High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 863: Chapter 211: Professor’s Stance

The weekend meeting was as dull as ever.

Collecting homework, reading weekly journals, Old Yao’s long and boring talks on veteran topics, and the students whose minds wandered everywhere, presented a variety of typical scenes. Additionally, those sneakily catching up on homework, quietly flipping through newspapers, and folding paper figures to fight in the desk holes were quite common as well.

In these meetings, students always found ways to pass the time.

Of course, some things remained unchanged, but there were also developments.

For example, the next week, which was the seventeenth week of the term and the fourth last week before the winter break, was set to be quite lively.

Wednesday was Christmas Eve, and as per tradition, Alpha Academy would hold a grand costume ball and Under the Moon parade, while Atlas would conduct large-scale blessing and prayer ceremonies.

Thursday was Christmas, which goes without saying. Although for some Traditional Wizards, Christmas or no Christmas made little difference to them, First University hadn’t cancelled this relatively famous holiday considering social unity.

Besides, the following Friday to Sunday, a three-day period, belonged to First University’s winter hunt.

Since this year’s Silent Forest was not very tranquil, the arrangement for the winter hunt was delayed by a few days compared to previous years. However, these few days clashed with the time for everyone’s final exam revision—Zheng Qing had heard more than one person complaining about the exam schedule set by the Professor’s joint meeting, and more than one claiming to give up the winter hunt to focus entirely on preparing for the final exams.

Xin Fat Man was among those wizards who wanted to give up on the winter hunt.

”This is my first time taking the final exams, what if I fail? Do I have to repeat my freshman year like Nicholas? Even if I have some free time after class, I still have to submit articles for the Campus Newspaper... A weekly submission isn’t a joke; it could make someone go bald!” After hearing Old Yao’s announcement of the schedule, Fat Man couldn’t help but turn around and complain to Zheng Qing.

Similar to him, more than half of the class was buzzing in discussion about the timing table on the board.

Without a doubt, that was a very bad timetable.

But at the same time, it was also a timetable with no flexibility whatsoever—the School Works Committee, the research institution, the school’s Guardian Formations, the Mage Alliance’s cooperative defense, and so on, caused a domino effect; the school had no reason to evoke more complaints from Big Wizards just because of a few Little Wizards’ grievances.

As if he heard the many murmurs below, Professor Yao on the platform curled his finger and knocked forcefully on the lectern, raising his voice to scold, ”How many times have I said, exams test your regular accumulation, the little bits you gain throughout a semester, not something you can fully grasp with a few last-minute all-nighters... Even if you cram and score enough points, what’s the point? Wouldn’t it still be deceiving yourself?”

”Whether it’s deceiving oneself or not doesn’t matter, as long as the scores are enough,” Zheng Qing silently retorted inside—indeed, he could bet that more than half the class, like him, were rolling their eyes inwardly, scoffing at Old Yao’s words. But like him, no one dared stand up and point out the meaninglessness of Old Yao’s statement.

After all, the Professor’s words were always right.

Ranting about an acknowledged truth was not something a smart person would do.

The meeting did not last too long.

Old Yao ended the lecture half an hour earlier, giving back the saved time to everyone. However, this time was not for everyone to go back to their dorms to chat and sleep but to stay in the classroom to review their lessons.

While others were obediently sitting behind desks working on review questions, Old Yao called Zheng Qing to the platform.

”I heard that the opening of your shop was quite lively, even three members from the Moon Council were there?” he teased without looking up from the documents in his hands and keeping his eyes lowered behind his reading glasses.

Zheng Qing glanced behind him.

A faint golden halo shimmered in the white light, subtly separating the platform beside him and the rest of the classroom.

This was a Barrier, the young cost student surmised internally.

Hearing the Professor’s words, he hesitated for a moment before responding, ”Three? Weren’t there two? Was the Rat Immortal also a member of the upper house of the Moon Council?”

”Rat Immortal?” Old Yao raised his eyebrows, shaking his head repeatedly, ”No, no, that one is much more troublesome than those members of the upper house... I was talking about William Tapott, wasn’t he there too?”

Zheng Qing suddenly realized.

Before the meeting started, Xiao Xiao had mentioned that William had shown up. However, because the Wolfman Prince hadn’t appeared inside the shop, the warlock subconsciously excluded him.

”I thought you were talking about the customers who entered the shop,” the young cost student scratched his head awkwardly, apologizing.

”A customer who enters the shop is still a guest? I didn’t know that guests could start a fight with the host,” Old Yao finally shifted his attention away from the documents, looked up seriously at Zheng Qing, ”Is there anything you’d like to report? Don’t be afraid, this is First University, even the upper house members of the Moon Council have to follow the school rules when here.”

Zheng Qing was deeply moved upon hearing this, feeling a strong sense of support from behind.

However, remembering his relationship with Su Shijun and Xiao Xiao’s speculations, he became uncertain again—what use was there in complaining about Duke Milton even to Old Yao? Would the school arrange for the Duke to apologize to him? It would just cause needless trouble.

With this thought, he finally shook his head and said, ”It’s nothing serious, just some misunderstandings.”

Old Yao looked at him deeply, chuckled softly.

”Since it’s a misunderstanding, then find an opportunity to clear it up... If you need the school’s intervention, just file a report, don’t hesitate because it seems troublesome,” he paused, then broached another matter, ”Speaking of troubles, I remember you mentioned having trouble on Friday, how did that go?”

”Friday?” Zheng Qing blinked, momentarily confused.

Although it had been only around sixty to seventy hours since Friday, to Zheng Qing it felt like several weeks had passed. The sudden mention of that day by Old Yao indeed caught him unprepared.

”On Friday, you sent me a Flying Crane message saying your eyes were uncomfortable... How are they now?” As he spoke, Old Yao tapped on the lectern, without any other visible gesture, several slender vines sprouted from the void, deftly removing the large sunglasses from the young cost student’s face.

Behind the sunglasses were a pair of red, swollen eyes.

Zheng Qing blinked again, adapting to the slightly harsh external light, and also grasping what Old Yao meant.
