Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1763: Chapter 1764: She Really Tried Her Best

This is the prevailing custom here: the eldest brother is like a father. The eldest brother means taking up the family responsibilities, taking care of younger siblings, and bearing more duties.

No wonder An Yiqing thinks this way.

An Jing smiled and patted An Yiqing’s head, ”Go and see your godmother later. With you defending her like this, she will be very happy to see you.”

”Okay!” An Yiqing nodded immediately.

An Jing continued, ”If something like this happens again in the future, come back and tell your father and mother. Your father and mother are still young and can handle these matters. Once we’re too old to protect you, then you can protect us.”

”No!” An Yiqing refused immediately. ”I’ve grown up now; I can protect you all. I don’t want you to worry anymore. I want you to enjoy life now.”

An Jing was even more gratified. Whether he can achieve it or not, she was happy that her son had this intention.

Xiao Changyi, however, saw it more openly and said to An Jing, ”The child has this intention, so let him be. Our children won’t do anything reckless; they have their own sense.”

An Jing also knew that their children’s nature wasn’t bad, so she smiled and nodded, indicating to let An Yiqing do as he wished.

...

Tobanya once angered Meng Zhuqing by suggesting he take a concubine since she couldn’t have children. In the end, she reconciled with Meng Zhuqing and promised him that she would no longer harbor resentment over her infertility.

She tried hard not to be bothered.

But now, it seemed as though the wound was torn open again. Tobanya realized she truly couldn’t be completely indifferent about being unable to bear children, especially when referred to as a chicken that can’t lay eggs.

With An Yiqing, her godson, defending her so much, Tobanya was genuinely touched and happy. So, when An Yiqing came to find her, the cold Tobanya couldn’t hold back and ended up crying in An Yiqing’s arms.

It really made Meng Zhuqing feel distressed.

An Yiqing was also anxious and comforted Tobanya for a long time before she managed to force a smile.

In the following days, Tobanya was just putting on a brave face. Being called a chicken that can’t lay eggs not only reopened her wounds, but it also felt like salt was being sprinkled on them.

Despite this, she didn’t revisit the idea of asking Meng Zhuqing to take a concubine. She just felt uneasy.

She dearly wished to give Meng Zhuqing a child.

She dearly wished to be able to have a child herself.

Seeing Tobanya appear melancholy for several days in a row, An Jing, who had been trying to avoid adding salt to Tobanya’s wounds, finally couldn’t hold back. That night, she went to the courtyard where Tobanya lived.

The courtyard had a pavilion with tables and chairs placed inside.

The stars were sparse in the sky under the bright moon.

An Jing took Tobanya to sit in the pavilion. Without releasing Tobanya’s hand, she continued holding it, gently patting it to comfort her, ”I know you’re feeling sad, but you don’t want this either. We consider you family, and seeing you like this makes us feel bad too, especially Meng Zhuqing; he feels even worse seeing you this way.”

Under the cold moonlight, Tobanya’s exquisite face appeared even colder. After a while, she finally spoke, her voice somewhat choked, ”I’ve tried to, but I really can’t not care.”

”I understand,” An Jing nodded. ”But a happy day is still a day, and an unhappy day is also a day. Why not live each day happily?”
