Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Capítulo 1491: Chapter 69: The Moon Clan Sets Fire to the City

Ellie Sterl, who was dumping trash in the deep sea, moved her ears slightly.

She turned her head towards the direction of Basia City and asked the two mages hired by the Stelter family beside her, “Did you hear anything?

Has something happened in Basia City?”

“Ellie.” One mage calmly poured from the large barrel in his hand… Although it looked only as tall as a person, the contents had been pouring for a full half hour. The only problem with this thing was its weight, “Your hearing has been enhanced by the Wind Elemental Creature, much stronger than ordinary mages.

If even you couldn’t confirm the sound, how could we hear it?”

Ellie frowned deeply, “Forget it, let’s hurry up and get back quickly!”

“Ellie, Ellie!” Wendy, who had been sitting on her shoulder, suddenly shouted and grabbed her long hair.

“Hmm?” Domineered to turn around, Ellie shouted, “Something’s happened! That’s the thunder! And the power of the Silvermoon.

Damn it, hurry back to the castle!”

The other two mages frantically swung the large barrels in their hands… they weren’t entirely unable to speed up, but for mages, it was extremely painful. After finishing, their hands were sore enough to make them question life.

Quickly finishing the work, Ellie softly said, “Wendy, please!”

The petite Wind Elemental Spirit fluttered her wings and flew up, waving the small magic wand in her hand. Instantly, a whirlwind appeared around the three mages… doubling their flying speed.

Because Wendy had just awakened, she hadn’t recovered to her best state, only able to use supportive spell-like abilities twelve times a day… Of course, this is what Ellie said to outsiders, she would surely conceal some more important factors, but roughly it wasn’t far off.

Anyway, to Ellie, Wendy’s existence mainly made her more intimate with the wind, almost consuming no mana while flying, and Wind Series attack spells only consumed a tenth as much as before… Now, as a regular mage, she could barely contend with mages two levels higher than herself, not to mention her strength after advancement.

Otherwise, Lind wouldn’t be breaking defenses yet again.

After all, it’s not as if Ellie was the only one with old items taken out from storage… Elven products were particularly exquisite, and many members of the Stelter family used those things as daily necessities.

However, there was no way to go shopping outside for a while, given their enemies were hidden so deeply.

So, Helena opened the storage, found some century-old furniture, especially metal ones.

Lind had some naturally as well.

And because of his past hobbies, everything in his room basically went into the firewood pile, and the gold and silver utensils were the most plentiful in his hands.

Then Ellie opened Wendy in a dressing box she had chosen.

To be honest, even a magnanimous unlucky person would break some defenses in front of a lucky one, not to mention the inherently narrow-minded Lind, who would certainly break major defenses!

Ellie could understand the feelings of her little brother, but her empathy was waning… yet what could she do?

As Lind said, all her success came from the family; accepting the family’s good meant enduring some minor issues it brought.

Ellie sighed softly, fortunately, Lind seemed a bit better… though he still couldn’t help but try to mess with her, there was a slight easing in attitude.

What more could she ask for?

Then she had no time to think about these messy things anymore, she naturally recognized where the alarm echoing throughout the city came from: “No! My Hall of Abundance!”

Ellie couldn’t wait for the two slower mages… Wendy on her shoulder, her beautiful transparent wings suddenly flashing with cyan light, Miss Stelter rushed to her business firm at the fastest speed.

However, by the time she arrived, Count Stelter was already commanding the guards to clean up the aftermath… Hill, though slightly controlled in strength, his moonlight power from the Magic Book seemed extraordinarily intimidating to the Silk Spiders, driving them all to charge outside the walls of the Alchemist Association, none willing to remain in the commercial district.

Mage’s Avenue no longer needed help… knowing there’s such a thing as Silk Spiders, this was the place prepared most thoroughly against them.

Even the extremely rare Moonlight Stones since the deities’ retreat was present in every home.

Thus, other than the primary attack target, the Alchemist Association, the other mage homes on this avenue were relatively safe.

And the Stelter’s small building neighboring Hill need not be mentioned.

Not a single spider claw was seen.

Even though there was a Crystal Fruit Tree in that yard there, it seemed more dreaded by the Silk Spiders than anywhere else, detouring from far away.

Nothing could be done, Hill could hardly endure the thought of spiders crawling on his home’s walls, thus exerting a bit more effort.

Just like when the commercial district faced trouble and no one helped, the disaster of the Alchemist Association could only be borne alone… The Earl’s only action was erecting metal isolation walls nearby as a symbolic gesture of the City Lord’s condolence.

