Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1455: Chapter 33: The Notes That Seemed Familiar to Hill

Ellie opened the book box and took out a few manuals with golden covers that looked very ancient... Each page inside was a thin alloy sheet... Afterward, she opened her mouth with a sweet smile: ”Mr. Belfran, these are ancient alchemical notes collected by our family long ago. Are you interested?”

To show her sincerity, Ellie opened a page from each book casually.

Hill glanced at them casually, his eyes suddenly froze for a second, and then he asked with great interest: ”Where did these come from?

They seem a bit like elemental runes? Current alchemy...”

He looked pensive and interrupted his own words.

Ellie promptly responded: ”Yes, modern alchemy runes are very different from this!

No one in our family has the ability to understand them.

Although I’ve learned quite a bit about runes, it was all self-taught from reference books, so I can only recognize a few simple runes that aren’t very different.”

Hill smiled and grabbed a book, flipping through two pages casually: ”Although these contain some outdated alchemy records, the analysis of various materials still has its own unique ideas!

I do want to see them; is the Stelter Family planning to...”

Ellie took out a nearly thirty-centimeter thick leather book from the book box: ”This is a reference book given to our official apprentices by the Alchemist Association. Of course, it might mean nothing to you, but for me, there are many things in it that I can’t understand.

I dare not ask you to teach me like an official apprentice, but can you teach me the shared alchemical formulas from this set of notes and the manuals?”

Ellie stood up and bowed respectfully: ”Please give this alchemy apprentice, who has no way out, a chance!

I genuinely love alchemy.”

Hill looked at the metal book for a moment and smiled slightly: ”I will give you a translated set of manuals.”

Ellie’s face turned pale instantly, and her bright red lips dulled as she clutched the sides of her robe tightly, two noticeable wrinkles appearing on the beautiful blue silk dress.

”From now on, come to me every other afternoon at one o’clock... You should have a basic alchemy teacher, right?

Start from the day you can recite the meanings of runes backward.”

Ellie opened her mouth in surprise, then quickly raised her hands to cover her mouth, her eyes smiling into a narrow slit... There seemed to be a green glow shining inside that narrow space.

Hill could not help but smile; the girl’s joy and excitement seemed to be quite contagious.

How strange, how could she not be a magician?

So charming... It’s not about her looks, but a natural air that makes people recognize her and want to be around her.

When Hill goes out, he’s easily accepted... For example, when buying things, most merchants would voluntarily bring out their best goods.

Very few would shout out exorbitant prices to him.

At most, they would not lower the price.

Ellie has this aura; Count Stelter letting her run the trading company is maximizing talents.

”Mr. Belfran—teacher, I will definitely study hard!” Ellie tried her best to hold back from shouting but her tone exuded a vow-like determination, her little fists seemed to make a sound as they clenched, ”I will go back and review the runes well... The day after tomorrow! Me!”

”Three days from now!” Hill interrupted the overly excited young girl, ”I also need time to look at these books.”

”Ah... oh, alright, I understand!” Ellie spoke with sudden realization, feeling she needed to calm down, lest her excitement leads her to say something out of place, ”Then I’ll take my leave, Mr. Belfran Teacher? May I... call you that?”

Hill gently nodded, not minding the girl’s unusual term from calling him teacher.

He had long anticipated he might have to bear this burden; he didn’t really care either... To be honest, if someone dared to find fault with him over such a matter, rather than for revealing his wealthy aura, Hill would act confidently, without leaving any mercy.

He actually knows he can sometimes be quite hateful.

However, for these notes, Hill feels it’s worth any burden.

Watching Ellie’s almost skipping departure, Hill smiled... Comparing to the restraints in Toril, in this world, Hill can act according to his own wishes.

His long golden eyelashes gently fluttered, and the bits of sunlight through the window seemed to dance on those long and dense lashes, making it impossible for Ellie, who involuntarily turned her head against the wall, to see Mr. Belfran’s expression clearly.

Ellie left happily with a hint of hesitation and anxiety, passing through the rapidly rising walls she had entered... Her purpose here was accomplished perfectly, but for some reason, she felt a bit uneasy inside.

Perhaps, it’s because she’s been feeling guilty lately? So even with her parents’ full support, she always felt hollow.

