Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 492: Chapter 267: Striking It Lucky (Second Update)

Kenneth Osborne returned home just in time for dinner.

The Daoist’s cooking was naturally flawless. Even though Kenneth had things on his mind, he unknowingly ate three large bowls of rice, drank two bowls of soup, and had plenty of meat and cold dishes.

Lawrence Winters only had a bowl of soup and ate a lot of cold dishes, barely touching the meat dishes.

She also had things on her mind and wasn’t really hungry.

After dinner, Gabrielle Winters and Nick Zeller cleaned up the dishes and the table.

Lawrence Winters went to Kenneth Osborne’s room to talk.

”Kenneth, when are you planning to see sister Brooke and your parents?” Lawrence asked curiously.

Kenneth pulled her hand, sat on the windowsill designed as a tatami, and laughed, ”Are you in such a hurry? Do you want to go with me to meet my in-laws?”

”Oh, please! I’m not even married, where would the in-laws come from?” Lawrence lifted her face proudly, ”I’m just thinking, what exactly is Cameron Spencer up to... What kind of game is he playing using your sister and your parents?”

Kenneth initially thought this matter had nothing to do with him, but after Lawrence said this, he felt maybe it wasn’t entirely unrelated.

Plus, someone of Cameron Spencer’s status probably wouldn’t act with only one motive, right?

There are plenty of cases of killing two birds with one stone, or even three.

From this perspective, he probably couldn’t just stay out of it.

Kenneth looked down at the engagement ring on Lawrence’s hand and said lightly, ”Who knows? Maybe he’s still upset that I messed up his acquisition plan...”

”But he’s already married to your sister and even has a son...” Lawrence couldn’t quite understand Cameron Spencer’s mindset, ”Could he still hope to leverage your sister’s connections to ask you to get the money back?”

”That wouldn’t be it.” Kenneth chuckled, ”Business is business; I’m sure Mr. Spencer understands this better than I do.”

”Then what’s the reason? Is he trying to make connections for easier business in the future?” Lawrence joked, ”Or does he see you as a promising prospect and wants to buy you out early, just like me?”

She wrapped her arms around Kenneth’s neck, smiling as she admired his captivating features.

Kenneth looked thoughtful, ”You have a point; I hadn’t considered that. — Thank you for reminding me, Nora.”

”Could it really be true? I was just guessing...” Lawrence felt embarrassed, ”Actually, if he thinks that, it’s just a waste of effort since you’re not that kind of person, right?”

Kenneth pinched her peachy cheeks, ”Of course not; Nora always understands me best.”

The two got cozy for a while longer before returning to their rooms.

...

Early the next morning, Brooke Osborne indeed called Kenneth Osborne, saying she was already standing in front of the elevator of the building they lived in, hoping to come up and see him.

By this time, Kenneth had already figured out Cameron Spencer’s intentions.

The first target must be Nick Zeller, and the second, maybe him.

He no longer stopped them, saying, ”Wait a moment, let me check if everyone is up.”

He walked out of his room and saw the Daoist sitting alone in the living room, brewing tea.

Lawrence’s room was locked, while Gabrielle and Nick’s doors were open.

He went over to take a look, seeing that both Gabrielle and Nick’s rooms were empty.

”Old Master, do you know where Aunt Gabrielle and Uncle Nick went?” Kenneth asked in puzzlement.

It was only seven in the morning, and Nick typically wouldn’t be up so early.

The Daoist chuckled, ”I calculated that my apprentice would have great fortune today, so I sent him out early to try his luck.”

Kenneth: ”...”

He really shouldn’t have asked seriously; the Daoist would never give straightforward answers.

He had to smile and say, ”What about Aunt Gabrielle? Did she also go out to try her luck?”

”Her? No, she went out to buy breakfast.” The Daoist took a sip of freshly brewed tea and sighed with satisfaction, ”My apprentice just tagged along.”

Kenneth: ”...”

Most of the time, they cooked breakfast themselves, but one or two days a week, they went out to buy it.

There was a breakfast shop nearby that made particularly delicious fish congee and pan-fried buns. Bringing the buns back to dip in the fish congee was a heavenly treat.

He couldn’t help but glance at his watch. If he guessed correctly, there was a good chance Gabrielle and Nick would meet Brooke and her group at the elevator.

Kenneth’s guess was spot on.

Gabrielle and Nick each carried a large paper bag as they entered from outside the complex.

The two saw Brooke holding a child, along with Kenneth’s parents, and a very sharp-looking old man at the elevator.

Initially, Gabrielle couldn’t recall who the old man was, but Nick immediately recognized him as Cameron Spencer.

However, he pretended not to know, smiling at Brooke and her parents, ”Oh? Brooke, what are you doing here? Wow, your parents are here too. Are they here to see Kenneth?”

Unbeknownst to them, Kenneth’s parents thought he had bought a large apartment here himself, and upon hearing this, they were almost ecstatic with joy.

”What? Kenneth lives here?!”

”So you’re neighbors as well?!”

Kenneth’s parents questioned in unison, leaving Gabrielle and Nick unsure of whom to answer first.

