Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 79: Chapter 59: Plucking a White Lotus (Part 1)

The girl pointed at Lawrence Winters and continued, ”Look at the online posts! Although Molly Zimmerman is kind-hearted and above this, the truth is clear. You’re the one who stole your roommate’s boyfriend!”

Kenneth Osborne’s face gradually darkened.

The last incident was just some people gossiping baselessly.

Kenneth Osborne couldn’t be bothered to publicly clarify or explain.

Over the years, too many people at school have spread rumors about who was supposedly his girlfriend.

Because these were all baseless rumors, he used to actively explain initially, but realized that the more he explained, the more excited those people got, even saying ”denying means guilty conscience, explaining means guilty.”

So in response to these rumors, he adopted an attitude of ignoring them.

Soon, those rumors would collapse without him doing anything, and the people would cease their attacks.

But this time it was too much.

He could remain indifferent to the rumors, but they shouldn’t have dragged Lawrence into it, labeling her as the ”mistress” and subjecting her to moral judgment.

Kenneth Osborne said deliberately, ”I have never had a girlfriend before, nor do I have one now. Whether I will have one in the future depends on the circumstances. So can you stop with these boring tricks? — When did it become a crime for male and female classmates to watch a movie together?”

The boy next to the girl quickly said, ”It’s your own fault if you’re unrestrained, don’t blame others for talking about you. My girlfriend has a strong sense of justice and can’t stand seeing this kind of mess!”

Lawrence Winters was much more sharp-tongued than Kenneth. She snorted coldly, withdrew her hand, and stared at the girl, ”Your eyes have a fiery look, and you have a mouth ulcer, indicating you’re too ’hot’ inside. Has your boyfriend not satisfied you lately?”

Then she looked at the boy next to her and said, ”The whites of your eyes are red, your face is pale, and there’s a red vein on your philtrum. This shows you’ve been overindulging recently and just had intense exercise...”

”One of you is unfulfilled and drooling over other men, while the other is cheating, weak from exhaustion. Who gave you the right to play moral judge and criticize others?”

The two bystanders shouted at the same time.

”What?!”

”What?!”

The girl suddenly turned to glare at her boyfriend, ”...What exactly have you been doing?! I called you fifteen minutes ago and you didn’t answer. I went to your dorm to find you, and you weren’t there! You then told me you were in the study room doing exercises? Which study room?!”

The boy didn’t expect Lawrence to see through his actions with just one glance. He was now weak in the knees, without his previous bravado, and pleaded with the girl, ”Nana, let me explain! She’s talking nonsense! Don’t be fooled by her!”

”I’m lying?” Lawrence Winters smiled slightly, ”He just finished not long ago. If Classmate Nana doesn’t believe, take him to a private place to check for yourself.”

Saying this, she patted the girl’s shoulder and walked away gracefully.

Kenneth Osborne couldn’t help but twitch his eye muscles again, staring at her back for a moment, then slightly hooked his lips and quickly followed her.

...

They walked along, each holding their phone, reading through the forum posts mentioned by the girl.

When they reached the bottom of Lawrence’s dorm building, Kenneth saw that Lawrence still seemed a bit gloomy. He patted her head and said, ”Don’t worry, I’ll issue a statement today to settle this for you. You know it’s all fake.”

”Forget it, what statement are you going to make? If she dares to try to reach the moon by causing trouble, a glance from you means I’ve lost.” Lawrence Winters pouted unhappily, ”Although I’m not your girlfriend, nor your mom, if you dare to date Molly Zimmerman in the future, our decade-long revolutionary friendship will end right there.”

She never disliked someone as much as she disliked Molly Zimmerman, and Molly truly achieved it.

The person who posted rumors earlier was forgivable; after all, it was baseless, and Lawrence wasn’t too angry.

What angered her the most was Molly Zimmerman’s fake performative ’clarification’.

Others might not see through the ruse in her ’clarification’, but she saw it clearly.

Truly an extraordinary ”Saint Mother” who is always right, always undefeatable!

Lawrence Winters fumed, her nostrils flaring, her peach-shaped face flushed with red.

Kenneth Osborne hastily raised his hand to swear, ”Even if I stay single for life, I will never be with Molly Zimmerman. You can rest assured that my taste is not that bad.”

”Really?” Lawrence cast him a suspicious look, ”Words mean nothing. Why should I trust you?”

Kenneth thought for a moment, then took a bank card from his wallet and handed it to Lawrence, ”Take it. The password is your birthday followed by mine. Yours first, mine second.”

”...Why are you giving me a bank card?” Lawrence was even more confused, ”And using my birthday for the password—is it because my birthday numbers are luckier than yours, so you feel inadequate with your own?”

Kenneth: ”...”

He took a deep breath and smiled, ”Didn’t you say my promises lack sincerity? Here’s my sincerity. All my assets are in this card, all for you. Is that sincere enough?”

”Ah? That sincere?” Lawrence couldn’t help but grin, ”Then let’s see just how sincere you are!”

Kenneth took out his phone and showed her the balance on the bank card.

