I Married the President

Chapter 118: Chapter 118: You Might End Up a Living Widow

Adrian Quincy walked to the bed, pulled back the covers, and lay down beside her.

Claire Sinclair turned mechanically to face him. ”Aren’t you going back to your room?”

”You invited me over, and now you want to kick me out?”

”When did I ever invite you...?”

’No, no, I didn’t!’

Adrian Quincy caught sight of the timid look on her face and frowned. ”Claire, are you ready?”

”No!”

’Not in a million years!’

”I think you’re cute when you’re like this.”

”Not cute at all!!!”

Before she could voice her refusal, the man had already approached her gracefully. His voice was incredibly gentle. ”Claire, I think I’m starting to fall for you.”

Claire Sinclair swallowed hard. ”Maybe it’s just your imagination...”

With that, she quickly pulled the covers over her head, her heart pounding erratically.

The man slowly leaned in closer, his expression full of affection. ”It’s not my imagination.”

Just as the sweet moment between them was about to cross a line, Claire Sinclair’s phone suddenly rang.

The only person who would call her in the middle of the night was her best friend, Faye Dean, who was all the way in Meridia.

Faye usually only called when it was an emergency. Otherwise, Claire was always the one to initiate contact.

’Did something happen?’

Worried that Faye was in trouble, and feeling pressured by the man’s advances, Claire Sinclair seized the excuse to retreat and quickly sat up to answer the phone.

”Faye, what’s wrong?”

”Boo-hoo... Claire, I’m going to die!”

’What’s going on?’

Claire Sinclair’s face paled in fright. ”Faye, don’t cry. Tell me what happened.”

”I... I just hit someone with my car. I was going to take him to the hospital, but he suddenly stopped breathing! What do I do? Boo-hoo... I don’t want to go to jail.”

Hearing her best friend’s panicked sobs, a chill ran down Claire Sinclair’s spine.

”Um, what if you turn yourself in? I think the laws in Meridia are pretty lenient on people who confess, right?”

”But if I turn myself in, I’ll still be locked up for a long time, and my future will be ruined! I haven’t even married a rich, handsome man yet. How can my life be ruined like this...? Claire, I’m in such a panic right now.”

Claire was panicking too. After a long moment, she finally managed to say, ”Why don’t you try to calm down first, and we can figure something out together—”

”AHHH—!” Faye Dean suddenly screamed, making Claire Sinclair jump.

Just as she was about to ask what was wrong, Faye Dean stammered, ”The... the corpse... it’s come back to life...”

”What do you mean, ’come back to life’???”

”The... the dead guy... I think he moved?”

”So he’s not dead?”

”I-I don’t know. I’m too scared to get closer.”

Claire Sinclair raised an eyebrow. ”Go take a look!”

”No... It’s too scary...”

BEEP... BEEP... BEEP...

The line went dead.

Claire Sinclair blinked. ’Faye said the corpse came back to life... so the person she hit wasn’t dead?’

’So, everything should be fine, right?’

Just as her mind was drifting, a figure suddenly loomed over her, making her jump.

”Mr. Quincy, um...”

”Hmm?”

”I...”

...

...

’Oh, heavens, please grant me the strength to survive tonight!!!’

Seeing the girl’s expression of someone bravely facing their doom, Adrian Quincy was both exasperated and amused. ”Claire, you’re trying to kill me with cuteness.”

”What... do you mean?”

The moment she asked, the meaning dawned on her.

’Waaah, but he’s just so intense... Can I please say no?’

”Claire, I’ll give you ten seconds to decide.”

”I—”

’Damn you, Adrian Quincy! What happened to the ten seconds you promised?!’
