Chapter 875: Chapter 223 White Weasel

A white figure ’whooshed’ out of the bushes and bolted across the thick snow.

It was a white weasel.

Its slender body was covered with thick, pure white fur, and its fluffy tail swished like a sensitive rudder, swaying left and right, to control the direction of the white weasel’s movement.

The round little ears clung to the sides of its head, presenting a unique streamlined shape, so as not to create any resistance from the airflow for the advancing white weasel.

However, compared to its elegant and simple appearance, the weasel’s eyes were not so calm.

Even while sprinting, the little creature’s round eyes couldn’t help but dart around in panic, as if it were searching for something or afraid of something.

The winter sun was neither warm nor fiery, perfectly glazing the surface of the snow with a layer of ice, which made the soft snowflakes a bit harder on the exterior. Therefore, the white figure did not sink into the snow but actually sped up significantly on the snowfield.

From afar, behind the bushes, came a few noisy shouts, brought over by the howling cold wind, making the white figure run even more frantically.

”Hurry, it’s nearby!” a robust male voice shouted, breaking the silence of the forest, ”Don’t let it get away!”

”Gentlemen have already outflanked to the front; it won’t escape!” another voice, slightly more composed, said, ”Fat Man, go assist the elders and pay attention to movements outside the hunting circle... According to Doctor Xiao’s speculation, the one we have surrounded is a leader; if the rest of those little creatures don’t surrender willingly, they will definitely come to its aid.”

”Roger that!” the first voice answered and then hesitated, ”Um, Captain... do we still have Armor Horse Charms? I’m talking about the kind embedded with Featherweight Talismans. You know, it’s hard for someone like me to run in the snow...”

”My call sign is ’Sir,’ not Captain!” Zheng Qing gave Fat Man an annoyed look, then reached into his grey cloth bag and pulled out two pale yellow talisman papers.

These were a new idea he had a couple of days ago when he was drawing the Armor Horse Charms and embedded a Featherweight Talisman into them. When used, this new talisman paper could effectively reduce the user’s weight and speed, and it was surprisingly useful for those who were not so slender, such as Xin Fat Man and Zhang Ji Xin.

At the very least, when they were chasing prey in the snow, they wouldn’t have to feel like they had a couple of sandbags tied to their legs, nor would they need to stop every so often to pull their feet out of a snow pit.

Taking the two talisman papers Zheng Qing handed to him, Xin Fat Man’s face lit up with joy.

”Alright, Captain, we won’t let you down!” he saluted and reported solemnly.

”You’ve already disappointed me,” Zheng Qing couldn’t help but retort, ”How many times have I said it, call me ’Sir’... It’s a formal hunting event, can you at least act a bit more professional?”

However, since he had too much to say in his complaint, Xin Fat Man didn’t listen to all of it and turned to run towards the outskirts of the forest, leaving behind a trail of snowflakes that looked like flying white sand, as well as the agile silhouette of a hefty figure. Above Fat Man’s head fluttered a red paper crane, and the direction he was heading toward was the area where Zhang Ji Xin, the Wandering Hunter of the Absolution Hunting Team, was located.

”After this winter hunting season is over, we’re definitely going to strengthen the hunting team training,” Zheng Qing turned his head to look at Doctor Xiao who had been following silently, murmuring, ”This is just too poor, they can’t even use the codenames proficiently...”

”It’s really too shoddy.” Xiao Xiao glanced at the Colt Python hanging from the young government-sponsored student’s belt and kindly reminded him, ”Before proceeding with ’codename’ training, I personally think we need to strengthen our use of hunting equipment... like guns. Although your Fu Bullets are all wrapped in Talisman paper by yourself, using eighteen of them just to catch a weasel is way too extravagant.”

He was referring to an encounter from a previous Absolution Hunting Team outing.

After establishing a new hunting plan, the Absolution Hunting Team started a large-scale inspection of rat holes in their hunting area. They quickly located several nests of sizable mice and rounded them up—unfortunately, these rat holes did not contain the weasels Xiao Xiao had anticipated.

But from another perspective, finding these mice might not have been completely pointless.

After picking and choosing among the prey, aside from some healthy, good-looking mice that were caught and caged, ready to be displayed on the D&K counter after the winter hunt, the rest—sick, old, or weak—were hung with straw ropes and thrown into the snow to serve as bait.

It has to be admitted that most of the time, the old and simple methods are the most effective solutions.

Soon, a few ’Star Apes’ were tempted by the prey and appeared before the eyes of the hunters from the Absolution Hunting Team.

What followed was a chaotic hunt.

Since it deviated significantly from the initial hunting plan, many of the spells, talismans, and even magic artifacts prepared by the Absolution Hunting Team turned out to be unsuitable. Using a Binding Spell meant for silverback gorillas to tie up a weasel was like using an anti-aircraft gun to shoot a mosquito.

And there’s no guarantee of hitting it.

After all, mosquitoes are so small and agile, Zheng Qing had every reason to believe that the gaps in the anti-aircraft gun’s barrage would allow an entire army of mosquitoes to fly through unscathed.

If the effectiveness is poor, then make up for it with quantity.

The young government-sponsored student hardened his heart, clenched his teeth, and loaded his Colt with three rounds of Fu Bullets. Then, from far to near, he conducted full coverage shooting at the weasels dancing inside the Absolution encirclement.

This time, those ’Star Apes’ had no chance of escaping.

Of course, such wasteful conduct by the young government-sponsored student was heavily criticized by the others in the Absolution Hunting Team—not so much for the amount of talisman wasted, but because they felt Zheng Qing did not treat hunting with the mindset of a true hunter.

In Zhang Ji Xin’s words, ”You’re not here to participate in hunting, you’re here to play a game.”

At this moment, hearing Doctor Xiao bringing up old matters, the young government-sponsored student’s face lengthened, ”I know, I know, will you never let it go... those Fu Bullets were all rolled by me, okay? You should be really pleased with the improvement of my talisman drawing abilities!”

Xiao Xiao frowned, listening to his team leader’s suddenly changing tone, and finally, a hint of worry appeared on his face.

”Do you still recite the ’Many Heart Sutras’ that the Monk gave you every day?” He tentatively asked, ”How do you feel? Is it effective?”
