Divine Level Witch Doctor

Yu Ke asked urgently, ”What is it? Have you found something new?”

Zhao Yuan pointed to the victim’s open chest cavity and said, ”Teacher Yu, look. There’s not much blood pooled inside the chest cavity. This is clearly wrong!”

Yu Ke leaned in for a look and saw that Zhao Yuan was right. She immediately frowned and said, ”You’re correct. When a person is alive, blood circulation is strong. Even a minor injury to the heart would cause a large amount of blood to gush out and pool in the chest cavity. Only after death does the blood thicken and coagulate, preventing it from flowing easily. Based on this, the victim’s heart must have disappeared several hours after she died? Then how did she die? And how did the heart vanish? It can’t really be as Wei Hao was blathering on about—that a Ghost devoured her heart, could it?”

’A Ghost?’

Zhao Yuan raised an eyebrow.

In the past, he would have never believed that Ghosts existed in this world. But in the last few months, he had not only received the legacy of a Witch Doctor, but he had even seen a Ghost Spirit.

He now understood that there were, in fact, many supernatural incidents in the world!

’Could this victim have really been killed by a Ghost?’

’If it really was an Evil Ghost at work, then the heart’s bizarre disappearance would make sense.’

While Zhao Yuan’s thoughts were running wild, Yu Ke resumed the autopsy, hoping to find more clues to help solve the case.

Suddenly, Zhao Yuan spotted something he had seen before.

”Wait!” he cried out, raising a hand to point. ”What is that?”

Yu Ke followed his finger and saw a few droplets of dark green slime covering the severed blood vessels.

These were the arteries and veins that connected to the heart, such as the coronary arteries.

Yu Ke said thoughtfully, ”This color... it looks familiar.”

Zhao Yuan said, ”Doesn’t it look like those green marks we saw on the sofa at the victim’s home?”

His reminder jogged her memory. Her expression turned grim as she nodded. ”Color-wise, they’re practically identical!”

”Do you think there’s a connection between them?” Zhao Yuan asked.

Yu Ke paused. ”What do you mean by that?”

Zhao Yuan theorized, ”Is it possible that some kind of creature entered the victim’s body through her mouth, nose, ears, or even her lower orifices? Perhaps it devoured her heart, then used that dark green liquid to seal the blood vessels and prevent blood from flowing out. Once it finished feeding, it exited through her anus, which would explain why it left some of the dark green slime on the sofa...”

This bold theory stunned Yu Ke. She questioned him, ”That’s impossible, isn’t it? What kind of creature in the world exclusively eats human hearts?”

Zhao Yuan shook his head. ”I, for one, think that all sorts of strange and bizarre things can exist in this world.” He then added, ”Of course, this is just a theory. But we can investigate from this angle. It’s not like we have any other leads or findings right now.”

His words convinced Yu Ke. After a moment of consideration, she agreed to Zhao Yuan’s proposal.

After collecting a sample of the dark green slime in a test tube to send for analysis, Yu Ke and Zhao Yuan began to inspect the victim’s mouth, nose, ears, and lower orifices.

But after a thorough inspection, they found nothing in any of those areas.

Even so, Zhao Yuan didn’t completely abandon his theory. After a moment’s thought, he said, ”Let’s check the stomach and intestines, as well as the lungs and trachea! If this creature entered the body through the digestive or respiratory system, it would have definitely left traces on those organs.”

Finally, their persistence paid off.

After a careful search, the two of them discovered a tear near the pylorus of the victim’s stomach.

The tear was long and thin, its inner walls coated in a layer of the dark green liquid that sealed it shut, making it very difficult to spot from the outside. If Zhao Yuan hadn’t eaten the Snake Gallbladder that Hao Li had prepared with a Secret Technique, greatly enhancing his vision, he likely would have missed the tear, which was finer than a strand of silk!

The tear in the stomach, along with the dark green liquid covering it, undoubtedly lent credence to Zhao Yuan’s theory.

”Oh my god... could there really be some bizarre creature that entered the victim’s body through her mouth or anus, chewed through her stomach, crawled into her chest cavity, and devoured her heart bite by bite?”

Yu Ke pictured the scene of this dangerous and bizarre creature attacking someone and shivered, feeling both nauseated and horrified.

But she quickly thought of a new problem. ”No, that’s not right. If her heart was being eaten, why didn’t she react at all? I remember what we saw at the crime scene. The victim looked very peaceful.”

Zhao Yuan remembered it too. When they saw the victim at the crime scene, she had been sitting upright on the sofa, her expression normal. She had indeed looked peaceful.

Having your stomach wall torn and your heart devoured would be excruciatingly painful! The fact that the victim didn’t struggle at all during the process was indeed very strange.

Zhao Yuan’s gaze fell on the green liquid in the test tube. ”Could it have something to do with this stuff? I have a bold theory: it most likely has a powerful anesthetic effect, which is why the victim didn’t feel any pain while she was being attacked.”

Yu Ke immediately said, ”I’ll take this to get it analyzed. You keep examining the body and see if you can find anything else.”

”Alright, leave it to me,” Zhao Yuan agreed.

Yu Ke hurried out with the test tube, and Zhao Yuan continued the autopsy.

He had wanted to look up the origin of the dark green liquid using his Information Leaf, but unfortunately, no information appeared on it this time. He didn’t know if it was because the liquid was too low-level, or for some other reason.

Less than half an hour later, Yu Ke returned to the dissection room. ”How is it?” she asked as soon as she walked in. ”Any new discoveries?”

”Nothing.” Zhao Yuan shook his head. He had already checked the entire body again but had come up with no new findings. ”What about you? Are the lab results back?”

”They’re back.” Yu Ke waved a lab report at Zhao Yuan. ”Just as you guessed, this dark green liquid has a powerful anesthetic effect and is extremely viscous! But for now, we can’t determine what kind of creature secreted it. It looks like this case was probably an accident. At the very least, we can rule out the possibility of homicide!”

”An accident?” Zhao Yuan muttered, his tone full of doubt.

’He had a feeling it wasn’t that simple.’

After the autopsy, Yu Ke wrote up their findings in a report, which she submitted to the municipal criminal investigation team along with the photographs taken during the procedure.

”Some kind of creature entered the victim’s body and devoured her heart, causing her death?”

Looking at the report, Wen Ji had an expression that said, ’You’ve got to be kidding me.’