Lawrence raised her eyebrows in surprise, ”Not bad, Kenneth. You’re still in college and you have nearly a million in savings... Aside from classes, are you moonlighting as a bank robber?”

”Why would I do anything illegal?” Kenneth put his phone away and looked at her calmly, ”It’s money earned from a company I co-founded with someone.”

”Ah? You’re starting a company too, Kenneth? What kind of company?!” Lawrence Winters’ eyes lit up, and he raised his hand to pat Kenneth Osborne’s shoulder, ”I didn’t see it coming, Kenneth, you’re a real treasure boy!”

What the heck, treasure boy!

Kenneth Osborne resisted the urge to vomit blood and continued calmly, ”I’m studying computer science, and my master’s research focuses on artificial intelligence. I’ve co-founded a small company with my classmates, doing software outsourcing AI optimization programs for big companies. It doesn’t earn much, but it’s enough for me to live on.”

”No wonder you could come up with tens of thousands to pay the value-added tax for Sister Xiao...” Lawrence Winters envied him, his big eyes curved like two crescents, instantly sweeping away his previous gloom, ”Turns out your financial foundation is really solid!”

”It’s my honor that this little money caught the eye of Little Heavenly Master,” Kenneth Osborne raised an eyebrow, somewhat incredulous, ”You and your uncle earn much more than me, why are you so surprised by such a small amount?”

Lawrence Winters nodded, somewhat dejected, ”Of course, I’m envious. My uncle earns more, but what’s that got to do with me? The money I saved is not even a fraction of yours...”

”Now do you trust my sincerity?” Kenneth Osborne patted her head, his voice softening.

”I believe you, I believe you!” Lawrence Winters nodded repeatedly, ”But if you leave the card with me, what will you do if you need money?”

Kenneth Osborne rubbed his chin, hesitated for a moment, and then raised his phone, ”...The bank card is linked to my phone.”

”Oh...” Lawrence Winters elongated her voice, teasingly said, ”I see your sincerity is about half-off now.”

Before Kenneth Osborne could argue, Lawrence Winters had already raised her hand and patted his shoulder, ”But it’s enough. I won’t actually spend your money. This card is just symbolic, I understand.”

You understand nothing!

Kenneth Osborne really wanted to curse.

But as long as Lawrence Winters’ clear, laughing eyes looked at him, he couldn’t get angry.

”...Alright, go on upstairs, don’t mind those kinds of people in the dorm, I’ll help you handle it,” Kenneth Osborne held her hand but soon let go, just like an ordinary friend.

Lawrence Winters tilted her head and laughed, ”What a joke, I will definitely go back and teach that Saint Mother-like white lotus a lesson in life.”

”...You guys are in the same dormitory,” Kenneth Osborne didn’t want Lawrence Winters to have too much conflict with her roommate, he always considered Lawrence Winters to be just a freshman little rascal.

Although he also knew, Lawrence Winters was already a senior, traveling south and north with Nick Zeller to do feng shui readings, she shouldn’t be worse than him in terms of social interactions.

But he couldn’t help but worry.

Lawrence Winters restrained her smile, put Kenneth Osborne’s bank card in her wallet, and said calmly, ”Just a white lotus. The ancients said, if you can pick a flower, do so directly, don’t wait until there are no flowers left only to snap an empty branch.”

Kenneth Osborne was amused by her again, ”Is that how this poem is used?—You’re my treasure girl!”

”Hehe, we’re each other’s treasures, that’s nice, no one loses out!” Lawrence Winters winked at him and turned to head back to the dormitory.

Kenneth Osborne stood downstairs, looking up in the direction of her dormitory for a while.

Once he saw her figure appear at the window, waving at her, then he turned to leave.

...

Lawrence Winters returned to the dormitory, where Sister Three Billion, Mad Girl, and Molly Zimmerman were already there.

None of them spoke, the room was quiet, each had the bright LED desk lamp on at their writing desk.

Lawrence Winters opened the door and walked in, undressing her coat while directly asking Molly Zimmerman who was sitting by the door, ”Room leader, that post still hasn’t been deleted, can you help clarify again?”

Molly Zimmerman was slightly stunned, stared at her Apple laptop for a while, then slowly turned around, thinking she had misheard, ”...What did you say?”

Lawrence Winters draped her coat over her arm, her long legs in knee-high boots, looking mighty and valiant.

She looked down at Molly Zimmerman, smiling faintly, ”It’s precisely the post the room leader went to ’clarify’ with real-name authentication today! Saying I’m a mistress, snatching the room leader’s boyfriend, it’s utterly hilarious!”

”Hahaha! Such a vivid imagination! Room leader, even ’busy with work and study so neglecting your boyfriend’ could be made up!”

”We’ve lived in the same room for over a month now, I’ve never seen Kenneth Osborne come to find you!”

Molly Zimmerman couldn’t believe Lawrence Winters dared to speak to her like this.

She has always been kind, but wasn’t going to let herself be trampled by such an insignificant person!

Molly Zimmerman directly frowned, ”Lawrence Winters, are you possessed? What nonsense are you talking about? I’ve already said online that the post is false, what more do you want?”
