Divine Level Witch Doctor

After reveling in his success for a while, Lu Ping finally exited the grade inquiry system and clicked on ”Class Rank Inquiry” on the school’s official website. But after the page loaded, he didn’t see any rankings. There was only a single line of text displayed on the webpage: ”Class rankings are being compiled. Please check again after twelve o’clock.”

”These teachers are so inefficient. It’s been several days, and they still haven’t compiled the class rankings,” Lu Ping grumbled.

He couldn’t wait to see the class rankings, to see himself standing alone at the top, with Zhao Yuan crushed beneath his feet.

’Whatever, twelve o’clock it is. I can wait a few more hours. It’s not like my prize is going to grow wings and fly away.’

Full of confidence, Lu Ping began to imagine the glorious scene after he took first place in the year. ’Surely, so many people will be left in awe, practically worshipping me! And Zhao Yuan... he’ll definitely be staring at me, his eyes filled with envy, jealousy, and hate.’

Just the thought of Zhao Yuan feeling dejected and jealous because of this made Lu Ping feel ecstatic and deeply satisfied.

This feeling of climbing to the top by stepping on others was just too damn good!

Closing the webpage and shutting his laptop, Lu Ping sneered, ”Oh, Zhao Yuan, Zhao Yuan, don’t blame me. I’m just taking back what should have been mine in the first place! The number one freshman in the Department of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine can only be me, and it *must* be me!”

Unfortunately for Lu Ping, he had no idea that Zhao Yuan had never once cared about the title of ”Number One Freshman in the Department of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine.”

His goal was the sea of stars... no, that’s not right. It was to become an Extraordinary, transcendent Witch Doctor, just like Wu Peng!

Compared to Zhao Yuan, Lu Ping’s goal was simply insignificant.

Just then, Lu Ping’s phone rang. He picked it up and saw that his lackeys had @’d him in the group chat for Class 5 of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine: ”Brother Lu, the grades are out! Hurry up and check your scores.”

Lu Ping opened the class group chat and saw that quite a few students were already showing off their report cards.

The students who did well were being falsely modest, saying things like, ”Oh man, I did just okay,” or ”I only got full marks in two subjects, how embarrassing.”

Meanwhile, the students who didn’t do well were complaining with a mix of envy, jealousy, and hate—”You guys did so well and you’re still acting like you didn’t? Can you stop being such posers? It’s infuriating!”—while also wailing, ”It’s over, it’s over! I won’t be able to enjoy the New Year now. When I get home, my parents are going to nag me to death!”

The corner of Lu Ping’s mouth curled up. ’If not now, when is a better time to show off?’

He immediately typed out a line, @’ing his lackeys and replying: ”I did alright. Full marks in all subjects. It barely met my expectations.”

The moment these words appeared, the once-lively class group chat instantly fell silent.

Everyone was stunned by Lu Ping’s grades.

After a few seconds of stunned silence, his lackeys began sending a flurry of typed messages and voice notes, all sucking up to him:

”Brother Lu, you’re a beast!”

”Full marks in every subject? Holy crap, my dude, you’re practically ascending to godhood!”

”With grades like these, there’s no way you’re not number one in the whole year!”

The lackeys’ comments stirred up the rest of the class. Everyone started chiming in, expressing their shock and admiration for Lu Ping’s grades.

Seeing this, Lu Ping grew even more smug. He let out a sly laugh and muttered to himself, ’Kneel before my grades, you mere mortals!’

Suddenly, someone in the group chat piped up, ”If Lu Ping got full marks in every subject, doesn’t that mean he’ll tie with Zhao Yuan for first place in the year?”

Lu Ping’s expression instantly darkened. He snorted. ’Tie for first place? As if! This time, I’m going to crush Zhao Yuan and claim the crown of first place all for myself! What an idiot. Can’t he say anything right?’

Although he was furious, Lu Ping still put on a false front and replied in the group chat, ”It would be my honor to tie for first place with a shining star of our school like Zhao Yuan!” Inside, however, he was fuming. ’Honor my ass! If Zhao Yuan actually manages to tie with me this time, then I’ll have truly seen a ghost!’

His mood soured, and Lu Ping tossed his phone aside. He was in no mood to waste any more time with the nonsense in the group chat and began to anxiously wait for the class rankings to be released at noon.

Meanwhile, in Zhao Yuan’s dorm room, Liu Zhu and the others were also checking their grades on the school’s official website.

”Not bad, not bad. Besides Basic Theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Medical Ancient Texts, I got great scores in my other subjects. I’ll be able to ask for more New Year’s money when I go home this year.” Liu Zhu grinned happily after seeing his report card.

”Whoa, I actually passed Medical English! That was my worst subject, and I really thought I was going to fail. It was like my pre-exam studying had some divine help; I actually managed to pass!” Wang Rongfeng said with a satisfied chuckle.

Wu Yan corrected him, ”You’re wrong about that, Second Brother. Your successful studying had nothing to do with divine help. It was all thanks to Third Brother’s Soul-Stabilizing Incense.”

”That’s true.” Wang Rongfeng nodded in agreement. ”After lighting the Soul-Stabilizing Incense, you don’t just feel refreshed and clear-headed; your focus and memory improve immensely! The only reason we got such good grades this time was because of Third Brother’s Soul-Stabilizing Incense.”

Wu Yan said with a laugh, ”Exactly! By the way, Third Brother, lunch is on me today. I owe you for saving my life!”

Zhao Yuan was taken aback. ”Saving your life? When did I do that?”

Wu Yan replied, ”You helped me get good grades—how is that not saving my life? My dad called me a few days ago and said if I dared to fail a single class, he’d hang me up and beat me when I got home!”

The other three all rolled their eyes and said in unison, ”Well, we can be sure of one thing: he’s definitely your real dad...”

After joking around for a moment, Liu Zhu urged, ”Third Brother, what did you score? Hurry up and check your grades!”

”Use my laptop,” Wu Yan said, immediately handing it over.

Zhao Yuan didn’t stand on ceremony. He took the laptop, opened the school’s official website, entered his student ID number, and his grades quickly appeared on the screen.

After seeing his grades, Zhao Yuan’s face filled with astonishment, and he cried out, ”Huh? What’s going on here?”

”What’s wrong?” Liu Zhu, Wang Rongfeng, and Wu Yan immediately crowded around, curious.

When they saw Zhao Yuan’s report card, their reaction was the same as his—they were all stunned.

On the report card, there were scores for subjects like Human Anatomy and Medical English—all of which were perfect. But strangely, next to Basic Theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Medical Ancient Texts, there were no scores, only an ”—” symbol.

What was going on?

Even if he had done terribly, there should still be a score. What was the meaning of this em dash?
