I Married the President

Chapter 111: Chapter 111: The Wicked Bring About Their Own Ruin

The lights were on, but in that moment, Claire Sinclair was plunged into a boundless darkness as fear closed in around her.

She could only struggle with her upper body. Her mouth was still covered, allowing only muffled sobs to escape. Her attacker’s arrogant threat rang in her ear:

”Hey, gorgeous. I’m just asking you one thing: are you gonna pay up or not? If you don’t pay, I’ll do you right here. So, are you paying?”

Although Claire Sinclair was scared out of her wits, a stubborn voice deep inside her was screaming: ’I wouldn’t pay even if you beat me to death!’

Unfortunately, she couldn’t speak, so she could only shake her head frantically.

Seeing this, the shop owner raised his hand to slap her.

Just then, all the computers in the shop that were on and connected to the network let out a loud BANG! They billowed white smoke and, one after another, burst into flames.

The shop owner and his clerk were stunned by the sight.

Claire Sinclair froze for a second, too. A single word popped into her mind: ’Hacker!’

The first computer catching fire could have been a coincidence, but this fiery spectacle was definitely no accident. Someone had to be behind it!

The only people in the world capable of remotely making computers burst into flames were hackers.

Clearly, a hacker had targeted this shop.

Was it a coincidence?

Or had she been targeted, too?

Seeing all the computers in the shop go up in flames, the owner forgot all about Claire Sinclair and scrambled to grab a fire extinguisher.

Claire Sinclair’s legs were immobile, leaving her unable to escape. She pulled out her phone to text for help: I’m at shop #62, come save me!

The moment she sent the message, someone viciously kicked her hand, sending the phone flying from her grasp.

”You fucking bitch! You dare call the cops? I’ll do you right now! Stay put, I’ll deal with you later!” the owner snarled. He kicked her phone into a corner before turning back to the fire.

Claire Sinclair clutched her aching right hand and glared up at the two thugs frantically trying to fight the fire, her eyes blazing with rage.

A moment ago, she’d been scared to death, but now, she wasn’t afraid at all.

As long as he saw her plea for help, these thugs would be brought to justice.

Her superhero would surely come and save her.

’Adrian Quincy, please hurry up and get here.’

At this moment, the lights suddenly went out!

The world was plunged into an even deeper darkness. Claire Sinclair’s heart leaped into her throat. ’A power outage?’

Fortunately, the flames on a few of the computers hadn’t been extinguished yet, casting a little light into the darkness.

Watching the two crooked shopkeepers run around in a panic, Claire Sinclair felt a grim sense of satisfaction.

’What goes around, comes around.’

Before long, the last of the flames were snuffed out. The next second, the sound of a metal roll-up door rattling open came from behind—

Claire Sinclair turned her head in joyful surprise. Her eyes fell upon a pair of long, straight legs. Her gaze shot upward, and sure enough, there it was—the perfect, handsome face she had been longing to see.

Her superhero had finally arrived.

”Mr. Quincy!” Claire Sinclair cried out joyfully, turning and trying to crawl toward him.

Seeing her crawling on the floor, Adrian Quincy realized the terror she must have endured, and his heart clenched with a visceral pain.

He strode forward and scooped her into his arms. ”Claire, are you hurt?”

”I’m okay! You have to arrest these two crooks! They don’t just sell counterfeit goods—they tried to extort me, and they locked me up and held me against my will!”

Hearing her furious accusations, a towering rage ignited in Adrian Quincy’s heart. He commanded in a low, dangerous voice, ”Take them away!”

”Yes, sir!” came the crisp, unified response from behind. Only then did Claire Sinclair realize that Aiden Howkins was there too, followed by several plainclothes bodyguards, their presence formidable.
