Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1486: Chapter 64: Mom, Something Big Happened

The little figure on Ellie’s shoulder tilted its head slightly and softly called out ”Ellie,” then clung to a lock of her hair without moving.

Behind those eyes that seemed filled with innocence, a flash of light seemed to pass by.

”Ellie!” Lind stood on the second-floor corridor and called out, ”Mother asked you to check how things are at the port!

Heh~ At least now you can fly, you don’t have to worry about spiders climbing up you.”

Ellie turned to look at him and said with extreme sincerity, ”Lind, I don’t know if you think that since everything is exposed, you might as well give up completely, but even if everyone knows you’re cursing them in your heart, a smile will make people view you a little more favorably.

It’s better to hide your pettiness for your own sake... once you’re used to being sharp and mean, it’ll be hard to take it back.”

Lind sneered, ”Ah... in the current situation, I think it’s normal not to be able to take it back.

When I felt the sky was falling, my sister, famously lucky Miss Ellie, simply opened a jewelry box and discovered a Wind Elemental Spirit that hadn’t appeared for centuries!

The last time such a thing appeared, it was the Fire Element Spirit of Great Sage Ismael!

Look, your future is so promising!

The same youth, the same profession, the same extraordinary talents...”

”I can sympathize with your imbalance.” Ellie’s long eyelashes gently fluttered twice, ”But that doesn’t mean I will tolerate your malice wishing for my demise... exaggerating my abilities so that enemies might see me as the first choice for assassination?

You think too much.

For the enemies, as long as our father hasn’t stripped you of the Stelter name, you being a male member will certainly matter more than me.”

Lind lay on the marble railing showing a particularly innocent smile, ”There’s nothing I can do; while I still bear the Stelter name, you just have to endure my childish ignorance!

My dear sister, after all, we are all parasites who can only survive depending on the family!”

”It’s truly delightful that you’ve regained your reliance on the family.” Ellie floated into the air without blinking, looking down at her little brother whose personality seemed twisted for unknown reasons, ”Keep trying, my dear little brother~

Better realize soon how important family love is to you!”

Sitting on the rooftop terrace, Helena irritably tapped the silver cup beside her with a pen, ”Alright, stop your boring little quarrel.

Get back to studying! Get back to work!”

Ellie spread her hands, ”But, Mother, didn’t you say I shouldn’t let Lind get his way anymore?”

”Not in public; it will cause unnecessary misunderstandings; the Stelter Family and Basia City are already chaotic enough,” Helena said leisurely, ”Once back in your rooms, you can deal with him any way you like.”

Lind pouted and turned into the study behind him.

Ellie laughed crisply and soared into the sky, heading straight for the port.

In Helena’s gaze as she watched her daughter’s back, a trace of melancholy floated up.

Her daughter, lucky to a point that raises suspicion.

Her maid came up carrying a pile of documents, ”Countess, what’s the matter?”

”Ellie... what kind of luck do you think it is that allows her to find an ancient and long-dormant Elemental Creature from a centuries-old jewelry box?”

”What’s the point of thinking about it now?” The maid said calmly, ”Our Stelter Family surely has some special aspect that led to such turmoil.

Just like the Ismael Family back then... they only suddenly saw the rise of a Great Sage when they were on the brink of annihilation.”

”That’s different,” Helena smiled at her, ”The Ismael Family has only its bloodline left as Ismael, right?

My Ellie is still Ellie.”

”The Stelter Family wouldn’t burn the souls of its descendants to seek a chance for the family’s resurgence.” The maid pursed her lips, ”That he retains the family name is just due to his broad-mindedness.”

Helena shook her head, ”To be honest, the old Ismael wasn’t so great... well, saying this is meaningless.

Anyway, all the Grand Temples confirmed he is harmless... maybe even invited back by the great Aesces himself.

Sigh... those Mutated Silk Spiders are tough to deal with; don’t know if the Great Sage has some solution?

It’s really troublesome...”

”Mithril Swords coated with Moonlight Potion can still cause damage,” the maid suddenly responded, ”But even after searching all of Basia City’s stock, they are quite insufficient!

These are requests for help from various places... hoping we can seek help from the Silvermoon Temple in other cities.”

”If not for their beautifying effect, Moonlight Potion wouldn’t even have these many stocks now.” Helena sighed as she pressed on her head, which was starting to ache, ”But Elven Products are ubiquitous.

Especially wooden crafts; anyone with a little money would buy a couple to make a show.

