High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 885: Chapter 233: Assistant Team Enters the Scene

”Is there more?”

Seeing that despicable mice deliberately stop speaking at the crucial moment, Zheng Qing couldn’t help but to press for more.

”Is there more?!” Fei Rui squeezed his chubby cheeks, revealing a slightly malicious smile at the young wizard on scholarship, ”If there was more time, I would continue to tell you other interesting things.”

”How could there not be time...” Zheng Qing exclaimed anxiously, but his words were cut off by Fei Rui.

”Young man! Young man!” Fei Rui raised a finger, waving it slightly at the wizard on scholarship, his tone conveying a condescending didactic air, ”Young people always think they are right. Just like you kept claiming, ’We have plenty of time’... But in reality? The truth will eventually prove you wrong.”

”Look, those who are about to take your ’plenty of time’ away have already arrived.”

Saying this, his tiny paw lifted higher, pointing at something above everyone’s heads.

Zheng Qing and Xiao Xiao subconsciously looked up, following the direction of the voice.

They saw more than a dozen figures flickering into view, appearing just outside the range of the young scholar’s explosive Fu Method Array. They were all cloaked in black, each holding an open Law Book, from between the pages of which blue or green mists had begun to rise.

”Oh, no!” the young wizard on scholarship lamented.

He had recognized that the figures in black cloaks belonged to the Teaching Assistants of the Assistant Team—they included at least four individuals he knew, among them were Thomas, Assistant Hilda, as well as a tall, white-haired wizard and a purple-haired beauty who had appeared on the school charter flight.

As had been the case on the school charter flight, it was clear that the Teaching Assistants who had just come into Zheng Qing’s field of vision deemed the situation extremely urgent, and thus had not engaged in further communication with the young members of the Absolution Hunting Team, opting instead for the most brutal and direct approach.

”Walk Hesitant, center unstable!”

”Walk Hesitant, center as if intoxicated!”

”Neither shaken nor stirred, neither rigid nor startled!”

”Yu Yi Si!”

”With thin words send shock, none shall not repeat the quake!”

”Heaven sends down the net of punishment, malefactors incite discord within!”

”Ancient teachings as the form, majestic presence as the force!”

A series of Spells—whether high-pitched, grave, or deafening—erupted one after another throughout the silent forest. Snowflakes perched on the branches drifted down with the sound of the Spells, fluttering all about, creating the illusion of being amidst a heavy snowfall.

Out of caution for the explosive charms forming the Array, the wizards from the Assistant Team had not resorted to magic more dangerous than the Binding Spell to handle the crisis. They controlled the scene chiefly through spells akin to ’Word Spirit,’ ’Warning,’ and ’Causality.’

For instance, they used ’Walk Hesitant’ to rattle the minds of the wizards below, causing them to become groggy and lethargic; or ’Neither shaken nor stirred, neither rigid nor startled’ to fortify Zheng Qing’s will, preventing him from becoming shaken by surprise or disturbed by fear—this was to prevent the young wizard on scholarship from inadvertently triggering the explosion charms, which could lead to a grave mistake.

In addition, there were also spells that prompted Zheng Qing to seriously contemplate whether his actions were appropriate, such as the ’Meditative Introspection,’ the ’Thin Words, Shaking Presence,’ and the ’Ancient Precepts as Form, Dignity as Force,’ which bound student behavior by leveraging the school rules and discipline of First University, among others.

Various strange and extraordinary spells broadened Zheng Qing’s horizons immensely.

In his mind, the most vivid image of magic was none other than the Thunder Curse wielded by Thomas, and the one he had witnessed at the newcomer’s competition during the last hunting party. The grim spell, accompanied by thunderous roars, pulverized any opponent daring enough to resist into oblivion. However, now the methods of the teaching assistants made the young wizard realize that in this world, apart from those forceful and violent measures, magic also had a gentle and subtle side. It could prevent disasters from the roots by awakening certain thoughts in the depths of a wizard’s heart.

This series of thoughts was but a fleeting presence in the young government-sponsored student’s mind before it vanished without a trace.

Because he realized he had more important matters to attend to.

Zheng Qing had never really intended to detonate those Explosion charms; he merely used them to send a strong signal to the fat rat. Judging by the outcome, this signal did achieve its purpose—Fei Rui gave in quite a bit to the ’red-eyed’ young wizard, stumblingly coughing up a little something—although it was not enough to completely satisfy Zheng Qing.

But on the other hand, this signal was perhaps a little too ’strong.’ So strong that it reached beyond Fei Rui and was noticed by First University.

The school would absolutely not allow a mushroom cloud to rise over Buji Island.

Under the influence of the spell, Zheng Qing’s consciousness was somewhat scattered. He was occupied with the aforementioned thoughts, his neck forcefully twisting as he looked back to re-lock onto the fat rat’s figure.

When Zheng Qing turned back to look at Fei Rui, the fat mouse had inexplicably opened a sizable hole, about a foot in height, on the trunk of the Return Soul Poplar nearby, and the White and Yellow Weasels were lining up and scurrying into the hole swiftly.

They seemed completely unaffected by the spell!

This left the young government-sponsored student shocked and even more convinced of a close connection between Fei Rui and the Rat Immortal. After all, the ability to burrow and escape at any moment was something he had only seen in some dressed-up mice.

”Come visit the underground sometime,” Fei Rui was the last to squeeze into the tree hole, but before leaving, he poked out half of his head, waved his little paw at the government-sponsored student, all smiles, ”Remember to bring some fresh rat food... Everything’s fine down there, it’s just the food that’s a bit subpar!”

With that, he vanished into the darkness of the hole in a flash.

And as Fei Rui left, the hole on the main trunk of the Return Soul Poplar also began to shrink visibly fast, from the size of a basketball, to that of a volleyball, then a tennis ball, a ping pong ball, and finally into a black dot that disappeared without a trace.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Team’s teaching assistants also dismantled the Explosion charm Array that Zheng Qing had set up.

”The person inside, listen up, put your hands on your head and lie down on the ground obediently... Throw your Law books on the ground and don’t move!” Assistant Hilda’s pretentiously serious voice came from outside.

Zheng Qing exchanged glances with Xiao Xiao, smiled wryly, lay down obediently, and threw their Law books onto the snowy ground.

”What are you doing?” Thomas walked up, grabbed the two young wizards, and pulled them up from the snow, ”You two bookworms... You actually listened to that brat Hilda!”

”He’s just obsessed with cop dramas for commoners lately; he’s being ridiculous... Since when have you seen a wizard need a suspect to put their hands on their head and lie down on the ground during an arrest operation?”

”We haven’t seen it,” Zheng Qing answered honestly: ”Aside from that half-time at the Great Ming Pavilion... this is the first.”
