Divine Level Witch Doctor

Zhao Yuan said with a grave expression, ”We have to operate. We need to get this new type of parasite out of her stomach, or she’ll be dead by tomorrow!”

His words stunned everyone in the room!

It was just a parasite. How could she die the very next day without treatment? Surely that was an exaggeration!

”Aren’t you just fear-mongering?” the young man demanded, glaring at Zhao Yuan suspiciously.

Zhao Yuan shook his head and said in a grave voice, ”Fear-mongering? Not at all. From what I know, three other people have already died from this new parasite. The day before they died, they all exhibited symptoms like high fevers and abdominal pain. I even assisted with the autopsy on one of the victims. That’s how I know just how terrifying and potent this new parasite is!”

Pan Mei, Liu Zhu, and the others, however, had complete faith in Zhao Yuan. After all, he had already proven his abilities time and again in the events leading up to this.

After hearing what Zhao Yuan said, Pan Mei, Liu Zhu, and the others realized that the young woman’s condition was truly critical.

However, Pan Mei still had a question. ”Do we really have to operate? Can’t we use medication to kill this new type of parasite?”

Zhao Yuan sighed. ”This is no ordinary parasite. Antiparasitic drugs might not have any effect on it. What if we use medication and, instead of killing it, we just aggravate it? That would only make the situation worse!”

Pan Mei considered this for a moment, then nodded. ”You have a point. It’s a new type of parasite, so existing medications might not work. It seems surgical removal is the best course of action for now. Only after we have a live specimen of this new parasite to run pharmacological tests on can we determine which drugs are effective against it.”

”Exactly,” Zhao Yuan agreed.

Their back-and-forth exchange laid out the situation clearly, convincing the onlookers that Zhao Yuan was telling the truth—this new parasite was truly potent and terrifying.

The young man no longer questioned Zhao Yuan. Instead, he pleaded desperately, ”Please, I’m begging you, operate on my girlfriend now! Get that damn parasite out of her!”

Zhao Yuan shook his head. ”We can’t perform surgery here. We have to get her to a hospital first!”

He had just performed surgery on Feng Ming in an even more hostile environment a few days ago, but that had been a last resort. The trip from the mountain village to the county hospital would have taken nearly two hours on bumpy roads. In his weakened state from blood loss, Feng Ming never would have made it.

But they were in Rongcheng City now, and the hospitals weren’t far. That being the case, it was obviously best to take her to a hospital and perform the surgery in a professional setting. That would reduce the risk to a minimum.

The young man quickly said, ”I already called for an ambulance. They should be here soon.”

Just then, an employee ran over, shouting, ”They’re here, they’re here! The paramedics have arrived!”

No sooner had he spoken than several doctors and nurses burst into the buffet restaurant with a gurney. Zhao Yuan helped them lift the sick young woman onto it. As he followed them out, he pulled a bank card from his pocket, handed it to Lin Xue, and said, ”Pay the bill for me. I’ll text you the PIN in a bit.”

”Should we go with you?” Lin Xue asked.

The other students chimed in, ”Yeah, Zhao Yuan, let us come with you. Maybe we can help.”

”No need.” Zhao Yuan waved his hand, politely declining. ”The doctors and nurses at the hospital can help. You all stay here and keep eating. I’ll come back for you after I’ve helped them finish the surgery for this woman.”

Hearing this, the students had no choice but to agree.

In truth, they knew that even though they were medical students, they were only freshmen who had just learned some basic theory. They wouldn’t be much help even if they went. After all, not everyone was a monster like Zhao Yuan.

Only Pan Mei went with him. She had worked in a hospital before starting her postgraduate studies, so she had both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. More importantly, she knew the paramedics who had arrived. Having her around would save a lot of trouble.

Riding the elevator down, Zhao Yuan took out his phone. He first texted the PIN to Lin Xue, then called Wen Ji to give him a brief and concise summary of the situation.

However, after hearing him out, Wen Ji said, ”You shouldn’t be calling me about this. You should be contacting the CDC.”

Clearly, he didn’t think this bizarre, heart-devouring creature had anything to do with a homicide. He just saw it as a parasitic disease.

The parasite might be terrifying and potent, but no matter how much so, it was still a parasite. That was a doctor’s problem, not a police matter.

”Captain Wen, do you really think this is just an ordinary parasitic disease?” Zhao Yuan asked with a frown.

Wen Ji retorted, ”What else could it be? You think these parasites can be raised by someone? That they can understand commands and kill people on cue?”

”We can’t rule out that possibility,” Zhao Yuan said grimly.

Wen Ji couldn’t help but laugh. ”Zhao Yuan, it’s good to have an imagination, but you need to stay grounded in reality. Raising parasites to kill people? Heh, how could a plot from a novel possibly be real? You’re overthinking things! Look, I’m busy here. I’m hanging up.”

Listening to the BEEP BEEP BEEP from the phone, Zhao Yuan couldn’t help but smile bitterly.

’It was only natural that Wen Ji didn’t believe him. After all, the idea of raising parasites was simply too outlandish. But I know it’s not impossible. Even today, legends of Raising Gu and using Gu to harm others persist in the Miaojiang region.’

’In a sense, Gu Insects were a type of parasite.’

’I just wonder if the bizarre creature inside this woman’s stomach is a type of Gu Insect.’

’Or is it something else entirely?’

’My intuition tells me that this bizarre, heart-eating creature isn’t just foraging on its own—it’s being controlled by someone! I don’t know what the person controlling it is after, but I am determined to find them!’

’A doctor’s duty is to save lives and heal the wounded! And that isn’t just about treating illnesses and alleviating pain; it’s also about finding the root ’cause’ and making sure it’s dealt with!’

After a moment of consideration, Zhao Yuan found Lu Qing’s number in his phone and dialed it.

Just as he did, the elevator reached the first floor.

Everyone was focused on wheeling the patient out and didn’t notice Zhao Yuan.

He lowered his voice and got straight to the point, telling Lu Qing about the incident, as well as his discoveries and suspicions.

Unlike Wen Ji’s skeptical attitude, Lu Qing listened and, without a moment’s hesitation, said, ”Which hospital are you headed to? I’ll be right there!”

Zhao Yuan was taken aback. ”You believe me?”

”I do!” Lu Qing said. ”Because I’ve encountered a criminal with similar abilities before!”
