Apocalypse Gachapon

Chapter 2154: Blood Battlefield (8)

“We have retreated to the fifth line of defense! We have retreated to the fifth line of defense!”

“All long-range units, prepare! All long-range units, prepare!”

“Zhongming, could you make the Kepaisi Sky Cover launch the same attack as before?! Hyena Demon Eagles appeared in the sky! They are approaching rapidly!”

“Ah Tong, Ge Gui, your two races eliminate the Multi-Armed Wild Man Demon! It must not be allowed to approach the fourth line of defense!”

“Attention, attention! Flying mutated lifeforms are rushing over from the direction of the Half-Abyss Demon Cavern!”

“Attention, the Su Clan also entered into contact combat on their side, the support power of the Kepaisi Sky Cover has weakened!”

“Put the Third Regiment and the Fourth Regiment on standby; the situation might be more severe than we had imagined!”

“Fifteen kilometers away, strong energy reaction points appeared, number: three!”

“Logistics officer, prepare combat supplies in advance!”

…………
Countless orders and inquiries kept coming through the communicators, which, from the side, confirmed that this battle had entered the intense stage.

The Small Race Alliance held the terrain advantage and had been gaining the upper hand before. The small path was naturally easy to defend and difficult to attack. It, coupled with ample preparations made beforehand, about forty minutes had passed since the start of the battle, yet the mutated lifeforms still had not broken through the small path.

Even when they approached the latter half of the small path, they were attacked by the long-range units that had long been prepared on the Overlapping Water Dead Zone.

Those were not the few hundred people following Ye Zhongming; there were several thousand, all warriors with powerful skill-based attacks. Their very first attack cleared away all mutated lifeforms within a hundred meters, achieving an instant kill count of over a thousand.

However, once the attack had begun, the mutated lifeforms would not stop. During their charge, not to mention their attacks, countless companions were crushed off the small path, but they did not care because their numbers were too great.

Facing the attacks of the universeʼs races, the mutated lifeforms also counterattacked, and their counterattacks were very powerful.

The universeʼs races had long-range units, and among the mutated lifeforms, there were also those with long-range abilities, even many of them.

After the long-range units on the Overlapping Water Dead Zone unleashed their power, the long-range units of the mutated lifeforms began to retaliate.

Compared to the bright and concentrated skills of the various races of the universeʼs myriad races, the long-range units of the mutated lifeforms appeared somewhat scattered.

It only appeared that way.

In fact, the number of long-range attack lifeforms among them far exceeded that on the universeʼs racesʼ side.

At the same time, countless types of attacks rose up.

There were patches of black arrows, which were the spines of some unknown lifeforms. There were liquids of various colors, which were the bodily fluids of many lifeforms, most of them poisonous. There were various elemental energies, various stones and trees, thrown by lifeforms of immense strength. Ye Zhongming even saw that, at a distance of at least five or six kilometers from the Overlapping Water Dead Zone, six clusters of light, like small suns, rose from the forest and slowly flew toward this side…

Due to distance and height, probably less than one-fifth of the mutated lifeforms’ long-range attacks could land on the precipice; the rest targeted the small path.

The remaining several lines of defense were constantly impacted and washed by various attacks. The defensive fortifications, thought to be sturdy, were destroyed within seconds, and the warriors still on them had to use every means at their disposal to survive.

Ye Zhongming led his people in retreat; they fought as they retreated, with no other choice. The frenzied tide of attacks from the mutated lifeforms was too terrifying. Even though they held the terrain advantage and could block the path with a small force, they realized that, in close-quarters combat, advantages sometimes had to be defended with lives.

Simply put, after killing one mutated lifeform that charged up, there would be a second, then a third, a fourth, a fifth, an nth… The feeling it gave everyone was that they could never kill them all.

During battle, even these warriors, who were almost like superhumans, would get tired and would also be affected by the principle of one burst of energy, then exhaustion, then depletion!

Especially when comrades suffered casualties, courage and ferocity often went to two extremes: either losing all sense of proportion, with no other thoughts but to fight, fight, fight! Or fear arising in their hearts, their courage seized.

Either way, it affected combat effectiveness. The latter went without saying—if afraid, nothing could be done well. As for the former, while an individualʼs combat might peak, their coordination with the team would be lost. In such a race war, individual power was truly too insignificant.

So it was normal and expected for the defense lines to be breached, and for Ye Zhongming to lead his people in retreat was equally unavoidable.

“Were they trying to shatter the Kepaisi Sky Cover?”

The pressure on the ground for the universeʼs races was great, but the pressure in the air was even greater.

Because of the Kepaisi Sky Cover, both the Su Clan and the Small Race Alliance had not invested much in anti-air preparations. The materials and combat power saved were all allocated to ground defense.

This approach was understandable. If, despite having the Kepaisi Sky Cover, they still consumed too much on defending against aerial units, it would be counterproductive and a waste of resources.

After the battle started, the Kepaisi Sky Cover indeed played its role, providing an almost perfectly blocking defense in the air. The endless energy beams made every flying lifeform that attempted to approach the precipice pay with its life.

This big machine alone was worth tens of thousands of men in anti-air defense. Even when the air defense pressure was low, it could assist in ground defense. At the very beginning, it had killed at least five hundred mutated lifeforms around the Multi-Armed Wild Man Demon, and even the Multi-Armed Wild Man Demon itself had been severely wounded.

But after the full-scale attack unfolded, the mutated lifeforms seemed to know that unless the Kepaisi Sky Cover were broken, their attack power against the precipice would be inherently halved, so they launched the fiercest assault on it.

This assault reached its peak after the appearance of the Hyena Demon Eagles.

A super-level-nine lifeform actually used its ability to swell its body several times its size, acting as a shield for the other flying lifeforms behind it, pressing down toward the Kepaisi Sky Cover. It let countless beams shoot into its body, creating bloody holes, without ever dodging. As it approached the Kepaisi Sky Cover, the lifeforms hidden behind it swarmed out from all directions, attacking the top of the Sky Cover.

They wanted to land on it and then pierce through this hated metal cover.

“Activate the Elemental Light Bars!”

Ye Zhongming, who had been observing the sky above, shouted into the communicator. The person inside the control room of the Kepaisi Sky Cover immediately operated the machine to activate this most famous defensive measure of the Sky Cover.

The light bars, imbued with elemental power, defended the airspace beneath the Kepaisi Sky Cover, leaving the warriors below truly free of worries from behind.

Any flying lifeforms that tried to rush from under the Sky Cover to the Overlapping Water Dead Zone were immediately attacked and killed upon touching these light bars, and even some long-range attacks were neutralized.

Some mutated lifeforms thought that the large gaps between the light bars would allow them to slip through, but the facts proved that area was also a forbidden zone, filled with elemental energy.

With the addition of the Elemental Light Bars, the Kepaisi Sky Cover was able to focus all its energy on dealing with the flying lifeforms directly above it. Its firepower suddenly intensified, and those flying lifeforms that had thought they found an opportunity were shot down one after another.
