Chapter 1771: Chapter 1772: No Wonder You Recognized Us

An Jing pulled Xiao Changyi to a corner and ensured no one could hear her and her husband talking before she told him about the potential danger Shi Shi might be in.

After listening, Xiao Changyi asked, ”What do you plan to do?”

An Jing lowered her voice and said, ”I plan to ask Gong Juechen to have Slayer Tower investigate, see if they can find out where she is.”

Xiao Changyi disagreed, ”Using the power of Slayer Tower for a single Shi Shi is inappropriate.”

”Shi Shi is a soldier I personally brought out. Even if you don’t consider that, consider the loyalty of the Qi Family to Xiyun. Can we help with this favor?”

Not waiting for Xiao Changyi to speak again, An Jing continued, ”I know what you’re worried about. You’re worried that Slayer Tower will be implicated and harmed, disrupting the hard-won peace. But if we just have Slayer Tower secretly investigate and inform us once they have news, which we can then tell Qi Weimeng, it shouldn’t be an issue as Slayer Tower won’t be exposed to Qi Weimeng.”

Seeing An Jing had put it this way, Xiao Changyi nodded, ”Then let Slayer Tower help with the investigation.”

An Jing became troubled, ”But there’s a problem. It’s always Slayer Tower who finds us. We’ve never sought them out. Moreover, we can’t contact Gong Juechen. How can we have Slayer Tower help us investigate?”

Xiao Changyi was silent for a while before saying, ”Isn’t Nuan Huan Pavilion part of Slayer Tower? We can go there.”

An Jing was reluctant to enter a brothel, but there was no other way. ”Alright then, I’ll disguise myself as a man and go with you tonight.”

”Alright.”

...

Nuan Huan Pavilion also moved from the Imperial Capital to the Imperial City.

It was because Nuan Huan Pavilion was very profitable.

High officials and wealthy merchants of the Capital had moved to the Imperial City, so naturally, they needed to move too, continuing to make big money.

That night, Xiao Changyi, An Jing, and Meng Zhuqing entered Nuan Huan Pavilion. As An Jing had mentioned during the day, she was disguised as a man.

Upon entering Nuan Huan Pavilion, Meng Zhuqing took out a silver note and handed it to the young servant inside, ”We want to see your Old Mama here.”

The young servant immediately beamed, accepting the silver note, ”Please wait a moment. I will go invite our Mama to meet you.”

The Old Mama came quickly.

Before the Old Mama could speak, An Jing quietly said three words to her, ”Gong Juechen.”

The Old Mama paused, then, with practiced ease and a heavy scent, waved her perfumed handkerchief at An Jing, her face filled with the trademark smile of an Old Mama, ”So you three distinguished guests wish to see Peony. In that case, please follow me.”

Knowing this was just an excuse by the Old Mama to avoid suspicion, An Jing and the others did not argue foolishly but followed the Old Mama upstairs and into her room.

Once the door was closed, the Old Mama asked with a smile, ”What brings the King and Queen here?”

An Jing was somewhat surprised, ”You know who we are?”

The Old Mama replied, ”Before the Building Master left the Imperial Capital, he instructed that if anyone came looking for me and mentioned his name, they must be people of the King. Although the Queen is dressed as a man, she has ear holes, and I’ve seen proclamations seeking the Queen, so I know her appearance.”

An Jing nodded, ”No wonder you recognized us.”

After a pause, An Jing said, ”I’m here to ask you to pass a message to your Building Master. Please tell him we’d like him to help find someone’s whereabouts.”

”Who are you looking for?”

”Shi Shi, wife of General Qi Weimeng.”
