Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1754: Chapter 1755: Truly Speaks to Her Heart

The imperial examination is the best way out for children from humble families. Passing it brings glory for life. However, An Yiyun is the son of the King of Xiyun, the Fourth Prince of Xiyun. As a member of the Royal Family, equivalent to the imperial family, he is naturally extraordinary and has no need to take the imperial examination. If he wishes to be an official, just a word from Xiao Changyi or Su Chengyu would suffice.

Throughout history, no member of royalty has ever participated in the imperial examination here.

If An Yiyun participates, he would be the first.

An Jing had previously heard that An Yiyun wanted to take the imperial examination. The child has this ambition, and she naturally wouldn’t stop him, but: ”Yun Er, can’t we wait for a few years? You’re not even nine yet...”

Once he passes the provincial test, he would be considered a Scholar, gaining the title of Scholar.

But the problem is, she worries that her child, being so young, might not pass. It’s known that some people even in their seventies or eighties are still trying to become Scholars. And if he fails, she fears it might hurt her child’s enthusiasm.

These ancient imperial exams are much harder than the modern college entrance exams.

”Mother, are you worried I won’t pass? But the Grand Tutor said I will definitely pass.”

”Did the Grand Tutor really say that?” An Jing was a bit skeptical.

”Yes, Mother, the Grand Tutor said Fourth Brother will definitely pass.” An Yiqing testified with a grin.

An Jing looked at Su Yi Jing.

Su Yi Jing nodded.

An Jing then believed, ”Since you’ve already registered, then go ahead and take the exam. But Yun Er, you’re frail, don’t let your studies worsen your health. Our family doesn’t really need anyone to take the imperial examination.”

An Yiyun smiled gently, ”Mother, don’t worry, I’ll take care of my health.” After a pause, ”I know I don’t need to take the imperial examination, but I want to prove myself, to achieve something without relying on the family, without relying on my status as a Prince.”

”Such ambition!” An Jing praised, beaming. Her son’s words truly touched her heart.

Even in Xiao Changyi’s cold eyes, there was a hint of a smile. Evidently, he was extremely pleased with his son’s attitude.

On March 15, An Yiyun participated in the provincial test.

On March 30, the results were released.

On this day, anxiously anticipating An Yiyun’s results, An Jing was more nervous than An Yiyun himself, pacing back and forth at the gate of the Xiyun mansion, frequently looking toward the road, visibly anxious.

An Yiyun himself wasn’t nervous at all and even reassured An Jing, ”Mother, I’ll definitely pass. Didn’t I already tell you on the day I finished the exam that the paper was very simple?”

An Jing knew An Yiyun wasn’t one to boast, but she just couldn’t control herself. This was her son’s exam results they were waiting for! She truly couldn’t help herself.

When she checked her own college entrance results back then, she wasn’t this nervous or anxious.

Xiao Changyi didn’t advise An Jing to stop pacing and instead poured a cup of tea, handed it to An Jing, and let her drink.

After An Jing finished, she handed the teacup back to Xiao Changyi.

Xiao Changyi naturally took it back and asked, ”Would you like more?”

”No.” An Jing continued pacing.

Xiao Changyi did not pour more tea for An Jing this time but instead joined An Yiqing and the others in playing with the three beautiful baby girls.

After three months of recuperation, Xiao Changyi had regained weight and returned to his usual healthy self.

However, he still didn’t eat much at each meal.

After pacing anxiously for a while longer, An Jing heard the sound of horse hooves and immediately looked toward the road again.

Soon, Qin Er appeared at the crossroads, riding a horse.

As soon as Qin Er saw An Jing and the others, even before reaching them, he loudly announced the good news, ”King, Queen, the Fourth Prince passed! And he came first!”
