Apocalypse Gachapon

Chapter 2279: Country Alliance

”Itʼs been a long time, hasnʼt it? Last time we met, it was at Sharp Peak Pass.”

Guangyao looked at the clean-featured young man before him and said.

Ah Lang, the new supreme commander of the Resistance Zone, was no more than twenty-five years old. Back when Guangyao had been a main force commander, this man had just graduated from the C-Zone Junior Commander Academy and entered the Sharp Peak Pass command post for an internship.

In just a few short years, he had already risen to the position of supreme commander.

Although the Resistance Zone could no longer compare to its former self, as one of the only three remaining powers in the national region, the top seat was not an easy one to hold.

It meant not only surviving in the apocalypse but also facing the enormous pressure from Cloud Peak.

Because you never knew when that behemoth might open its mouth and swallow you up.

Such pressure was not something just anyone could bear.

But even someone like Guangyao had to admit that since Ji Ruiguang left, Ah Lang, after going through some twists and turns to reach the top commander position, had done quite well.

Ah Lang smiled and said, ”Yeah, back then you were the idol of all of us interns.”
He paused and added, ”Actually, you still are now.”

Guangyao was taken aback for a moment, then a complicated look crossed his face.

”Iʼm just a battalion commander at Cloud Peak, while youʼre the leader of a whole power. Saying you envy me... isnʼt quite right, is it?”

Ah Lang shook his head: ”Itʼs not judged by status, but by... influence.”

”Everyone knows that Guangyao is Cloud Peakʼs second-in-command, one of the decision-makers, with authority second only to Xia Lei. Your every word and action affects the life and death of countless people—thatʼs something I canʼt do.”

The smile on Guangyaoʼs face faded slightly, and he did not continue.

”After I became supreme commander, Iʼve been trying something completely new. I no longer treat force and conflict as the core. Instead, I help more people become what they need to be to survive more easily in the apocalypse—or what they want to be in peacetime. Itʼs okay if they have no strength—I can provide protection. I want to change the face of the Resistance Zone.”

A Lang looked at Guangyao with a very serious expression. ”I want to restore this world to what it was before.”

By now, Guangyaoʼs face was completely expressionless.

”The strong save themselves; the saintly save others.” This powerhouse of Cloud Peak looked at the long human defensive line ahead and said softly, ”You are a saint, but Iʼm not—I barely count as a strong one, so I can only save myself.”

………………

The million-strong army from the Resistance Zone was positioned on the southern flank of Cloud Peakʼs camp, while the Glory Army was on the northern flank. On the map, they flanked Cloud Peak from above and below.

That evening, the central camp of Cloud Peak was bustling with noise. All the high-ranking members of Cloud Peak gathered together, first enjoying a lively meal, then gathering around two bonfires to chat.

As long as nothing particularly important or urgent arose, Cloud Peak now generally used this more relaxed approach for communication and discussion.

A fierce gust of wind swept down from the sky, and a beast roasting over the bonfire was snatched away by a giant dragonʼs maw reaching down from above. After swallowing it, the dragon flew back into the sky, letting out a grating, piercing laugh.

”Three days without a beating and itʼs climbing onto the roof!” The Death King Tree, who had taken human form, looked up and said, showing off his language skills while trying to figure out what the SPF value on sunscreen meant.

”It did it on purpose. It got a beating from Big Bear and Big Yellow this afternoon, so itʼs sulking—thatʼs normal. Plus we made it responsible for night air patrols, so itʼs just trying to save face.” Little Tiger picked at his ear with a dagger, found it not satisfying enough, and added a bit more force.

”Big Bear” was everyoneʼs nickname for the giant mottled bear.

There were now many bear-type war beasts in the villa, and the mottled bear was the strongest, so calling it Big Bear was fitting.

Among Cloud Peakʼs current top-tier beings, war beasts outnumbered humans, giving rise to a peculiar culture where these war beasts were treated like people.

They fought together, discussed matters together, ate together, played together... There was even a case where a female Cloud Peak soldier, heartbroken after a breakup, poured her heart out to Yangos for an entire night.

Of course, Dragon Lord had been asleep nearby at the time.

”You met them—what are your thoughts?” Xia Lei had someone put another beast on the fire, then asked Guangyao and Deacon Tong, who had gone to receive them on her behalf.

Deacon Tong thought for a moment and said, ”A bit cold, but they seemed sincere. Probably Mu Hanyi sent word down from above. You know, those Radiant Army commanders are like brothers. After Mu Hanyi left, it was their second-in-command who took charge, but he didnʼt come this time—others came instead. One nine-star, maybe a few hundred eight-stars? Roughly.”

Under Cloud Peakʼs pressure, the Glory Army and the Resistance Zone had still developed. According to the chameleonʼs intelligence, each side now had two nine-star evolvers, though the Resistance Zone kept theirs hidden, while the Glory Army was relatively open about it.

After Deacon Tong finished, everyoneʼs eyes turned to Guangyao.

”I donʼt know Ah Lang well, but his rise has been fast. In the Resistance Zone, having Ji Ruiguangʼs support from above is one thing, but he also has his own methods. Today he probed me subtly, and I shut him down. I expect heʼll also try to win over Old Mu, and heʼll push hard.”

”As for this man, how should I put it—we need to be cautious. Heʼs young and brash, yet tries to act mature beyond his years. He might do something foolish one day.”

”Heʼs a nine-star—I could sense it. Thereʼs another nine-star in his team who didnʼt show publicly. The reports said seven hundred eight-stars came, but the chameleon just said nine hundred.”

After hearing Guangyao out, Little Tiger said dismissively, ”If he gets cocky, just smack him down.”

”Stop pretending to be from the Northeast!” The genuine Northeasterner, Liang Chuyin, who was sitting nearby, kicked him.

”Chief Mu told me about this. Ah Lang met with him and subtly hinted at recruiting him, but he didnʼt spell it out either—he was probing.” Xia Lei put down her cup. ”It seems this guy wants to rebuild the Resistance Zone.”

Some of the others sneered, some shook their heads, some were indifferent, but without exception, none took it too seriously.

Was Guangyao or Chief Mu so easy to win over? Ah Lang was thinking too much.

”Alright, letʼs talk business.” Xia Lei stood up.

”Right now, Brother Tang Tian is in the process of evolving in the villa. Once he becomes a nine-star, that frees up support for Sister Hong and Le Dayuan, which in turn frees up Xia Bai and the Red Female Guard. And I also have a bottle of nine-star evolution potion here—letʼs discuss who should take it.”

”Also, new equipment will arrive tomorrow. Its performance... let the musician tell you about it later. In short, itʼs very powerful.”

”What Iʼm saying is, with reinforcements, new equipment, and another new nine-star evolved, should we... launch a decisive battle against these sea beasts?”
