High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1139: Chapter 201: Chaos After Class

A wild bird entering a room isn’t a complete sentence; its complete expression is ”When a wild bird enters the room, the master must leave,” meaning that when a wild bird flies into a house, the homeowner is forced to leave.

Originally, this was an unstandardized ancient spell with the effects of expulsion and cursing. It is rarely used by wizards now due to significant backlash to the user.

However, Zheng Qing, recalling that sentence written in red on the edge of the newspaper, always felt it contained some deeper meaning.

”Doctor, how should this sentence be understood?” The young cost student wrote down the sentence in a notebook and pushed it in front of Xiao Xiao. In this regard, he always had a sense of self-awareness, ”That just now, on the edge of the newspaper, someone had written it.”

Xiao Xiao glanced at Zheng Qing’s sloppy handwriting.

”An idle act.” The doctor’s lips twisted slightly, his face showing a hint of mocking smile as he explained softly, ”Considering the context, it is not hard to understand from the context; the person who wrote this sentence meant that a wild bird had flown into Jiuyou Academy, and the master of the academy had no choice but to leave. I believe with your intelligence, you could guess who that wild bird is.”

”In a general sense, this wild bird refers to the Fufu bird, a magical bird species symbolizing misfortune and treachery.”

”But from a literal perspective, we can also vaguely see meanings like ’wild breed’ and ’hybrid’... If I remember correctly, Nicolas is a half-werewolf. It’s a pretty vicious metaphor.”

Zheng Qing furrowed his brow, finding it difficult to accept.

”Was this written by someone from our academy?” He felt as if someone had harshly twisted somewhere deep inside him. In his memory, Jiuyou Academy had always been a united and friendly place. It was hard to imagine someone within the academy speaking so cruelly about their classmate. It wouldn’t have been as hard to accept if someone from Alpha Academy had said these words.

Xiao Xiao glanced at the cost student and corrected him, ”To be precise, it should be said that it was written by one of our classmates.”

Zheng Qing suddenly fell silent.

He didn’t ask who in the class had written it, nor did he want to know. He just felt a bit weary.

This silence lasted throughout the entire Talisman class until Teacher Zhang left the classroom, and he was still half-immersed in his own world, his mind in chaos as a crowd of little figures waved their fists and clubs, arguing furiously.

One said, human nature is fundamentally evil, unity and friendship are just facades; another shouted, everyone is just blinded, this is Alpha’s trick; while a neutral party stood on the side, incessantly chattering, urging everyone to calm down.

When Zheng Qing finally snapped out of his thoughts, more than ten minutes had elapsed since the end of the class, and the classroom was chaotic, with hardly a few people having left. The students were grouped into several clusters, making noise incessantly.

Some deeply despised the source of all recent turbulence in the academy:

”My father always said, those Fishmen are no good... Why does the school believe they are a civilized magical race? It’s the biggest desecration of the word ’civilization’!”

”Exactly! Those stinky Fishmen... nobody likes them! Why has it taken so long for people to stir things up around them, it’s ridiculous!”

”Maybe in their own noses, the smell on them doesn’t stink at all, rather it’s ’fragrant’.”

”Heh... do Fishmen even have noses?”

Others pointed the finger directly at Alpha Academy, analyzing from a high level of inter-academy competition the fluctuating causes of these disturbances.

Indeed, as the Beta Town Post stated, students of Jiuyou Academy now privately agree that Alpha Academy targets Jiuyou not just because of conflicting educational philosophies, but also because of competition for academy points.

Each year, based on factors like student performance, academic achievements, and magic research results, the four academies receive varying points. In previous years, Alpha Academy always led the race, far ahead of the other three. However, in recent years, as Jiuyou Academy had gradually risen to power, Alpha’s leading position on the points board had come under increasing threat.

Even by this year, many wizard organizations in the wizard world had predicted that in the 2008-2009 academic year, Jiuyou Academy’s total score would surpass Alpha Academy for the first time.

”A higher academy score means more funding for the school and more favorable policies from the Mage Alliance... When the total amount of funding is fixed, if you get a little more, the other academies get a little less.”

”Before the scores of Jiuyou Academy rose, Alpha didn’t have so much sense of justice either. They used to promote unity and cooperation among the four academies to create a better First University.”

”After all, interests dictate it as well.”

Some students, as they argued, became heated:

”...No one is a saint, how can those Alpha guys dare to stand on the moral high ground?”

”Nonsense. Are you saying Jiuyou isn’t a saint either?”

”I won’t stoop to arguing with a fool like you!”

”Come on, pull out your Law book, let me see the moves of you, the smart one...”

But no matter which group was quarreling, they all carefully avoided the two corners of the classroom, one where Zheng Qing was in the back left corner, and the other where Nicolas was in the back right corner.

Avoiding Zheng Qing was because after his conflict with Sepulano, he had been unfairly treated by the school. Now almost all the students of Jiuyou Academy saw him as some sort of tragic figure, assuming he needed a quiet corner to lick his wounds.

As for this result, Zheng Qing heartily agreed, and he too very much wanted a quiet environment.

Avoiding Nicolas was because everyone simply didn’t want to deal with him anymore.

That terrible interview record had enflamed every student of Jiuyou Academy who read it. The fact that they didn’t directly use vicious spells on Nicolas was already a very restrained act.

This restraint stemmed partly from the students’ reverence for the rules and regulations of First University, and partly from the protection by Liu Fei Fei towards Nicolas.

As a scholarship student and the top freshman of Jiuyou Academy, Liu Fei Fei may have had a somewhat weak temperament ordinarily, but at critical moments, she showed a sort of mother-hen-like toughness.

After class, as soon as the teacher left the classroom, Liu Fei Fei dashed to the back row and bravely stood next to Nicolas’ desk, glaring at every student who tried to approach the corner, using her authority as a scholarship student to prevent others in the class from hurling abuse at him.

She could protect Nicolas from verbal harm, but she could not prevent others from ignoring him.

Nicolas used to be invisible because he closed off his heart; now he was transparent again because he was isolated by his classmates.

Zheng Qing intended to help Nicolas break this isolation—at least, he could go over and share a joke with Nicolas, slightly easing the atmosphere of isolation in the class.

But Xiao Xiao held him back.

”It’s not the time yet,” the Doctor adjusted his glasses, his lips moving slightly, ”You have a lot of trouble on you right now... wait a bit longer, wait until there are fewer people around.”

”Have you not noticed? Those friends of Liu Fei Fei sitting in the front row of the classroom aren’t supporting their companion either,” he added.
