Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 107: Chapter 74: The Higher the Dao, the Taller the Wall (Second Major Update)

”Really, don’t we need to find their big boss?” Lawrence Winters’ voice sounded a little anxious.

Worried about disturbing her roommates, she put on her coat and went to the balcony to send a voice message to Nick Zeller, ”Uncle, can we find a place to talk on the phone? It’s more convenient than voice messages.”

Nick Zeller glanced at Gabrielle Winters and said, ”I need to go back to my room to prepare properly, you should go to bed early.”

Gabrielle Winters and he each stayed in a business suite in the hotel.

”Okay, you rest early too. Since we know the person behind this, it’s not hard to deal with.” Gabrielle Winters had great confidence in Nick Zeller.

Nick Zeller nodded with a smile and returned to his suite next door.

Once back in his suite, he connected the call with Lawrence Winters.

”Lawrence, don’t worry about it. Uncle already has a plan.” Nick Zeller sat on the sofa, bent over to pick up an old looking travel bag from the floor, and took out a yellowed, old-style paper notebook from it.

This notebook looked like it was at least a few decades old, the kind you couldn’t find on the market anymore.

But he took it out, treating it like a priceless treasure, cherishingly caressing the notebook.

The cover was made of a red synthetic brocade-like fabric, with a faded peony drawn at the bottom right corner, and its pages were almost falling apart.

On the other end of the call, Lawrence Winters asked confusedly, ”...You really don’t want to find the Spencer Family’s big boss? I believe this has nothing to do with him, it must be that third wife from the Spencer Family acting on her own authority.”

”You know this, and you think I don’t?” Nick Zeller scoffed, crossing his legs and placing his phone on the coffee table in front of him, then putting on a Bluetooth headset to free his hands for flipping through the old notebook.

”Right, you know that too, so why not use the simplest way to solve this?” Lawrence was anxious. At this moment, she truly wished she could be with her uncle and mom, to face this challenge together.

Especially since this challenge was caused by her.

Her tone dropped, and she said with some guilt, ”Uncle, it’s all my fault. If I hadn’t stubbornly gone against the daughter of the wealthiest man in the province, I wouldn’t have offended her to this extent.”

Perhaps there was some truth in what her uncle used to say, ”To err is human, to forgive divine”?

Nick Zeller’s hand paused, and the smile on his face seemed to freeze, like he was wearing a lifelike mask.

His gaze gradually darkened, and he spoke slowly into the headset, ”Lawrence, be honest with me, do you really think you were wrong in your issue with Molly Zimmerman?”

Lawrence thought carefully for a moment, then shook her head and said firmly, ”Uncle, to be honest, I don’t think I’m wrong. The one who started it is to blame. She provoked me first. She couldn’t stand my relationship with Yuan better than hers, so she set traps for me everywhere. If I didn’t fight back, I’d be the one embarrassed. I’d be the one whose reputation was ruined.”

”Exactly.” Nick Zeller tossed the notebook back into the travel bag, took a cigarette out from his pocket, and walked to the balcony as he lit it.

Because the hotel he was staying at did not allow smoking indoors, he had to go to the unsealed balcony to indulge his smoking habit.

Nick Zeller took a slow drag from the cigarette, feeling the harsh yet invigorating sensation travel from his nose down into his lungs, then cycle back up to his throat.

Opening his mouth, he exhaled a mouthful of smoke that had completed a circuit through his body and said slowly, word by word, ”As long as you didn’t do anything wrong, don’t feel guilty, and certainly don’t be ashamed.”

”Why does Uncle work so hard to make money and strive upward? It’s not so you can do whatever you want just because you have money, but so you can stand firm and not fear any suppression when you’re doing what you believe is right.”

”So, as long as you didn’t do anything wrong, it’s those people who are wrong to treat us this way.”

”What they’re doing violates the way of nature, even heaven won’t help them. — Don’t worry, when I say I have a plan, I mean it. Don’t you trust me as much as your mother does?”

Lawrence Winters felt warmth spreading in her heart, and the guilt that had just begun to sprout was completely extinguished by her uncle’s words.

She nodded heavily, ”I know, of course I trust you, Uncle, I’m just a bit confused. You taught me to ask when in doubt!”

”Hmm, well said.” Nick Zeller chuckled, ”Let me explain then. It’s true that someone from the Spencer Family is involved, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to hire these four Grand Geomancers.”