But at that moment... Ellie didn’t regret her actions. When she thought she had to choose between marrying a useless prince or ending her path as a mage forever, of course she would think of herself!

Turning to glance at the marble wall that was white with a bluish glow, then looking up at the azure sky, Ellie Stelter turned and walked toward her carriage.

Her little black horse seemed to sense her mood, trotting briskly, the rhythm of its four hooves on the stone road was just like the heartbeat she felt at this moment.

Ellie clenched her fist, quietly recalling her actions over the past time... No problem, she merely gave some hints to the other party without doing anything outrageous.

Besides, she hadn’t planned to do much... just wanted, when the prince from the Royal Capital, who only wanted a wealthy wife to live a lazy life, arrived, to create a very noticeable competitor for him.

That day, when Lind quietly congratulated her, speaking clearly about the dowry Helena had secretly prepared for her, Ellie understood... Prince Danborona, who had no hope of inheriting the throne, didn’t take her seriously, he was only interested in her mother’s privately promised wealth.

The Stelter Family in Basia City was not living easily, but they had indeed made quite a profit.

Clearly, only when the money was in place would the other side be willing to marry her... This was not dowry!

Things not written on the surface, once they reached the other party’s castle, belonged to them!

Perhaps Helena didn’t mind, after all, Ellie owned the Hall of Abundance.

The Earl had said from the beginning that this Hall of Abundance was her dowry, and what kind of life she could lead depended only on herself.

Just like her brother Ditte, the Earl gave him a platform to showcase his talents, but how far he could go depended on Ditte’s own efforts... It’s just that his efforts can be seen 120% by others.

If it weren’t for the support of Count Stelter as his father, it wouldn’t be so easy to climb high in the current Danboro Army.

200% effort might yield 20% of the outcome, if he had a good supervisor... Sometimes, the more diligent, the more painful it becomes.

And as the eldest daughter, she had early ownership of a super commerce with attached fleet, which showed the Earl’s fondness for her.

Of course, this was also because she had hope of becoming a mage, otherwise, the Earl wouldn’t grant that much dowry to a daughter who might marry, that would be like gifting outsiders... Although other daughters of different families got similar assets, these girls must swear never to give up their surname nor leave the family, almost equivalent to a vow not to marry!

The Earl wanted to keep her within the family, but didn’t intend to make her give up part of her future; he just asked her to guard the family in the future.

Ellie’s parents truly loved her, so she didn’t want to break with her parents over these trifles... Even heartless Lind knew the secret, how could the Earl not know?

Ellie had always been decisive, so she found a competitor strong enough to make the prince dare not fail.

If a Prince Danborona were to lose to Prince Scaret, who visited and fell for Miss Stelter, competing for Ellie’s favor, he wouldn’t even dream of continuing his idle life upon returning to the Royal Capital!

Ellie didn’t even need to show approval of Prince Scaret, she only needed to show her intent to reject Prince Danborona.

Then, everyone would understand, it’s not that she can’t choose Prince Scaret, but rather doesn’t want to.

Although this approach might make her a shelfed item in the marriage market, it’s far better than bringing the family an obnoxious glutton!

The carriage stopped.

”Ellie!” A lively young voice called, the carriage door opened from the outside, and the cute, innocent Lind poked his head inside, ”How did it go? Did you succeed?”

Ellie gave her brother a big smile, leaned over to hug him: ”Of course!

Oh~ dear Lind~

Looks like I won’t need anything aside from the Hall of Abundance for a while!”

Lind tilted his head: ”Huh? What are you talking about? Don’t you need to buy plenty of magic material? Father and mother are digging through the warehouse now!”

Ellie’s green eyes sparkled: ”Ah! That too!

But if I can craft magical items, I’ll definitely make a moving little deer for Lind!”

Lind pouted: ”No way! I’ve grown up, now I like cheetahs!”

The siblings bantered as they walked into the castle.

Meanwhile, Hill touched his pendant, diving into some past memories... The content of these notes wasn’t important... He indeed hadn’t read them, but wouldn’t be unable to understand.

Still, the patterns on these metallic leaf pages used as book pages, seemed quite familiar!