Brooke, who was aware, quickly and awkwardly interjected, ”Aunt Gabrielle, Uncle Nick, this is my son, oh, and this is my husband, Mr. Cameron Spencer.”

Cameron Spencer laughed heartily and extended his hand to Nick Zeller: ”Mr. Zeller? A pleasure to meet you, a pleasure indeed.”

Nick Zeller also extended his hand, smiling even more heartily than Cameron Spencer: ”Mr. Spencer! I should say it’s a pleasure! Brooke is truly amazing! She didn’t marry in a rush, but when she did, it was to a nationally famous tycoon!”

Nick Zeller was tall and burly, Cameron Spencer was half a head shorter than him.

He looked up slightly at Nick Zeller, with a smile that was not quite a smile, and said: ”Oh? You actually knew about me beforehand?”

Nick Zeller shook Cameron Spencer’s hand and said with a smile: ”A top ten tycoon on the national wealth list, with your advertisements and photos everywhere. If I said I didn’t recognize you, would you believe me? I’m quite a well-known Feng Shui Master!”

”Mr. Spencer, having you as a guest in my home is truly a blessing for my whole family!”

”No wonder my master told me I’d receive riches from heaven today! He woke me up early to go out and ’hit the jackpot’! And indeed, I did!”

His obsequious demeanor was just like those businessmen who flattered him in business circles.

A trace of doubt flashed almost imperceptibly in Cameron Spencer’s eyes, but he didn’t show it, still politely saying: ”Mr. Zeller, you’re too kind. I just have better luck, that’s all, and barely squeezed into the top ten on the rich list.”

”You are too modest!” Nick Zeller said as he had already pressed the code, opened the elevator, and beckoned, ”Everyone come on in!”

While Nick Zeller spoke with Cameron Spencer, Kenneth Osborne’s parents sat quietly on the side, not daring to interrupt.

Because Nick Zeller was so theatrical, he could hold up the entire stage by himself, leaving no room for others to interject.

Gabrielle Winters quietly chatted with Brooke Osborne on the side, looking with interest at the child she was holding.

Little Winter was chubby and very cute, but unfortunately, compared to Kenneth Osborne when he was young, there was no comparison.

But looking at Kenneth’s parents, Gabrielle Winters knew Kenneth Osborne must be a genetic mutation.

Of course, Brooke Osborne was also very beautiful, prettier than both her parents.

The siblings turned out well.

Gabrielle Winters sighed inwardly.

This was when Nick Zeller and Cameron Spencer’s conversation ended, and silence suddenly filled the elevator.

Kenneth’s mom quickly asked, ”Nick, is my son Arwen’s house here too? Is it also a large flat?”

This whole community was large flats, her question was redundant.

Nick Zeller replied vaguely, ”Yes, it’s here, it’s a large flat.”

He didn’t have the heart to tell Kenneth Osborne’s family that he was just staying at their place.

Kenneth’s mom, however, thought she guessed right and was instantly overjoyed, even considering moving in with her son for a moment.

But then she thought about all the Spencer Family’s property and how little Winter was so small without them, she didn’t know how the mother and son would be ostracized...

So she dismissed the idea.

Soon the elevator arrived at Lawrence Winters’ floor, and stopped at the elevator lobby.

They all walked out together.

Brooke Osborne’s house had a similar layout, but since Cameron Spencer bought it in a rush, that apartment had been lived in, and the decoration wasn’t as high-end as Lawrence Winters’ home.

Kenneth’s parents immediately fell in love with this apartment.

They looked around all the way, following Gabrielle Winters and Nick Zeller into the living room.

When they saw Gabrielle Winters and Nick Zeller, they felt something was off.

”Huh? Why do you have my son’s house key? Isn’t the elevator a direct entry?” Kenneth’s mom immediately asked.

Gabrielle Winters smiled and said: ”This is my home, I’m returning to my home.”

Brooke Osborne quickly tugged her mom’s sleeve and gave her a look.

Kenneth’s mom thought it was to save Gabrielle face and reluctantly said, ”Where’s my son? Where’s Arwen?”

Kenneth Osborne had already heard the commotion and came out of the old Daoist’s room.

”Arwen!”

”Arwen!”

Brooke Osborne and Kenneth’s mom called out together.

They hadn’t seen Kenneth Osborne for a long time and missed him greatly.

Kenneth Osborne walked over with a smile and said: ”Did you come up with Aunt Gabrielle and Uncle Nick? Please have a seat.”

Gabrielle Winters and Nick Zeller already headed to the dining room, placing the breakfast they bought onto serving trays.

Lawrence Winters came out of her room rubbing her eyes, and said loudly: ”I smell fish porridge and fried buns! Mom, did you buy fish porridge and fried buns?!”

She wore casual loungewear, her hair was casually tied in a bun, and fluffy slippers were on her feet as she walked out nonchalantly.

Although Kenneth’s mom used to really like Lawrence Winters, now seeing her so casual, she turned sour and said: ”Is this Lawrence? How come you’re living in my son’s house?—Is it really proper for an unmarried girl to do so?”

Brooke Osborne got anxious right away and said: ”Mom! That’s not it! This is Lawrence’s home!”
