the heaviest hitter amongst the wizards present.

That’s also why he could not speak casually.

Speaking prematurely before the facts were clear was a display of instability; siding with Zheng Qing would be a clear use of power for personal gain, whereas siding with Mike Gold Cypress Plano might lead to accusations of seeking personal glory.

So, when to speak and what to say was a real test of Professor Yao’s skill.

”Regarding the personal safety of a student, I can only tell you all that after last year’s winter hunt incident, there was ample communication between the high levels of the school and the court. Under mutual understanding, some doubts were resolved... including the issue you just mentioned.”

Having said this, Old Yao nodded amiably at the elder wizard from Danghag.

The elder wizard silently nodded back, accepting the answer.

”As for the disciplinary conclusions for the two students, my opinion is that Mike Gold Cypress Plano receives a school warning; Zheng Qing is put under school probation for three months and his use of the Charm Gun is to be regulated.”

At this point, Old Yao took out his pocket watch and glanced at it, nodding, ”Today is April 12, three months, which means the school probation will last until the end of this term... Hmm, does anyone have any objections? If not, this will be our preliminary plan.”

The wizards seated on both sides of the table looked at each other.

The representatives from Jiuyou Academy still felt that the measures against Sepulano were too lenient, but since it was their own Dean who made the statement, everyone had no choice but to remain silent.

The representatives from Alpha Academy were somewhat uncertain; on one hand, they had not truly wished to expel Zheng Qing from the school, especially since the incident was an attempt that did not actually cause any irreparable damage; on the other hand, the terms given by Old Yao were very generous.

Whether it was the school probation or the regulation of the Charm Gun, both were very severe disciplinary actions.

The next step after school probation was expulsion, and if the student committed another major mistake during the probation period, there was a high likelihood of being expelled. Considering someone’s current track record of breaking school rules, the probability was quite high that he would be expelled.

The elder wizard from Danghag was the first to express his opinion: ”Danghag has no objections.”

”Seconded!”

”Seconded.”

...

On both sides of the conference table, representatives began to raise their hands to vote.

Old Yao, biting on his pipe, blowing smoke, watched the harmonious scene with a smile.