However, the more like these people, the more they hold false hope, not promptly disposing of those things.”

Alas... Even when things are this chaotic in Basia City, some people are trying to hide the truth. What do you think it will be like in other places, even if they receive our notice?

Don’t even think about it; no one will send a life-saving straw to Basia!

”What should we do then?” the housekeeper asked anxiously, ”Even though Young Master Diet is on his way back, he has to return with Mithril weapons, so how could he get the Moonlight Potion?”

”Basia City, after all, is such a young establishment!” Helena patted the files in her hand, ”Inform these people to have the pure maidens of the family, carrying milk and fresh fruits, clad in white robes, pray to the Goddess of the Silvermoon Pandia with every step they take, until they reach the Silvermoon Temple.”

”But... it’s so dangerous outside?”

”The deities won’t lend a hand without reason,” Helena said with a calm expression, ”Once Ellie returns, she must go as well.”

She glanced at the housekeeper, ”We can’t force anyone. The Goddess of the Silvermoon never accepts compelled prayers.

It must be a decision these girls willingly make out of love for their families.

Pandia surely knows how severe the situation is; all she needs is a stepping stone.

Of course, the girls who go will surely receive more rewards.

But I can only be sure that Ellie will be willing to take the risk for the safety of her father and brother. As for other girls, how would I know?

Not to mention, the word ’pure’ itself is enough to make many girls reluctant to commit.”

”How could it be?” The housekeeper pressed both hands to her mouth, lowering her voice, ”Noble maidens... they’re not noblewomen!”

She was still rational and didn’t make things clearer in this drafty place.

”Ah... times have changed~” Helena sighed, ”In the past, young noble girls needed to marry men who could protect them.

But now... a safer world has given them more choices.

You see, the great nobility still lives in the last century, placing great importance on marital alliances, but young nobles, especially those not fearing powerful professionals as much in recent years, now prioritize themselves more.

Compared to marrying high and suffering humiliation, young noble girls prefer selecting well-spoken gentlemen who appear charming and would never randomly unleash fury on them.

Especially the young gentlemen who have become professionals through their own abilities, hailing from very wealthy families.

As long as their family isn’t archaic enough to beat the girls to death for wrongdoing, who can still manage their social interactions outside?

Although I’m not too accustomed to it, I’m too lazy to mind others’ business as long as Ellie doesn’t drive me crazy.

But, I can’t go around asking if their girls love themselves more or simply can’t go to the Silvermoon Temple?”

The housekeeper hesitated for a while, then sighed, ”That’s certainly not something to ask; why make things difficult for those young girls.

I understand, I’ll write the letters... When do you intend for Miss Ellie to go?”

”Tomorrow is the fifteenth!” Helena slowly turned her gaze toward the northern castle, ”The full moon night, of course, is the most fitting.”

Even though she was anxious and hoped to end this dreadful disaster soon... the hidden enemies were still not found.

There would definitely continue to be silk spiders appearing.

Tomorrow will certainly be the most difficult day.

But Pandia’s power can only be borrowed once, so they certainly have to make good use of it.

Helena turned to look at the room next door: wondering if that Great Sage Belfran would intervene and under what circumstances.

But she cannot place her hopes on an outsider’s goodwill, someone who can flee at any time.

Seeing the grave-faced Helena seated at the table, the housekeeper cautiously turned the lamp brighter, ”No matter what happens tomorrow, let’s finish the work first!”

Helena glanced at the pile of files once again crowding the desk, took a deep breath, ”I... have only rested for a few years!

Really...”

”Marrying a man like a wolf, you still want to be a peacock?” the housekeeper couldn’t help but mutter, ”Hurry up and get to work! By morning, it needs to be taken down.”

However, in the morning, Helena was greeted by a panic-stricken Ellie flying back, ”Mama! Mama! Something big happened!”

Helena stood up, confused, ”What happened? Over by the port... who died?”

”No... it’s not that!” Ellie shook her head desperately, ”The message from the Alchemist Association! Great Sage Ismael summoned a large batch of strange professionals in the Magic Tower outside the Capital!”

”Professionals?” Helena repeated, still somewhat dazed.

”They reached level 5 almost in just a day!” Ellie couldn’t comprehend what had happened, ”And they’re rummaging through everywhere!

Bullying the commoners in the Capital... Great Sage Ismael said they were guests from his hometown, not understanding the situation leading to this.

He will find a way to stop them.”
