Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 70: Chapter 54: Childhood Sweethearts (Second Update)

Kenneth Osborne was still sitting on his bicycle, one leg propped on the ground and the other bent on the pedal, looking very relaxed and casual.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Lawrence Winters stealthily taking advantage of the distraction to move her feet and run towards the entrance of the dormitory building.

He chuckled to himself but kept a gentle smile on his face, saying, ”Why are you asking this question?”

”Of course, I need to figure it out! If you don’t have a girlfriend, doesn’t that mean we still have a chance?” The girl boldly said, her bright eyes sparkling in the light.

Kenneth slightly raised an eyebrow, glancing subtly in Lawrence’s direction to urge her to hurry into the dormitory, while he stayed back to deflect attention.

He looked as if he was pondering and after a moment, he smiled and said, ”I’m really busy right now and don’t have time for a girlfriend.”

”So that girl you took to dinner isn’t your girlfriend?” Another girl cautiously verified, boldly speculating.

Their fiery gazes stared at Kenneth unflinchingly.

Kenneth marveled at how other girls were so bold and intuitive, while the girl he knew was completely immune to him. Half-jokingly, he tilted his head and smiled, eliciting gasps of admiration from the surrounding girls.

”Oh my god! Kenneth’s playful head tilt is too cute to handle!”

”Kill me, kill me! Brother genius, kill me!”

Kenneth was amused and said gracefully, ”I’ve had meals with many girls, you know. There’s the end-of-year department dinner, and dorm get-togethers over holidays. You can’t label all of them as my girlfriend, can you?”

After saying this, he saw that Lawrence had already successfully ”escaped” into the dormitory building, so he stopped chatting nonsense with the girls, turned around, swiftly mounted his bike, and rode away quickly.

A group of girls continued to swoon at his retreating figure.

”Truly the heartthrob of our Metropolitan North University, even his escape looks so handsome!”

...

Lawrence Winters used all her strength to run back to her dorm on the third floor in one breath.

This time, she didn’t get lost and found room 366 on the third floor without any trouble.

She took out her key and opened the door, finding all the lights inside turned off.

As she entered, she casually turned on the lights.

”...Why turn on the lights? I’m sleeping.” Molly Zimmerman’s muffled voice came from the top bunk next to the door, as if she was completely under the covers when she spoke.

The filtering of the quilt made her voice sound a bit unclear.

Lawrence looked up curiously and asked, ”Room leader? You’re asleep? It’s not even six o’clock yet. Are you sick?”

When Lawrence had left the dorm, Molly had long gone, saying she was going to study in the library.

It was not even six in the evening now, yet she was already in bed.

Lawrence instinctively thought Molly might be sick.

Upon hearing Lawrence’s voice, Molly was intrigued and sat up in bed.

She looked down at Lawrence and surveyed her from head to toe, frowning, ”...Are you wearing your down jacket inside out?”

Lawrence giggled, took off the down jacket, hung it on the wall by her bed, and jokingly lied, ”Yeah, today’s weather is kind of weird. The almanac said wearing clothes inside out will ward off bad luck.”

”Huh? Is that a thing?” Molly squinted at Lawrence’s down jacket on the wall, becoming increasingly convinced it was the same one worn by the girl on Kenneth Osborne’s bicycle.

Looking again at Lawrence’s back, and particularly her hairstyle, it seemed undeniably similar.

Considering that both Lawrence and Kenneth were graduates from River City High, Molly felt she had reason to suspect Kennedy took Lawrence out for dinner.

She casually adjusted her hair and asked, as if unintentionally, ”...Did you just go out for dinner?”

Lawrence ”uh-huh”-ed while rummaging through her suitcase for her small electric kettle to boil water.

Molly watched her busy back, bit her lip, and asked, ”Did Kenneth take you?”

Lawrence was about to continue with ”uh-huh,” but suddenly realized Molly said ”Kenneth,” not ”Kenneth Osborne.”

She turned back with a smile at Molly and said, ”Who’s Kenneth? Who’s Kenneth?”

Molly hadn’t expected Lawrence to be so cautious and sly, awkwardly smiled, and said, tilting her head slightly, while instinctively picking at the patterns on the quilt, ”That’s Kenneth Osborne. He’s your fellow townsman, right?”

”Oh, you mean Kenneth Osborne.” Lawrence deliberately said loudly, ”Of course, he’s a fellow townsman! We went to the same elementary school, the same middle school, and the same high school. We were even neighbors!”

Molly felt a sinking feeling in her heart and couldn’t speak for a while.

This was a childhood friendship!

And judging by Kenneth Osborne’s demeanor, he didn’t seem to reject this childhood friend...

She scrutinized Lawrence with a somewhat darkened gaze.

Aside from being a bit chubby, this girl had no significant flaws, but also nothing particularly outstanding.

Molly clenched her fist and quickly changed her tone in a slightly upbeat way, ”Wow, you two are really close. I’ve attended so many night study sessions with Kenneth, and he’s never once mentioned he has a neighbor and fellow townsman like you.”

Lawrence feigned surprise and asked, puzzled, ”...You guys are studying in the evening, why would Kenneth Osborne mention me? This is Metropolitan North University, you were all academically excellent to get in, you can’t embarrass our high school alma mater!”

She concluded earnestly, ”...Focus on your studies during night classes, don’t think about irrelevant things. Many students dream of getting into Metropolitan, but can’t. Room leader, you must cherish this rare university opportunity!”

Molly felt her blood boiling in an instant!
