Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 54: Chapter 45: There’s Always a Higher Mountain

”Of course, Brooke doesn’t have that much money. Gregory definitely doesn’t want to pay, but we can force him to pay... relying on this contract...” Lawrence Winters shook those few sheets of paper, a sly glint flashing in his eyes.

Nick Zeller was still hesitating, ”But if he refuses to acknowledge it, your sister Brooke has no way to repay... and you’ve issued an invoice! That’s taxable!”

The thought of the VAT from the ”business tax replace with VAT” made Nick Zeller feel like he was really going to have a heart attack.

Lawrence Winters was indifferent, ”So what? If we don’t help Brooke, she’ll really have to leave with nothing! — Can you stand by and watch Gregory, that bastard, get a house for free while Brooke shoulders fifty thousand in debt?”

She wasn’t the kind of person who would rush to help just because she saw injustice, she simply didn’t want to see Gregory cheat Brooke Osborne out of her money.

Just imagining that bastard getting fifty thousand in down payment for free, even though it wasn’t her money, Lawrence Winters felt her heart bleeding.

Nick Zeller then remembered the arrogant post Gregory made on Zhihu, his eyes narrowed unpleasantly, ”You make a good point.”

”Haha, every cause has an effect, your karma is me...”

It turns out that the cause and effect had long been predetermined.

Lawrence Winters raised an eyebrow, ”Uncle, what are you talking about?”

”I said you’re making a good point,” Nick Zeller snapped back into reality, ”Keep talking, so what’s your plan to deal with that bastard Gregory?”

Lawrence Winters beckoned with a finger, ”Come closer, I’ll whisper it to you.”

Nick Zeller leaned his ear in.

She whispered her plan, leaving Nick Zeller grinning from ear to ear.

After hearing her plan, he almost picked her up and twirled her around.

”My little Lawrence, you’ve really grown up! In the future, if anything comes up, can you also set up a little scheme for your uncle? I’ll give you a commission!” Nick Zeller warmly praised Lawrence Winters, almost tossing a bone for her to chew on.

Lawrence Winters curled her lips, ”...Don’t think you can brush me off with a few nice words, I’m waiting for you to promote me...”

”Hahaha, no rush, no rush,” Nick Zeller laughed off the conversation, helping Lawrence Winters with the procedures, clearing up accounts, and promptly organizing the tax forms, paying off tens of thousands in tax, solidifying the deal.

...

During the few days of the New Year, Gregory Quinn was looking everywhere for someone to book an expert consultation, wanting treatment for his face and leg, but the experts in River City weren’t quite qualified, no one could tell what was wrong with him, all vaguely wrote a medical record suggesting he should visit a specialist in a big city when he had the time.

Gregory Quinn had no choice, while calculating the costs, he planned to immediately divorce Brooke Osborne and squeeze some money out of her for treatment in a big city.

The River City Civil Affairs Bureau resumed operations on the eighth day of the first month, handling various marriage and divorce procedures.

Brooke Osborne and Gregory Quinn had only gotten their certificate, they hadn’t held a ceremony, lived together, or had children, so the property disputes were just about that house and the new furniture and appliances inside, nothing else.

And that house, after Brooke consulted a lawyer, was no longer a topic.

She had proof of purchase for the furniture and appliances, she could reclaim them.

According to the new marriage law, premarital property belonged solely to the individual, unrelated to the other party.

Similarly, her premarital debt also belonged solely to her.

That day the weather was quite gloomy, Brooke Osborne wrapped her face with a large scarf, sneaking into the Civil Affairs Bureau lobby like a thief, finding Gregory Quinn waiting inside.

Gregory Quinn dressed up a bit today, wearing a brand-new suit, arrogantly glanced at Brooke Osborne, disdainful of her timid demeanor.

Hands behind his back, he spoke pompously, ”Director Brooke, is this how you look because you’re afraid of being seen? Is divorcing me, Gregory Quinn, such a disgrace to you?”

Brooke Osborne glanced at him, still daring to be angry but not to speak.

She only said softly, ”My brother is waiting outside.”

Gregory Quinn was a bit afraid of Kenneth Osborne, he could only glare at Brooke Osborne, saying, ”Then don’t dawdle, let’s finish the paperwork quickly.”

The two went to the divorce counter, said a few words to the staff inside.

The staff wanted them to wait thirty days for a cooling-off period before handling the divorce.

Gregory Quinn thought, wait another thirty days, Grace Day’s belly won’t be able to hide anymore.

He quickly shook his head, ”No need to wait, we’ve been separated for half a year.”

Brooke Osborne nodded with a blank face, ”Yes, please proceed with the divorce paperwork quickly.”

The staff inside stopped persuading, checked their household register, IDs, and marriage certificates, then had them sign the ”Application for Divorce Registration Statement.”

Then they canceled the marriage certificate and issued each of them a divorce certificate, officially ending the marriage.

Within an hour, the procedures were completed, the two walked out of the Civil Affairs Bureau.

Gregory Quinn still squinted his eyes with a smile, saying softly to Brooke Osborne, ”Don’t worry, I won’t abandon you...”

”Don’t be too outrageous!” Brooke Osborne was sickened by him, the fear of being ”controlled” by Gregory Quinn over the years seemed to be slowly relieved with the arrival of the divorce certificate.

She now looked at Gregory Quinn with disgust, wondering how blind she was at first to have chosen someone like him?

But she also knew, when they first started dating, Gregory Quinn wasn’t like this.

He was incredibly thoughtful, gentle, considering everything for her, making her, someone who hadn’t received much love since childhood, fall right in.

When she finally realized there was a problem, she was already ”neck deep in mire.”

Thinking of these seven years, Brooke Osborne sighed, thankfully she woke up.

”I’m outrageous? A night as a married couple worth a hundred days of grace, are you so heartless?” Gregory Quinn said meaningfully, still wanting to lean in and hold Brooke Osborne’s shoulder.

Brooke Osborne quickly stepped away, opened the car door parked by the roadside, and swiftly got inside, slamming the door shut.

Kenneth Osborne inside the car turned his head, gave Gregory Quinn a cold glance, then hit the gas, speeding off quickly.
