High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 893: Chapter 241 Righteous Body

”We indeed fell into the other party’s trap,”

”Having over a dozen teaching assistants together, and being near the school, the Assistant Team didn’t fully follow the ’VIP protection’ plan during the transfer and wasted too much time.”

”Fortunately, our opponents weren’t very experienced either. They neglected the influence of the school’s Protection Array on this ’sandbox,’ giving us enough buffer time—this can’t really be blamed on them for being unprofessional, as very few powers would dare to pull such stunts right under the nose of First University, accidents are bound to happen.”

”In fact, seconds after the other side cast ’Sharing Sweet Dreams with You,’ we had already woken up,”

”It’s just that the other side kept their distance, and we wanted to catch them by surprise, so, following Mr. Yu’s request, we temporarily lay on the ground pretending to be asleep...”

Thomas’s clear yet reserved explanation resonated beside Zheng Qing’s ear,

The young state-funded student blankly watched the members of the Assistant Team, who were originally ’asleep,’ huddle together in pairs and trios, discussing something in low yet intense voices, and occasionally casting various colored spells into the air, his mind in a mess.

In the entire snowy area, the only ones still deep in sleep were Xiao Xiao and those three hunters from the Absolution Hunting Team—which, in some sense, provided Zheng Qing a bit of solace.

Then he suddenly realized something.

”They...” The young state-funded student turned around with a start, looking towards the four uninvited guests not far away.

Just a moment ago, he had been ready to follow the teaching assistants into the dire battle that was about to unfold.

But contrary to his expectations, neither the ’gods’ nor the beautiful serpent, nor the hunchbacked dwarf showed any intention of attacking as they stood silently on the treetops.

Even Bull Head, leaning against the tree, merely exhaled thick white breaths from his nostrils now and then, occasionally lowering his head to rub his horns against the tree trunk. It gave off a sense of ’regardless of how you jump around, I remain unshaken.’

This further confused the young state-funded student.

”I’m completely confused,” he honestly sighed and turned back to look at Thomas. However, during this process, he didn’t put the Colt Python back into the grey cloth bag; on the contrary, he took the opportunity to swap the Binding Curse Bullets in the original magazine for Anti-evil charms and Thunder Curse Bullets.

”Normal, a very normal reaction,” Thomas said approvingly, looking at the young hunter’s actions, comforting him with a pat on the shoulder: ”I would be confused too if nobody explained it to me.”

”I still don’t understand,” Zheng Qing glanced at the silent uninvited guests in the distance, then at the busy teaching assistants on the spot, furrowing his brow, ”Why aren’t they attacking? Why don’t you attack them? And how did you wake up?”

In his previous explanation, Thomas had been vague about how the teaching assistants had awakened.

”Um, mainly because we were lucky... you know, internal reasons, external reasons, add them up, we were quite fortunate,” faced with Zheng Qing’s second round of inquiries, Thomas still did not provide a direct explanation, dodging the question ambiguously.

”So, you’re saying that it was just good luck that you woke up, right?” After listening to Thomas’s explanation, Zheng Qing summarized and raised his own question, ”Then, why wasn’t I put to sleep by that spell?”

Upon hearing this, Thomas exchanged a cautious glance with Zhang Yu beside him.

After pondering for a moment, he vaguely replied, ”It might be because you carry some sort of innate anti-evil magic artifact, or maybe it’s because another, more powerful spell on you was effective, interrupting the sleep spell... Of course, the most likely possibility is that our guests are so skilled that even when casting group magic, they can accurately discern every wizard present and skip over the ’targets’.”

”Pretty convincing nonsense,” Zheng Qing muttered.

Thomas’s face fell at this comment.

But he still patiently explained the rest of Zheng Qing’s questions, ”As to why we don’t attack them... after all, this is their ’home field’. Being able to maintain a degree of peace, giving us more time to prepare, is naturally the best approach.”

”What’s more important is that those guys are using ’Righteous Bodies,’ and even if we exchange at four to one, we would be at a loss,” Zhang Yu added from the side. ”So, it is better not to fight if we can avoid it.”

”Righteous Body?” Zheng Qing heard a new term.

”It means an avatar,” Thomas seemed thrilled that Zheng Qing was focusing on this term and he eagerly explained: ”You can think of it as a wizard remotely controlling a substitute body, which has no connection to the original, yet can do many dirty deeds on their behalf... A few years ago, many Black Wizards exposed by the Trident Sword liked to use this method. It helps Black Wizards safely conceal themselves. It’s just that the avatar requires a very skilled Diviner to cleanse and refine its karma, and few Black Wizards can afford it... although it is very useful.”

”But no matter how rare, this shell is made of magic, essentially just a pile of magic materials and magic circuits combined. It definitely can’t compare to the true value of a wizard. That’s what Mr. Yu meant by saying that exchanging four for one would still be a loss for us.”

”Does that mean they’re malfunctioning right now?” a lightbulb went off in Zheng Qing’s mind, and he immediately understood the strange behavior of the unwelcome guests.

Ever since releasing the four spells that relit this world and sent the wizards of the Assistant Team into ’sleep,’ those four unwelcome guests had been acting very oddly. Their behavior and speech were extremely illogical.

”Ah, very astute,” Thomas nodded in approval, then looked back at the few uninvited guests, ”Overall, those guys are quite cautious... with both Righteous Bodies and a sandbox, they’ve reduced the risk of exposure to the lowest.”

”But they still underestimated the power of the school’s Protection Array.”

”Creating a sandbox on Buji Island is more challenging than one might imagine. Without any surprises, the mysterious person behind these uninvited guests is trying hard to avoid the school’s Protection Array’s ’expulsion’ and can’t afford to pay attention to these few ’Righteous Bodies,’ inevitably.”

”I bet the school’s Protection Array has already triggered the red alert... Perhaps the vice-chancellor and Dean Yao are already on their way back to the school.”

”That is to say, Dean Yao and the other school deans aren’t on campus right now?” Zheng Qing seemed to finally understand why someone would be so audacious, murmuring to himself.

Thomas heard this, paused, blinked, turned his head away, pretending not to hear the young scholarship student’s question.

Zheng Qing raised an eyebrow but didn’t press his interviewer further on this issue.
