High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 856: 204 Chapter Praise of the Wandering Wizard

Wandering Bar has always been the most well-informed place outside First University, without a doubt.

As the owner of Wandering Bar, Wandering Wizard was naturally not some reclusive wizard — in the eyes of the young students on public expenses, this old man was rather slick and anyone who thought he was senile would definitely be at a huge loss.

So, for the Wandering Wizard’s perfunctory pleasantries, Zheng Qing just rolled his eyes and then put it out of his mind as he led the Elder Wizard into the shop.

As they walked, Zheng Qing half proudly and half complaining said, ”You arrived a bit late... the good stuff in the shop has all been taken. Especially those mice, although there are some left in the cages, they have actually all been reserved. At least until the winter break is over, we don’t have any more mice to sell in our shop.”

As the manager of the largest grey market on Buji Island, Wandering Wizard was naturally familiar with the ’extracurricular practice homework’ that the students of First University constantly complained about. Although Wandering Bar disdained to participate in such trivial business, it doesn’t mean that the brokers registered at Wandering Bar would overlook it.

After all, even a mosquito’s leg is still meat.

If the clients had needs, the owner would naturally try his best to satisfy them. Thus, having heard that Zheng Qing could procure a large quantity of live mice, Wandering Wizard had expressed more than once his intention to further collaborate with D&K. However, in order to maintain the business of the new store, after repeated discussions with his partners, Zheng Qing finally agreed with Wandering Wizard that Wandering Bar could take over all the unsold ’mouse goods’ from D&K, but if D&K did not have unsold stock, then Wandering Bar could still procure a quota of 50 mice per week from D&K.

This was a mutually protective, win-win strategy that benefited both sides.

”Such trivial matters you can just discuss with the bar folks... anyway, with the contract laid out there, there’s nothing we can’t discuss.” Wandering Wizard waved his hand, breezily dismissing the young funded student’s complaints.

This left Zheng Qing dumbfounded.

His previous words had only been a prelude, thinking he might be able to slightly reduce the number of mice from Wandering Bar’s 50. After all, trading with Rat Immortal was more profitable. However, Wandering Wizard’s retort, which combined dismissal and a counter, made it difficult for him to bring it up again.

Seeing the new guests, the Sprites originally cleaning up the shop managed to squeeze out three workers, carrying teapots and teacups, presenting hot towels to serve. Meanwhile, Poseidon, who had been frolicking around Li Meng, also scampered back, using nearby tables, chairs, and counters to jump back onto Zheng Qing’s shoulder, then perked up his large ears, curiously watching Wandering Wizard.

Of course, Poseidon might have been more interested in the box of pastries that Wandering Wizard was carrying.

Even Zheng Qing, who did not like overly sweet food, could not help but feel his appetite surge after smelling the sweet aroma coming from the box, not to mention the always gluttonous Little Fox.

”Hmm, a very interesting little thing... very interesting.” Wandering Wizard seemed to have discovered a new continent, lowering his head, squeezing out a kindly smile, and staring unblinkingly at Poseidon.

Zheng Qing felt a chill down his spine — he had every reason to believe that this old man definitely knew, or guessed, something.

Poseidon was also unafraid of strangers, his large tail flapping as he eagerly stared at the box of pastries the Elder Wizard was holding.

”Welcome, welcome, welcome an old friend of Absolution, and a new neighbor.” Xiao Xiao came around from behind the counter, holding a ledger and walking towards Wandering Wizard, while shaking a Feather Pen in his hand and hurriedly saying, ”You’ve arrived just in time... the two ears feel that the mice we supply to Wandering Bar each week are a bit too many, hoping to reduce the supply or Wandering Bar can sell them directly... What do you think of this deal?”

Wandering Wizard did not immediately answer Xiao Xiao’s question, but instead fixed his gaze on the Warlock’s shoulder.

On Xiao Xiao’s shoulders sat two mice dressed in green vests, nibbling on peanuts with gusto.

Noticing the elder wizard’s gaze, the mouse on Xiao Xiao’s left shoulder even lifted its paw slightly and waved a friendly greeting.

”I just mentioned, business matters can be discussed with the bar manager later,” the Wandering Wizard stared at the two mice for a while before he turned his attention back and politely declined, ”I am here today merely to congratulate you on your new store’s opening.”

”Ah, thank you, thank you... It’s all due to the school’s education,” Zheng Qing said with a grin, uttering these grand but irrelevant pleasantries.

The Wandering Wizard seemed to think otherwise.

After stuffing a bottle of wine into Zhang Ji Xin’s arms and passing a box of pastries to Xin Fat Man, the elder wizard turned around, looked at Zheng Qing, and said earnestly, ”No, it has little to do with the school’s education... After all, you’ve only been enrolled for less than half a year. There are countless wizards at the school with talents or educational levels higher than yours. Why haven’t they achieved what you have?”

”It’s all about individual effort,” Zheng Qing said.

”From our first meeting, I believed you could achieve great things, without a doubt. And look, just half a year later, you’ve earned the Merlin Medal and opened your own store. If a new edition of ’Magic Wand’ lists you among the Great Arcana, I would not be surprised at all.”

This public compliment made Zheng Qing’s ears turn red.

The Merlin Medal was manageable; after a few months of people talking about it, Zheng Qing had learned to face the discussions about the medal quite calmly.

But the situation with ”Magic Wand” or the ’Great and Small Arcana’ was entirely different.

While the Merlin Medal was merely a recognition, the Great and Small Arcana brought about substantial benefits. After all, the county official holds less sway than the one in charge; a student bestowed with an Arcana title at First University enjoyed countless privileges and conveniences.

Moreover, what was more important, the new edition of ”Magic Wand” hadn’t been published yet.

The Wandering Wizard’s outspoken favor for Zheng Qing placed great pressure on him. If he were truly selected, it might pass as casual conversation. But if he wasn’t chosen for Arcana, today’s praise would turn into a joke.

And people’s memory for jokes was much stronger than it was for honors or achievements.

”Very... very thankful for your compliment,” the young fee-paying student stuttered his thanks, then tried to steer the conversation elsewhere, ”If it weren’t for your bar, we couldn’t have afforded this location... Hahaha.”

What he meant was, due to the Wandering Bar, the businesses in this area were not thriving, hence the rents were low.

The Wandering Wizard quickly grasped the young wizard’s implication.

”Those are merely the prejudices of the mundane vision,” the elder wizard dismissed with a sniff.
