Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Capítulo 1457: Chapter 35: Hill Who Can Only Buy Handicrafts

Hill was pondering where to start when he noticed there were other things in the book box Ellie had placed on the table.

He picked it up and found it was the land deed for his temporary residence, along with unrestricted construction permission… Of course, Count Stelter humbly requested Hill not to exceed the castle’s watchtower height.

It was essentially a request for Hill not to build a Magic Tower.

That wasn’t a problem.

He hadn’t planned to build one anyway.

However, Hill thought these things would be sent over after he accepted Ellie’s request, but placing them in the book box without considering that Hill might refuse and directly sending them to him?

These items… just like Hill initially said, since Miss Stelter brought them under the guise of needing consultation where no one understood, Hill only needed to return them a modern translation text.

Based on her performance, Ellie seemed mentally prepared for this.

And according to convention, this land located in the central area, even in the mage’s residence, is actually Hill’s teaching fee.

If given to him today… Could it be that when Ellie returns, she would offer a reward more valuable than this piece of land?

The Stelter Family seemed to be too humble, and no matter how he thought about it, Hill felt something was off.

Count Stelter surely wouldn’t think he could make Hill serve as a family tutor, right?

Hill shook his head; the Earl appeared quite shrewd, grasping things nicely, so he shouldn’t be that foolish.

Besides, isn’t there Yanos as well?

Probably there is something that requires Hill to take a title; otherwise, the gift would seem a bit light.

The Alchemy knowledge from Aesces is indeed quite valuable due to the tacit monopoly by these mage nobility. To have Hill teach a student he hasn’t favored requires significant funds, not just a small amount.

Count Stelter likely couldn’t afford it… Unless it’s him personally wanting to learn Alchemy; otherwise, according to noble customs, even his heir wouldn’t have the right to exhaust most of the family’s resources.

If it’s merely taking a name, then it’s doable.

Hill glanced at the Galan notes on the table, smirking slightly… If the items were procured from Galan’s Magic Tower, he probably wouldn’t refuse.

He wondered if, although the true thoughts were written within these notebooks, Galan, with his chatty nature, might candidly leave some thoughts in many places.

Hill was quite curious to read it… truly, from Galan’s various comments about Teraxil’s All Gods, one could see he had some original insights.

Although somewhat biased, most were pretty accurate… For example, the Goddess of the Hunt’s brain isn’t as substantial as imagined, and praising her involves even sesame seeds.

Ambori wouldn’t be easily deceived by such a false man who has only a face left.

However, when Galan left Teraxil, the Goddess of the Hunt hadn’t had her maid give birth to the Elven God King’s child, right?

Hence, it’s somewhat understandable that he slightly overestimated the lady.

The three days passed swiftly, and Ellie soon appeared outside Hill’s residence with Lind carrying two enormous boxes.

She halted before the already present, intricately detailed metal gate… What’s entwined on the gate? Jasmine Flowers?

The scent was fresh and understated, even fainter than the jasmine flowers she was familiar with, only noticeable as she approached the gate.

The flowers resembled small windmills, white and immaculate, and when she alighted from the carriage, she thought the flowers were rotating in the wind!

However, maybe; after all, this Grand Mage’s Illusory Realm is quite powerful… its lethality also strong.

Thus far, those “accidentally entered” guests haven’t left a trace, not even discarded corpses.

Ellie always felt Finch’s side remained inactive because the identity of those trapped in must be problematic.

Earlier, she heard the Ismael household’s member entered with a heap of gifts, left rather displeased but not looking too gloomy.

It’s likely those people, especially those rushing in last, are still alive, and Mr. Belfran agreed not to kill them temporarily.

Ellie guided Lind toward the gate, a Windbell Grass hidden among the Jasmine Flower vines suddenly emerged, bearing tiny white flowers, delivering a somewhat wooden female voice: “Extend your right hand.”

Ellie’s long black lashes blinked; she removed her glove and raised her right hand.

The Windbell Grass coiled around her little finger, and upon leaving, left a delicate grass ring on her finger, with a tiny bellflower in the ring’s center.

Feeling inspired, she placed her right hand among the Jasmine Flower vines, and the metal gate swiftly opened inward.

Ellie was shocked and covered her mouth with both hands, “Oh my god!”

