Chapter 298: Chapter 298: 99th Army, Follow My Command

Boom, boom, boom...

The city gate slammed shut, and although the knights outside were still relentlessly charging at it, all they could hear was the heavy thud of impacts.

Of course, there were also the sounds of hooves, screams of agony, and roars of anger.

”Haha, 99th Army, tonight you will submit to me,”

”I, Lan Zhuanghe, am determined to wash away my previous disgrace!”

Lan Zhuanghe laughed incessantly, but the next instant, he shuddered abruptly and turned around in shock, then stared dumbfounded.

What the hell, why is the city gate closed?

Immediately after, shadows of the 99th Army’s Black-armored Soldiers started appearing around him.

There were at least ten thousand men, each holding a bow and arrow pointed at him, each face bearing a cold smile and killing intent.

Lan Zhuanghe gaped, looking back at the few hundred riders who followed him into the city.

Every single one of them was chilled to the bone!

No one knew how much time had passed, but the smugness on Lan Zhuanghe’s face had long since vanished without a trace, replaced only by a thunderous roar, ”Pan Zha, you motherfucker dare to betray me?”

Meanwhile, surrounded by hundreds of Black-armored Soldiers, Pan Zha ”thud” collapsed to the ground.

This moment, he was finished, completely finished.

Even if he had thousands of excuses, none could stand against Lan Zhuanghe’s furious shout; even his name was bellowed out loud!

In an instant, the Black-armored Soldiers, previously uncertain, now tightly clenched their fists with cracking sounds, staring intently at Pan Zha, their eyes aflame with fury.

At the same time, two Deputy Generals paid no attention to Lan Zhuanghe.

Instead, from the direction of the city gate, they quickly returned to the courtyard where Pan Zha and Sikong Jing were,

They looked angrily at Pan Zha, one of the Deputy Generals giving the order, ”Release Brother Sikong and his family at once.”

At that moment, Sikong Jing and the others were still surrounded. Hearing this, the Black-armored Soldiers immediately dispersed with a thunderous noise, each casting apologetic glances at Sikong Jing and his party; then they swarmed again, encircling Pan Zha.

Then, the second Deputy General from the Martial Arts Sect Realm shouted fiercely, ”Pan Zha, why?”

His eyes were bloodshot. He had campaigned with Pan Zha for decades, and yet Pan Zha had betrayed him in the end.

And if Pan Zha had succeeded in opening the city gate, the consequences would have been unthinkable.

General Ning’s and their hard-built 99th Army would be ruined, trampled ruthlessly under Lan Zhuanghe’s feet.

As glorious as it was when they stormed the 96th Legion Castle, it would be equally miserable afterwards.

Pan Zha, how could you bear this?

Suddenly, Pan Zha raised his head, sweeping a vicious glare towards everyone around him.

”Why? Because the 99th Army is just a reserve force.”

”I would never see the light of day if I stayed here, but Lan Zhuanghe is different, he has backing.”

”He could rise up quickly, and he even promised to elevate me to the Xuantian Five Realms, to make me a General.”

”All I have to do is bring down this trash from the Canglong Small Domain, just open the gates of the 99th Army Castle, and everything will be mine for the taking. Why would I stay here with Ning Jingjing in darkness?”

By the end, Pan Zha’s face twisted, spewing fury at Sikong Jing.

Suddenly, he pointed at Sikong Jing and said, ”Ning Jingjing is just a woman with no background. If she had been obedient, it would have been fine, but instead, she offended Lan Zhuanghe for the sake of this trash from the Canglong Small Domain and even offended Commander Yan,”

”I’d have to be fucking crazy to keep working for Ning Jingjing instead of betting big.”

As he spoke, Pan Zha glared at Sikong Jing, his teeth grinding together.

I was so close to success, so close—if it weren’t for Sikong Jing’s arrival if it weren’t for his viciously killing his own wife.

