Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1501: Chapter 79: What Does Alexis Want?

Prince Alexis quickly agreed to Lucimar’s invitation.

Originally, he was also trying to find a way to move into the city.

He really didn’t want to continue being neighbors with Prince Scaret, who stood on the mast with a telescope every day watching the commotion.

That guy who seems to thrive on chaos, no one knows what he might do... If someone really ambushes him, Alexis wouldn’t doubt that the guy might help his enemy take him down.

Besides, if given the chance to kill an enemy prince without prompting a war, Alexis thought even he wouldn’t be able to resist.

Unfortunately, Count Stelter didn’t take the bait at all.

Initially, Alexis had no designs on Ellie... There’s no point in considering a beautiful future when personal safety isn’t assured.

But that girl, who dared to stroll alone in the city at such dangerous times, was too conspicuous... so conspicuous it was almost blinding.

A Level 5 Mage probably wouldn’t have such a calm and fearless attitude.

However, Ellie, with her Wind Elemental Creature that could instantly perform Flight Art and the ability to seek help from the Great Sage’s house at any time, indeed had nothing to fear.

Then Alexis had a thought: If Ellie had even half the temperament of Countess Stelter, marrying her would be a huge gain!

Prince Danboro, with his pride, wouldn’t choose a wife for external conditions, but Ellie’s internal qualities were also excellent!

Except for being a bit silly... the kind of silliness that stems from being naive and spoiled, which can be remedied.

If Ellie’s temper was like Lind’s, he definitely wouldn’t entertain the idea.

Fortunately, Lind was the mutant.

But, the problem with this goodness is that... it’s good to the point where it won’t be swayed by his status.

At first, Alexis didn’t think much of it either. A man of marriageable age, when seeing a perfect marriage prospect, would naturally want to show some attentiveness.

What if he actually managed to snag this catch!

But he hadn’t anticipated that the Wind Elemental Creature seemed to be more than just a regular Elemental Fairy.

It was nothing like the little creature with little intelligence by Great Sage Ismael’s side.

Standing on the rooftop sky terrace of his new home, Alexis clenched his fists silently... unsure if this was his opportunity, but he did need to seize everything that could be grasped.

But first, he had to confirm that this wind wasn’t blowing in from the sea.

He glanced at the elusive Great Sage’s residence next door, then turned to look at the port.

After hesitating for a while, he cast his gaze on the Moon Clan members who had finished their fight and bid farewell to some companions.

Hill discovered he had a strange neighbor on the third day after Prince Danboro moved in.

He hadn’t paid much attention to the house diagonally across the street, in front of his own, but he couldn’t resist observing the only one in Basia City brave enough to interact with the Moon Clan.

Only then did he realize that Lucimar and Alexis actually lived there.

Of course, Alexis was accompanied by several guards, an elderly female butler, and two little pages.

No wonder he wasn’t at all concerned about Lucimar’s reputation as a maid hunter.

Hill leaned on a cloud and watched as Prince Alexis, within just three days, went from a mere bystander watching the Moon Clan’s battles, to becoming friends with some of them in the King’s faction, and even brought them to apologize and compensate the ever-watching Ellie visiting the Hall of Abundance.

Everything seemed to fall into place smoothly.

Ellie, while not accepting the compensation from the Moon Clan, became much friendlier with them, even persuading them to move the battlefield outside the city... although the Moon Clan’s Resurrection Altars had been divided into different cities, none were too far away.

And since both sides reached Basia City at roughly the same time, this neutral city inevitably became a battlefield.

But compared to those cities with altars where the lords and officials constantly faced assassination attempts... and sometimes the Moon Clan would just boldly strike, Basia City was quite satisfied from top to bottom.

After all, as long as you didn’t go out, the Stelter Family’s mages and guards could still keep everyone alive.

Perhaps because the original city had more amusements to offer, while coming to Basia would require a journey of more than three days, and then they’d turn back, so the Moon Clan brought fewer people.

The real enemies, even when calling friends and allies, still ended up being those hundred or so steadfast individuals.

Listening to one disastrous news after another from neighboring cities, the people of Basia looked at their small skirmishes and had no complaints.

Especially since Miss Ellie had moved the battlefield outside the city!

Although Prince Alexis was the one orchestrating it, the one who accomplished it was indeed Miss Ellie!

For the first time, Count Stelter felt that he actually had a day when his reputation was so high... People of Basia had various lords, but they still had to pay taxes to the Count, and most of the time, they cursed him.

