I Married the President

Chapter 129: Chapter 129: He Must Have Done It on Purpose

Claire Sinclair had actually seen the message he sent long ago, but she didn’t want to reply. She tossed her phone aside, opened her laptop, and continued revising her manuscript.

’Who would want to deal with him? Not an ounce of sincerity.’

...

「The next day.」

Claire Sinclair was busy the entire day, completely absorbed in revising her manuscript. She revised it over and over but was never satisfied. In the end, she’d lost all her creative drive and nearly let all her hard work go to waste.

Before she knew it, it was half past six in the evening, and she suddenly remembered something very important.

’Oh, crap!’

’I’ve been buried in this manuscript all day and completely forgot about needing a formal gown. The banquet starts at half past seven. Is there even time to go buy one now?’

Claire Sinclair hurriedly tidied up her desk, getting ready to leave.

Henry Hartwell suddenly sauntered over. ”Claire Sinclair, you have your gown ready, right? Are you riding with me later, or are you getting there on your own?”

Claire Sinclair replied instinctively, ”I’ll go on my own!”

”Haha... Great! That means I don’t have to drive. You get there on your own, and we’ll meet up there.” By the time Henry Hartwell finished speaking, he was already out of the office.

Claire Sinclair raised an eyebrow. ’This guy never planned on going with me in the first place, did he?’

’I’ve never met such a pathetic man. Not a gentleman in the slightest!’

’Whatever. I need to hurry and buy a gown.’

Slinging her bag over her shoulder, Claire Sinclair ran to wait for the elevator. After a few minutes passed and it still hadn’t come down, she decided to take the stairs instead. After all, she was only on the 12th floor; going down wouldn’t be that much of a hassle.

But she had clearly overestimated her legs. By the time she reached the ground floor, her thighs felt like jelly, and she could barely stay on her feet.

’What’s that saying? Haste makes waste. That perfectly describes my situation right now.’

She had no choice but to sit on the stairs for a while, waiting for her legs to recover before she could walk out.

As she stepped out of the building, she saw a silver convertible parked by the entrance with a trendy, golden-haired man in the driver’s seat.

Mistaking her for Cecilia Sinclair, he let out a whistle. ”Hey, beautiful. You know Phoebe Lockwood? I’m her cousin.”

Claire Sinclair shot him a dark look and ignored him.

Just as she was about to head to the bus stop, her phone suddenly rang.

The caller ID read: Aiden Howkins.

’Aiden Howkins is calling?’

Curious, Claire Sinclair answered the call. ”Hello?”

”Young Madam, Young Master Quincy sent me to pick you up. I’m at a red light now, but I’ll be at your newspaper office in about five minutes.”

”You don’t have to trouble—”

BEEP, BEEP, BEEP...

He had hung up before Claire Sinclair could even finish refusing.

’That guy definitely did that on purpose!!!’

Claire Sinclair pouted in annoyance. ’People like him are just unbelievable.’

Since he was almost there, she couldn’t very well just leave. She didn’t want to be accused of being a diva, so she had no choice but to stand and wait for the car.

At that moment, the blond man got out of his convertible and walked straight up to Claire Sinclair. ”Waiting for someone, beautiful?”

Claire Sinclair silently scooted to the side, not bothering to respond to such a cheap pickup line.

Unexpectedly, the blond man sidled up closer. ”Hey beautiful, how about you give me your number? That car of mine has an empty seat... it’s just missing its mistress.”

’Damn it! Is he trying to hit me up for a booty call? This guy is disgusting!’

With a look of utter disgust, Claire Sinclair said, ”I’m not interested in you or your car. Please stop bothering me.”

”Whoa, beautiful, watch your mouth. I’m inviting you with the utmost sincerity, and this is the attitude I get? Do you have any idea who I am? My uncle is Governor Lockwood, Bernard Lockwood. My other uncle is the West District Councilor, Benjamin Lockwood. Scared now, huh?”

”Asshole...” Claire Sinclair muttered under her breath, shuffling further away.

Hearing that word, the blond man reacted as if someone had stepped on his tail, and he instantly flew into a rage.
