High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 865: Chapter 213 D&K have a new accountant

Professor Yao’s stern education had successfully curbed Zheng Qing’s increasingly indulgent heart.

As a result, from Sunday night until Thursday, the young state-funded student always carried a glum look on his face, not even the Christmas Eve revelry on Wednesday night could lift his spirits.

Of course, the reason for Zheng Qing’s terrible mood on Wednesday night might not have been solely due to Old Yao’s lecture a few days earlier—at the masquerade that evening, he, dressed as Count Dracula, was chased by several real vampires, ending with the young state-funded student being thrown into Lin Zhong Lake.

Even Xiao Xiao thought that Zheng Qing was absolutely asking for trouble.

Vampires have always been a powerful presence among the aristocrats of the Under the Moon, and even in the entire Wizard World, there are few forces that can match them. Those more powerful than them, such as the orthodox wizards, lack the unity of the vampires; those less powerful, like the werewolves and ghosts, would hardly dare to provoke a tiger.

It was Zheng Qing, who grew up in the Mortal World, who lacked sensitivity to such matters. He daringly dressed up as the Dracula from ”Four Hundred Years of Shock,” wearing a bright red robe with unusually long, stiff fingers and his hair styled like two round buns, then strutted around the campus.

The young state-funded student had no idea that aside from Sir Friedman and student Matthew, there was a large group of pure-blooded or mixed-blood vampire students at First University, most of whom could not tolerate a young wizard’s actions that bordered on desecrating their ancestors.

”It was just a joke!” Zheng Qing complained to a few classmates during the potion class on Thursday morning, ”they really dared to do that... If I didn’t have a little connection with the Fishman Tribe in the lake, I would have been dragged to the bottom of the lake to feed the Kappa!”

”It’s hard to say who was more excessive between you two.” Xin Fat Man, wearing a pair of large protective goggles, leaned his head over the crucible, peering through a light purple smoke to check the nature of the potion.

While looking and taking notes, he still had the energy to reply to the young state-funded student, ”After all, Lin Zhong Lake is right inside First University, there are always nearly a hundred incidents of students falling into the water accidentally every year, yet I haven’t heard of anyone really drowning... instead, several students have indeed drowned in the large public baths of the school’s washrooms.”

”That’s indeed ironic,” Zhang Ji Xin said, arms crossed, turning his head to look out the window at the vast white world, lazily expressing his opinion.

Today was Christmas, and by tradition, the department managing the climate had given everyone a world draped in silver.

The heavy snow began last night—just as the costume ball was nearing its end—continued all through the night, and did not stop until the morning light shone and the first group of students got up for morning exercise.

Just one night, and the entire campus was covered in thick snow. This added much joy to everyone’s route to classes in the morning—often, as someone was nicely passing a large tree, they would be bombarded by a series of snowballs shot from the tree hole, screaming ceaselessly.

Uh, right, Jiuyou Academy was still holding classes today.

Although Christmas is a statutory holiday in the Wizard World, the Mage Alliance did not mandate a holiday—Jiuyou Academy considers allowing students to wildly play for a whole day nearing the end of term irresponsible toward everyone.

Of course, this was just the approach of Jiuyou Academy alone.

For the other three colleges of First University, as well as most research institutes, Christmas was still a day worth commemorating and resting.

”No one paid attention to last night’s drowning incident, no one.” Xin Fat Man moved his head back from over the crucible, looked up at the young state-funded student, and split his face into a wicked smile, ”The Campus Newspaper didn’t even bother to publish a brief report... even though the people who fell were the famous recipients of the Merlin Medal and one state-funded student.”

Zheng Qing pretended not to hear Xin Fat Man’s mockery.

He turned his head and irritably said to Doctor Xiao, ”Excuse me, the powdered salamander needs to be added to the pot after the joint grass juice... Do you want us to score zero in today’s assessment?”

”I’m just experimenting,” Xiao Xiao waved nonchalantly. ”Wizards need to have the spirit of trying new things. Who knows, perhaps adding powdered salamander before the joint grass juice might concoct a new antidote.”

”You should choose a safer potion to try!” Zheng Qing roared softly. ”If I’m not mistaken, today’s potion is for treating lower limb disorders... I certainly do not want to be poisoned by some unknown gas from the pot and end up in the campus hospital!”

”Especially since today is Christmas.” Xin Fat Man moved slightly to the side, putting more distance between him and the crucible in front of Doctor Xiao, carefully avoiding the deep blue steam emerging from it.

Xiao Xiao also carefully put on a large face mask and then changed the subject, ”Oh, right, Fox Five sent me a Paper Crane this morning. He said the number of mice pulling the pumpkin carts is insufficient, and asked you to discuss with those guys below if they can assign some temporary employees.”

Fox Five is the professional accountant stationed at D&K by Greenhill Mansion.

Yes, stationed.

On Saturday, at the grand opening of the small shop, Su Daxu felt that Zheng Qing and the others’ management was terrible, so she assigned them a professional housekeeper to help manage the shop.

Of course, the excuse she used was to discuss with the Underground Rat Clan and have some dressed mice act as temporary employees to hurry the pumpkin carts for the school during Christmas. The Fox race housekeeper was the compensation provided by Greenhill Mansion, employed for half a year with the option for priority renewal after the term.”

In other people’s view, this was probably one of the benefits D&K gained from having an ’exclusive right’ with the Mouse Clan.

However, Zheng Qing knew this was not the case.

The deeper purpose of Su Shi Jun sending Fox Five was to prevent Duke Milton of the Moon Council or the Wolfman Prince from the Tabbot family from causing trouble in the store again—in Su Daxu’s eyes, these were troubles she had stirred up and should be resolved by her.

Her help came just in time. A few more days, and D&K would have had to shut down.

Because starting Monday, the young wizards from the Absolution Hunting Team realized that running a store while attending classes was not an easy task.

The simplest issue was the conflict between class schedules and store operating times.

If they could not employ a professional shop assistant, they would have to choose to open the shop during their spare time, and also had to waste a lot of time they could have spent studying in the library on managing the store.

This was extremely difficult.
