Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1492: Chapter 70: The Moon Clan Cannot Die

The eldest young master of the Stelter Family, unable to maintain his composed image when only family and friends were around: ”Damn bastard!

Using fire element spells to kill the thieves in the poor district where all the houses are wooden!

More than one person...

I really hid a loneliness, and fled together with all the people searching for me across the city!

Crashed into each other at the city gate!

If I hadn’t reacted quickly and struck first, how could I have been chased to my doorstep!”

”Great Sage Ismael, didn’t he say he would restrict them?” Helena clenched her fist and pursued... Although for now, Basia City hasn’t encountered any of these Moon Clan members, Deluca City is only a five-day ride away from Basia!

Even using one of those slower alloy carriages, it would only take 10 days to reach the borders of Basia!

Though most of this city is made of stone structures, but... doesn’t every household have some flowers and trees?

Not to mention, Basia also has a poor district!

That’s dozens of blocks of wooden houses!

Fortunately, the Stelter Family has always been kind to the poor, not only allowing them to go to the nearby mountains by the castle to cut down trees, but also letting them take scattered stones from the mountains... as long as they plant three times the number of trees they cut at the castle manager.

That’s why the houses of the poor in Basia City have stone-made ground floors and wooden second floors, since most of the poor have limited physical strength.

Initially, this approach was beneficial for both parties, the poor had homes, and the Stelter Family obtained the vegetation they wanted.

Using this method, they’ve practically replaced the nearby mountains with useful trees... not just fruit or oil palm trees, but also solid-rooted maple, camphor, and willow trees that can hold the soil.

This was common knowledge popularized by Great Sage Ismael.

Many of the nobles living halfway up the mountain were skeptical, but did as he said... and indeed reaped many benefits.

Not only did they not have to guard against the rocks rolling down from the nearby mountains every year, some families got lucky and gained two life-giving streams.

And with the advent of crystalline weapons, mages were less likely to cause trouble, and there was no need for no tall trees or buildings within a hundred miles of the castle.

That’s why families like the Stelter Family dare to choose regions like this for building their castles... Otherwise, if the two mountains next door were taller, it would’ve caused problems.

Of course, no tall trees are allowed in the area five kilometers from the castle, not even shrubs taller than a meter... But Great Sage Ismael provided plenty of quality pasture materials, though knights like the Earl, riding horses with strong bloodlines, prefer meat, normal cavalry horses still mostly eat grass.

So, around Stelter Castle, ryegrass, sweet grass, and imperial bamboo grass are planted.

Yet the situation in Deluca City had become intolerable for the Countess... Compared to Basia City with mostly stone buildings, the Stelter Family had more flammable areas, like their oil palm plantation.

That would be a devastating loss if something went wrong, beyond salvation.

Unless Triton intervenes.

Helena abruptly opened the window, pointing towards the castle: ”Our family has worked for decades to build our home to its current state... Do we have to watch as it’s indiscriminately burned by these flames?”

Count Stelter, who was silent, squeezed her shoulder: ”Helena, calm down.

Ditte, haven’t you mentioned Great Sage Ismael’s restrictions on them?”

”They cannot initiate against the Danboro people unless it’s a confirmed enemy.”

”How to confirm?”

”Those who actively strike against the Moon Clan and provide evidence to a council set up by the Great Sage to identify enemies.”

After Ditte finished speaking, he sighed with a helpless smile: ”Even though I’m angry, I can’t say much!

They simply disregard the lives of the poor, but... the real villains are those spies and assassins using the lives of tens of thousands in the poor districts as shields.

What they didn’t anticipate was that these people’s eyes could lock onto enemies... and they completely disregard ordinary lives.

So, those Moon Clan members, chasing after a few who dared attack them, charged into the poor districts and recklessly threw fireball techniques.

The slums of Deluca City are mostly made of straw houses.

Alas!

In the past... even the most arrogant knight corps restrained their lethal force when facing poor districts, no one anticipated...

That the visitors from the compassionate Great Sage Ismael’s homeland would be like this.”

”A figure like Great Sage Ismael, even in his homeland, shouldn’t be a mere ordinary person.” Yanos muttered, puzzled.

Ditte was surprised, realizing there was an additional mage in the family’s core circle... Oh, right, Ellie and Lind’s teacher.

”Ditte, it’s your first time meeting Mr. Yanos, greet him quickly.” Helena responded, remembering she hadn’t properly introduced Ditte and Yanos.