Hill silently watched the ebb and flow within Basia City; even the Earl seemed to sense something amiss. Since that day, Countess Stelter’s housekeeper had been trailing behind Ellie... hidden in the shadows.

Adding to this, there was Luximar who never left Alexis’s side, and an old man floating in from Scaret’s large ship by the coast. Luckily, those two youths were still in the friendship stage, speaking and acting politely; otherwise, it would truly be... awkward.

The Great Sage of Scaret, although unaware that Hill had been observing the spectacle from the Cloud Realm, dutifully sent a message to Hill’s villa after coming out.

The sea would never deceive its loyal followers; the old man never believed he could hide from Belfran’s eyes.

Hill, of course, had no interest in meddling in idle affairs.

He was now very intrigued by Aesces’s approach.

Actually, over the past few days, he came to realize one thing... If Crystal Energy Technology is like the steam or even electrical era of their world, then the resource wars brought about by the Age of Exploration, which rapidly changed the world, absolutely would not happen in Aesces.

Because with Scaret being the common enemy, coupled with self-sufficiency in most resources, and the perpetually mighty Danboro Kingdom led by the ever forward-thinking Ismael, the world is actually quite peaceful.

Even economic wars can’t be stirred up.

As long as Scaret doesn’t create disturbances, the world enters a superficial peace mode, where everyone lives through schemes and struggles.

Aesces is indifferent; as the consumption of Crystal Stones grows and deserts expand, these nations will inevitably find a new path—the key is patience.

Yet now, he saw an expressway that could swiftly accelerate things; fortunately, the losses aren’t beyond what he can endure.

Upon realizing the Moon Clan could be utilized, the traditional nobles ceased criticizing the Moon Clan’s reckless actions.

As long as they stand by their side, even a fool can be called a wolf; not to mention these ”fools” have considerable combat power!

Those cautiously observing Great Sage Ismael’s movements soon discovered that as long as the Moon Clan’s primary task of investigating the Mutated Silk Spider remained unaffected, he had no intention of stepping in.

The nobles could understand the silence of this Great Sage... Even a foolhardy king, like one fortunate and powerful as Ismael, is unleadable.

As long as the nobles don’t initiate assassination mode, the lives of Royal Family Members can be preserved; presumably, Great Sage Ismael’s silence will persist.

King of Danboro understood this too, thus, he immediately fortified the defenses of his underground hideout, randomly summoning a few insiders daily to issue commands.

Anyway, he possessed a Crystal Ball to contact the Moon Clan; whatever emergency arises, he could pay to have the Moon Clan informed.

Thus, their conflicts primarily consisted of battling through the Moon Clan... Assassinations still occurred, but no explicit orders were issued—only hints.

But the Moon Clan, rewarded with money and experience, knew what was happening.

Though Basia City seemed like a local network competition, elsewhere was already a deep-water turmoil.

If not for Count Stelter declaring not to accept any outsiders into Basia from the start, many would have long fled with their families to him.

Of course, this was because there were still places more suitable than Basia, at least without Moon Clan fights at the city gates.

Now, wealthy Danboro folks were relocating to small towns in remote corners.

Previously unable to afford silk, towns focusing on minerals were most favored.

Hill understood the cause and effect, yet genuinely hadn’t anticipated Aesces would still dare to play so large despite the immense threat of the Mutated Silk Spider.

How to put it... Although both being worlds with an Earth Attribute, Aesces is far more ruthless than Teraxil.

He couldn’t possibly ignore the consequences of failure... If Danboro erupts in Silk Spider chaos, wouldn’t other nations engaged with the Forest of the Elves also face it?

Moreover, the store owner from the window display taken away by Finch proved that several individuals had already fallen under the control of these Silk Spiders.

Such a complex situation, the possibility of failure is far from zero.

Hill felt that Aesces must have an ace in the hole to overturn the table.

Yet, at that point, how many humans would perish?

Even after being tempered by Toril, Hill had become more indifferent to life and death, but thinking of this outcome still somewhat shocked him.

Could it be, due to such ruthless decisions by Aesces, that the Power of Destiny sent Wendy and Eosca into Aesces?

Hill glanced again at Prince Alexis, smiling gently... his gaze, his smile, had long shifted focus from the silly Ellie.

Miss Stelter remained thoroughly satisfied with her non-romantic friendship with Prince Alexis, totally oblivious that he was striving to undermine her.

Prince Alexis acted very cautiously; generally, no one suspected that the Elemental Creature merely calling Ellie could have issues, leaving observers bewildered.

No one believed he only wanted to be friends with Ellie.

But, what exactly does he want?