But it seemed more like he pointed the spiders directly to the path.

By the time Ellie rushed back, the Earl and Joshua were standing in front of a huge stone building with a simple style, discussing why such a large vulnerability appeared.

After all, recently under the Earl’s pressure, despite reluctance, most shops had cleared their storefronts and warehouses.

Especially the shops selling handicrafts and clothing were almost all raided by the City Guard unless they signed the agreement to renounce the protection of Count Stelter.

The few that signed the agreement invariably bore the influence of noble clans… the Stelter Family focused primarily on these individuals.

However, the two upscale windowed buildings that also signed the agreement perfectly concealed themselves among them… most of their customers required anonymity, particularly the mages on the street next door, so Joshua wasn’t surprised that they chose to sign the agreement.

After they threw out a mountain of burning dresses and decorations, they stopped paying attention to them… Seriously, how could a man with a family show interest in the women in the window?

As a result, they were utterly humiliated.

“Every girl in those windowed buildings had been in business, including those two bosses.” Joshua murmured, “I haven’t patronized them, but… the City Guard…

just wondering if any customer had problems.”

“Impossible.” Count Stelter said sternly.

“Father?” Ellie, who already understood the backstory, looked up surprised.

“There are always many outsiders here.” The Earl frowned, “So, they have always been under our surveillance, it’s only likely to be those women.

Unfortunately, it’s still uncertain who actually died.”

It’s perfectly normal for Count Stelter to have people dedicated to handling espionage information.

Now?

Joshua quickly realized certain surveillance personnel must have been nearby at that time.

Probably left behind some footage.

He glanced at the gigantic stone house behind the count: “Should we temporarily relocate the civilians from the commercial street here?

Far more reassuring than a wooden house.”

What he said seemed simple, but his gaze veiled a request to the count, on how to handle if these merchants wished to enter the sanctuary.

“Of course, only those without any prospects, all others are strictly prohibited.

Anyone in need should seek assistance from the Temple!

My daughter dared to navigate through danger to plead for the blessings of the Goddess of the Silvermoon, didn’t I spend a fortune purchasing Holy Water?

They can’t? Resorting to fighting impoverished people for survival?

This is a grace bestowed by the Great Sage!” Count Stelter solemnly said, “And the Great Sage himself is so nearby… Joshua, have your most upright people stationed here.

If anyone dares cause trouble here, resolve it with utmost fairness… Evict the troublemaker directly!”

“Yes, My Lord.”

“Father!” Ellie, observing the stone house from the sky, suddenly shouted, “It’s Ditte!

Someone is chasing him!

Twenty kilometers outside the east gate!”

“Go tell your mother!” Count Stelter leapt onto his horse without hesitation, Joshua was briefly stunned, then quickly called out orders, rushing towards the east gate behind the already galloping count.

Ellie also dashed towards the temporary home on Mage’s Avenue at the fastest speed… Yanos, along with several mages, followed Ellie into the air within three minutes.

The response of the Stelter Family, thanks to Ellie’s keen observation, was much swifter, and the family members became quite abundant due to the unexpected aid from Great Sage Belfran… Thus, even though followers were severely injured, and even themselves were scarred, the heir of the Stelter Family still returned home alive.

Despite being slightly surprised by having to reside in a magic cottage, Ditte merely glanced around… He had more pressing matters to discuss: “Father! You didn’t agree to Great Sage Ismael’s request to summon the Moon Clan in Basia City, did you?”

“No.” The count, frowning while watching the skilled alchemist applying medicine and bandaging his eldest son, paused and asked, “Why? Is something wrong?”

“We discovered we were being tracked, and planned to hide in Deluca Market for a couple of days.” Ditte grimaced in pain, “Unexpectedly, that old Pablo Deluca chose to agree to the Moon Clan entering his city, not to mention allowing the Great Sage to summon ten thousand in Deluca City!”

“Ten thousand, should be fine, right?” The count asked hesitantly, “The Capital has a hundred thousand…”

“Fine my ass!” Ditte, having spent enough time among the military, paid no mind to the fact he was talking to his father, “A hundred thousand is a lot, but there’s a Great Sage!

Ten thousand sounds few, but Ismael the pampered elder with barely Level 10, can’t manage even a squat!

He’s likely incapable of controlling even a hundred!”

Ditte grumbled exasperatedly: “If I hadn’t reacted quickly, I’d have perished from the fire they set in the slums!”