It was his suggestion that trapped Lan Zhuanghe, damn it!

Sikong Jing then walked out expressionlessly and said, ”In the end, you gambled away your woman and yourself.”

Those words twisted Pan Zha’s face into a ferocious snarl as he bellowed, ”Brat from Canglong Domain, don’t be smug. You can’t actually defeat Lan Zhuanghe, just like last time—what good is winning then?”

”With Commander Yan protecting Lan Zhuanghe, you’re only going to lose even more miserably, hahaha.”

Saying this, Pan Zha turned to the two Deputy Generals.

”It’s not too late to let me go now. Join me.”

”Rebel, huh? Ning Jingjing and that kid from Canglong Domain have nothing, and if you keep this up, they’ll only bring about your deaths.”

The Black-armored Soldiers became tense at these words, staring at the two Deputy Generals. Would they agree?

Suddenly, one of the Deputy Generals sighed and said, ”Alas, although it has been tough to get where we are, our blood is still hot.”

At these words, all the Black-armored Soldiers were massively shaken.

Sikong Jing’s eyes also revealed admiration. Not everyone was like Pan Zha.

The second Deputy General, with madness in his eyes, declared emphatically, ”Take Pan Zha with us. We shall have a proper talk with Lan Zhuanghe.”

Upon this command, the Black-armored Soldiers rushed forward and bound Pan Zha.

Pan Zha struggled fiercely and roared at the two Deputy Generals, ”You’ll surely regret this.”

But no one paid him any mind, and the crowd pushed him toward the direction of the city gates.

And Sikong Jing led Su Yuexi and the others as well, while at this moment, they could still hear Lan Zhuanghe’s frantic shouting.

”Pan Zha, I will kill your entire family, I will exterminate your nine generations.”

Lan Zhuanghe, watching himself being surrounded and falling into the 99th Army’s trap, continued to roar in rage.

He still thought that this was Pan Zha’s treachery, that Pan Zha’s earlier apparent defection was a ruse.

And as Sikong Jing and the others were about to arrive, the first Deputy General suddenly said, ”Brother Sikong, from here on it’s up to you to negotiate and confront Lan Zhuanghe. We will all listen to you.”

At these words, Sikong Jing was taken aback and frowned, ”This doesn’t seem right.”

After all, he wasn’t even in the Long Night Black Burning Army’s military roster.

The second Deputy General then gave a bitter smile and said, ”General Ning isn’t in the castle, and truthfully, we are not cut out for leadership roles. Just think of it as us not knowing how to face Lan Zhuanghe.”

Including Pan Zha, all three Deputy Generals of the 99th Army were middle-aged men.

They were sent by the Long Night Black Burning Army to assist the young Ning Jingjing.

Having spent so many years in the Black Burning Army without being able to become Generals, they clearly lacked the ability, and now with Pan Zha’s betrayal, the two Deputy Generals really lacked a backbone.

While Sikong Jing’s previous infiltration of the 96th Legion’s castle and his accurate judgments just then were witnessed by all.

More importantly, Sikong Jing had managed to repel Pan Zha with a single punch - both in terms of calm judgment and martial prowess, he had proven himself worthy to be the backbone of the 99th Army.

Of course, there was also Sikong Jing’s own aura, the aura of a leader born to command.

This was something honed through many years of warfare, easily winning people over!

Considering this, Sikong Jing pondered for a moment, then suddenly turned towards the two Deputy Generals and all the Black-armored Soldiers and said, ”If it’s left to me, then things might get messy. I want not just Lan Zhuanghe’s life, I also want to strike back into the 96th Legion’s castle.”

At these words, all the Black-armored Soldiers of the 99th Legion were deeply stirred.

And then, one by one, their blood began to boil, and they clenched their fists tightly.

Suddenly, the two Deputy Generals, in a burst of impulse, shouted almost simultaneously, ”We, are willing to follow Brother Sikong’s command!”