”Ah... I was so rude.” Ditte hurriedly stood up, ”Mr. Yanos...”

”Sit down! What’s the point of etiquette at a time like this!

Besides, the wounded should take it easy.” Yanos gestured for Ditte to sit, and asked seriously, ”I just want to know, is the Moon Clan’s level still at level 5?”

”Yes.” Ditte quickly replied, ”I’ve heard that level 5 is a threshold for them, making further advancement very difficult.

In particular, to progress to level 10, they must complete a major mission first.”

”What mission? Mutated Silk Spiders?” Ellie immediately asked.

”Yes.” Ditte answered, ”It’s said that only by clearing 80% of the mutated silk spiders in Danboro City can they have the chance to advance to the next level.

Otherwise, they’ll always remain at the ninth level.”

”But... can Great Sage Ismael verify the number of mutated silk spiders?”

”How could he? The silk spiders weren’t bred by him.” Yanos let out a couple of quick laughs, ”But someone can! At least by calculating the ratio, it should be doable.”

”Is he not hiding his status as acting grand sage at all anymore?” Ted asked cautiously, ”So if Great Sage Ismael really wants us in Basia City to also initiate the Moon Clan’s summoning, would our refusal cause a backlash?”

”In some aspects, Aesces is still fair.” Yanos said firmly, ”You get back what you put in, but if you don’t contribute, you’ll just watch others bask in glory.

Otherwise, how could someone like Delgado live so extravagantly?

He’s given Great Sage Ismael more trouble than the entire Finch family combined.”

”But, it hasn’t been long since he came from Deluca to us!” Lind softly said, ”So why must we offend a great sage?”

”My dear brother, so you do know a great sage shouldn’t be provoked?” Ellie turned her head to look at Lind, who was crouching in the corner, hiding behind the floor-to-ceiling window’s burlap curtain with only his head exposed.

Ditte sighed helplessly, ”Lind... forget it, your matters can wait for later.

Right now, we have more important things to focus on.

But don’t think it’s all in the past, understand?

My little brother, I really think you’re living too boring a life, huh~ life needs a little excitement to be more thrilling.”

The members of the Stelter Family didn’t interrupt this long lecture from the elder brother to the imprudent younger brother, not even Yanos, who was responsible for tutoring Lind, spoke up.

Ditte looked unconcerned, ”We absolutely cannot open this door.

The Moon Clan will not die.”

”What? Are you sure you saw it correctly?” Everyone jumped up in surprise.

”Their bodies are made of energy! As long as the energy that dissipates due to death is recovered in time, the loss isn’t significant.” Ditte exhaled deeply, ”I also heard someone say that those Moon Clan members who were assassinated or accidentally died could still appear from the array that summoned them, so I went to investigate.

It’s true.

The eldest son of the Ishmael Household also admitted it.”

”So, if Basia brings in 10,000 people, no matter what they do, the number won’t change?” Joshua shivered, ”Even if they burn down the whole city, they won’t die... it doesn’t matter, right? They can’t die, correct?

Then... what are we supposed to do?”

”So, Brother Ditte, you encountered those who were tracking you because you were seeking the truth and collided with them, right?” Ellie tilted her head, sharply pointing out the flaw in her brother’s story, ”How could you take such risks?

This kind of thing can be figured out in a couple of days!

How can such news be kept secret!”

Ditte shook his head, ”I worry Father might, due to past thoughts, feel that since Deluca City opened the summoning array, Basia City could too.

It’s good to know earlier.”

Helena coldly looked at Count Stelter, ”Look at you, even a child couldn’t be fooled by your little thoughts!”

Count Stelter gave an awkward laugh, ”I, how could I do something so impulsive?”

Ditte tugged at the sleeve of Helena who was beside him, ”Mother!”

Helena patted his bandaged head, shaking her head and giving up on pursuing the count.

”When I left Deluca City, it was said that Great Sage Ismael was already planning to impose some restrictions on the Moon Clan’s behavior.” Ditte suddenly recalled, ”It seemed that if the Moon Clan’s casting spells in the city implicated ordinary people, there would be consequences.”

”So, the later the Moon Clan appears, the better?” Ellie blinked, looking puzzled.

Count Stelter glanced at her, ”The mutated silk spiders in Basia all headed for the Alchemist Association, of course, it would be best if they didn’t appear.”