“Sister Ellie?” Lind stood behind her holding a suitcase, craning his neck to look inside.

Then he couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows… After all, three days ago, there should have been only a carriage here.

But now, it had transformed into a two-and-a-half-story marble villa covering an area of five hundred meters, with a fountain in front of it… In the middle of the fountain, there was a light purple windbell grass, in a shallow 10-centimeter water pool, meandering throughout the front courtyard.

Apart from a cyan slate path, there was nowhere else for people to walk… It seemed that this Archmage did not intend to open the door to guests.

The style wasn’t particularly special, but… the time was unbelievably short.

How was this done?

Ellie took a deep breath and solemnly warned Lind, “In front of Sage Belfran, don’t talk much!

If he doesn’t intend to speak to you, don’t try to be clever, understand?”

“I understand!” Lind looked seriously at the villa… This time, he understood more clearly what kind of person he was facing!

He absolutely cannot make mistakes!

Both the Ismael Family and the Finch Family could run amok in Basia City all because they had a Great Sage behind them, right?

Ellie led Lind step by step into the castle. Today, when Count Stelter instructed her to bring Lind along, she was a little worried.

Just hoping that Grand Mage Belfran wouldn’t mind her brother who was carrying the suitcase for her.

Hill showed no sign of dissatisfaction, but after checking Ellie’s homework, he taught her a standard assignment of an Alchemy Apprentice… Like a first lesson in sketching, though eternally unchanging, it was the fundamental groundwork.

Then he instructed her to come back the day after tomorrow with her homework… Hill didn’t ask how many times she should complete it; as long as it was done, Hill didn’t care if it was a hundred times or a thousand times.

He paid no mind to Lind, who was trying to eavesdrop.

But he also didn’t show much fondness for this seemingly innocent young man… How to put it?

Even the Undead Tribe was more sincere than him.

Then his days settled into a routine.

Hill arranged a very proper schedule for himself… Every morning he would review notes, and in the afternoon, he would take a walk to the street every other day.

So the people of Basia City quickly noticed that this high-level mage, who completely disregarded the threats of the Alchemist Association and traditional great nobility, found his greatest joy in browsing street stalls every day.

He had no interest in the lavishly decorated high-level shops… Occasionally stepping inside was only to exchange some change.

But because the gold bars or gold nuggets Hill presented were clearly purified with alchemy, about twenty percent purer than those circulated by ordinary merchants, though priced according to the older version, these luxurious stores began to look for items that could entice this Archmage to come in and exchange change.

After all, this Sage, an Alchemist Master, seemed to have high standards and never cared much for rare and strange alchemical products, preferring instead folk art pieces.

Especially some crafts from the Forest of the Elves, which he seemed to really like… Although the elves moved away hundreds of years ago, there are still some with low Elven Bloodline who remained because their parents didn’t mind… It’s known that these elves took even the Half-Elves with them!

Even some with a quarter-bloodline, looking almost human except for slightly pointed ears, left on the elves’ oddly tree-shaped magic ships as long as they wanted to.

Though some of these elves stayed for the children they had with humans, the elves had become less willing to interact with humans since the Aesces Desert expanded, so reportedly fewer than ten Half-Elves remain.

Since the departing elves handed over control of the Forest of the Elves to these few Half-Elves, while humans have invaded almost half of the forest, they’ve only touched the perimeter.

The very core of the forest remains preserved by these two or three hundred elf descendants.

However, these far-blood Half-Elves, after intermarrying among themselves and even accepting some humans, have seemingly become more prosperous again.

Reportedly, the forest city now houses over a thousand people!

As the population increased, their self-sufficient lifestyle gradually changed, so over the centuries, some Elven Products have emerged… Though the circulated ones are hardly genuine elven handicrafts; they lack the natural blessing and the soothing halo that filled souls with gentle comfort, at least they can invigorate the mind and stimulate spiritual power.

Besides, these crafts are not that expensive, making them available in stores… True Elven Products, even if stores dared to sell them, no one would dare to buy!

Who knows if they were stolen from some great noble’s house?

Regarding the situation where he could only spend money on Half-Elven paintings, woven items, or even small jewelry boxes intricately carved from naturally fragrant wood, Hill felt powerless.

Otherwise, what could he buy?
