High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 891: Chapter 239: The Perplexing Silence

From the moment he clearly saw those four uninvited guests, Zheng Qingyuan felt his heart drop slightly.

Although the four individuals looked bizarre, none had ’Red Eyes,’ which alleviated some pressure for the scholarship student who had been worried about being targeted by Demons.

Of course, it was only a slight relief.

With identities unknown and objectives unclear, opponents who had knocked out the entire Assistant Team with their first strike didn’t exactly inspire confidence—especially since they allowed only him to remain conscious, which was even more alarming.

”Quiet!”

”Politeness!”

The serpent woman and the shiny God spoke one after another to stop a minor squabble among the other two companions. However, hearing the two of them speak, Zheng Qing couldn’t help but want to laugh.

”Speaking of politeness, you folks who don’t even introduce yourselves upon meeting are truly the impolite ones, huh?” the young scholarship student shouted with a slightly provocative tone.

The Minotaur and the turtle-shelled man turned their gaze towards the young wizard simultaneously.

”This child’s courage is remarkably outstanding,” Bull Head murmured softly.

”Perhaps he’s just fearless, thinking we won’t really harm him?” the turtle-shelled man said, his eyes drooping as he glanced maliciously at the scholarship student kneeling in the snow, a malevolent smile playing on his face. ”After all, he’s the only one awake right now... I really want to see his expression when he learns the truth.”

Although the dwarf’s voice wasn’t loud, in this silent world, it carried far enough for the young scholarship student to hear each word distinctly.

This made him both amused and anxious.

Amused because the other party seemed to have a misconception—perhaps they thought Zheng Qing should be trembling with fear, unable to speak in a normal way—but in reality, after experiences like the school entry incident, multiple confrontations with Wild Demons, regular midnight patrols, and the recent freshman competition, Zheng Qing’s composure had become remarkably steady.

He might be nervous, but not to the point of being speechless.

After all, if birds die, they face the sky; a swollen head is only the size of a bowl’s scar.

It wasn’t just bravado. The more experiences Zheng Qing accumulated, the clearer it became that in such moments, it was crucial to stay calm and face impending crises with a regular mindset. Maintaining a certain level of nervousness helped solve problems, but being too nervous to speak was useless.

The reason his heart tensed up again was because of what the turtle-shelled had just mentioned.

—The truth? What truth? No matter how you slice it, that’s not a friendly word. Does it have to do with eyes turning red? Or do they know that he had turned into a talking cat? Or perhaps it related to Fei Rui, Yellow Flowered Cat, or Mr.Wu? Or maybe with that massive Black Cat taken away by the authorities?

It couldn’t possibly have anything to do with Su Shijun, could it!

These chaotic thoughts flashed through Zheng Qing’s mind—thinking this, he suddenly realized there were quite a few things he didn’t know. If he could resolve one or two of them today, it might not be too bad?

With this thought, he couldn’t resist chuckling softly.

”Oops, there he goes, howling and laughing again... It couldn’t be that our appearance was a bit too shocking, and scared the kid silly, could it?” Bull Head, his eyes as wide as temple bells, raised his hand to touch his horns and turned to complain to the serpent woman:

”I said before, take advantage of the fact that he hasn’t met that dead mouse yet. Just knock him out with a stick in the dark and drag him away, but you had to make it so complicated... Now look, he’s met the mouse, and he’s gone crazy, Good Job!”

After a long silence, the beautiful snake finally turned her head, glanced at the Minotaur, and her lips slightly parted as she uttered two words: ”Shut up.”

The Minotaur immediately closed his mouth again.

However, even with his mouth shut, the broad mouth of the Minotaur still silently moved as if he was chewing on grass.

After the Minotaur quieted down, the scene suddenly fell into an eerie silence. The four uninvited guests stood on nearby branches, neither speaking nor making any other movements, staring motionlessly at Zheng Qing, making his scalp tingle and rendering him restless.

”Are you waiting for someone? Or a specific time? Maybe waiting for something to happen?” After a while, the young warlock couldn’t help but speak up, probing, ”It’s terribly cold... If you don’t mind, can I take them back first?”

He gestured towards his companions scattered haphazardly in the snow, snoring. Of course, he knew it was a suggestion with no chance of acceptance. But since they were idle anyway, there was no harm in trying. Who knows? They might just get to leave.

Unsurprisingly, no one responded to him.

After a few minutes, Zheng Qing couldn’t help but speak again, ”You mentioned earlier that you wanted to take a child away... who is it?”

This question was so obvious that even the Minotaur’s eyes showed a hint of disdain.

But still, no one responded.

Seeing this situation, Zheng Qing simply sat down cross-legged on the ground and started analyzing to himself, ”Although you look strange, your eyes are clear, so you probably aren’t bad people. Why would you do such a thing in front of First University? This place is less than five hundred meters from the school’s walls, well within the range of the school’s Protection Array. So many disappearances will surely bring you a lot of trouble!”

”Moon Council? Wizard Council? Or that legendary Dark Council?”

Zheng Qing racked his brains guessing their identities—it’s not that he was uninformed and couldn’t list more possibilities, but in the face of complete ignorance, he really had no way to further speculate on their identities.

The reason he listed the Moon Council first was partly because of Su Shi or the ’Shadow,’ who had the biggest motive and also because of the long-standing tradition of distrust towards moon creatures in the Wizard World.

Having spent a fair amount of time in the Wizard World, Zheng Qing couldn’t help but adopt some of these prejudices.

Regarding his guesses, the four uninvited guests still remained silent, merely standing on the high places, quietly staring at him.

This was somewhat unusual.

The young scholar, though puzzled, grew a bit more courageous.

”... this isn’t going to work. If you’re going to do something like this, you at least need to let us know what you want, right.”

”If you really have any demands, and you want to use our capture to negotiate with the school, I must remind you, this method is terrible... the school will not negotiate with terrorists.”

”If you really just came to kidnap someone, you should do it like the Minotaur said—cast a spell to knock everyone out and then snatch the person and run away. Not stand there on the branch in the cold wind, posing... Speaking of which, aren’t you cold up there? Want to come down and stomp your feet to warm up?”
