I Married the President

Chapter 137: Chapter 137: Be a Little More Tactful Outside

Even a cool-as-ice rock queen ended up looking shy and bashful in front of a master player like Ethan Kingsley.

Ethan Kingsley wrapped his arm around her slender waist. ”Babe, let’s go...”

The cringeworthy sight finally vanished.

Claire Sinclair immediately said, ”That Kingsley guy is so disgusting. He has a girlfriend and still tried to hit on me. What if the paparazzi start writing lies about me?”

Henry Hartwell teased, ”Isn’t that a good thing? Plenty of women would kill for a connection with him. You’d be famous.”

Claire Sinclair scoffed. ”Getting famous that way? Don’t you think that’s disgraceful?”

Henry Hartwell was suddenly intrigued. ”Then what kind of fame *isn’t* disgraceful?”

”When you’re bringing glory to your country, of course. Like an Olympic champion on the podium, or even someone who just misses out. I think that’s honorable, win or lose.”

’Just like my superhero, silently pouring his blood, sweat, and tears into this country. That’s honorable, too.’

Henry Hartwell raised his hand and patted the back of her head, saying earnestly, ”Claire Sinclair, if someone asks you a question like that in the future, you can just choose not to answer. It’s fine to think it, but keep it to yourself. You need to be a little more tactful out in the world, especially with reporters. You have to play the right part for the right occasion.”

Claire Sinclair understood in an instant, nodding repeatedly. ”I get it!”

’If I don’t want to get famous by making a fool of myself, I shouldn’t be a nonconformist in public. Otherwise, it’ll just backfire.’

’Teacher Hartwell is amazing! He knows so much!’

”Let me know when your leg feels better. I’ll take you to get something to eat.”

”Mhm!”

Henry Hartwell then took out his phone and started playing a game...

Claire Sinclair raised an eyebrow. ’What a waste of that handsome face. Playing a mobile game at an event like this? Is that really appropriate?’

’Haha, whatever. I might as well take out my phone and play too.’

After some time, the feeling finally returned to Claire Sinclair’s leg.

Acting like a man who’d been starved in a past life, Henry Hartwell led her into the restaurant. He took her on a grand tour of every delicacy on the buffet tables, and by the time they finished, they were both stuffed to the gills.

As they came out of the restaurant, they saw Linda hurrying toward them. ”Hanson, so this is where you were hiding! Come with me, now!”

As she spoke, Linda grabbed Henry Hartwell’s arm and started dragging him away.

Letting himself be dragged along for a few steps, Henry Hartwell asked, ”What’s the big rush?”

”It’s a massive emergency! Now, come on!”

”I’m telling you now, if this is a blind date, I’m not going.”

”Get real. At an event like this, who has time to set you up on a blind date...”

Watching their figures recede into the distance, Claire Sinclair was left standing there, momentarily at a loss for words.

’Teacher Hartwell’s gone. Now what am I supposed to do?’

From a distance, she saw Linda drag Teacher Hartwell over to a group of women. The women immediately lit up, their smiles stretching from ear to ear, though Claire had no idea what they were saying.

Feeling bored, Claire Sinclair took out her phone.

She couldn’t bring herself to play games at an event like this, so she just browsed social media and scrolled through the news.

She became engrossed, completely unaware that a few pairs of eyes from a short distance away were now fixed on her.

Meanwhile, Phoebe Lockwood was chatting with a few men in their forties and fifties.

They were all businessmen who had dealings with the M2L brand and were on good private terms with Governor Lockwood. The reason Phoebe Lockwood was speaking with them was that she refused to stoop to mingling with ”those actors and celebrities.”

One of them, an older man with gold-rimmed glasses and a balding crown, kept glancing over in Claire Sinclair’s direction. Even his glasses couldn’t conceal the lecherous look in his eyes.
