I Married the President

Chapter 123: Chapter 123: Your Hand Speed Could Set a World Record

Whether intentionally or not, Phoebe Lockwood bumped Claire Sinclair’s arm, nearly knocking over her cup. Luckily, Claire reacted quickly and steadied it just in time, preventing the water from spilling onto the handwritten manuscript.

Phoebe Lockwood walked up to Henry Hartwell as if nothing had happened. ”Deputy Editor, I’m here.”

”Perfect timing. After you finish wiping the desk, go ahead and clean this mark off the floor for me. I don’t know who made it, but they didn’t even bother to clean it up.”

The black mark looked like... chewing gum.

Phoebe Lockwood’s face immediately darkened. She wanted nothing more than to just walk away, but she had to grit her teeth and get to work.

Henry Hartwell sat for less than a minute before grabbing his backpack and heading into the records room.

Claire Sinclair silently rolled her eyes. ’This woman is crazy.’

Pushing those thoughts aside, she scanned the first page of the manuscript in seconds. After she finished reading, she closed her eyes.

After a moment of silence, she placed her hands on the keyboard. Without looking down, her eyes fixed on the screen, she began to type rapidly, the keys producing a rhythmic clatter.

Before long, the sound of her typing drew the attention of her other colleagues in the office.

Some began to whisper:

”Oh my god, Claire Sinclair’s typing speed is insane! And she’s not even looking at the keyboard!”

”Are you kidding? There’s no way she’s just typing at that speed. She’s probably playing a game and fighting monsters.”

”No way, she’s playing a game in the office?”

”Let’s go take a look and find out.”

Curious, the group walked over.

All eyes shot to Claire Sinclair’s computer screen. In the Word document, lines of text were appearing one after another, so fast it was almost dizzying to watch.

In less than a minute, the entire first page had been transcribed into the computer.

Sensing movement behind her, Claire Sinclair instinctively turned around. She jumped in surprise when she saw several people peering over her shoulder.

”Wha—what are you all doing?”

Shaking off their astonishment, they showered her with praise. ”Claire, we had no idea you could type so fast! It’s no exaggeration to say you’re even faster than a scanner!”

”That’s right! Even a scanner can’t keep up with you.”

”That’s incredible, Claire! With speed like that, you could set a world record!”

”The young ones are truly something else!”

...

Faced with the overwhelming flood of compliments, Claire Sinclair blushed and said humbly, ”It’s all from practice. With enough hard work, any of you could do it too.”

The words had barely left her mouth when someone retorted...

”Isn’t that the truth. Anyone could reach that speed if they just worked hard enough. What’s so amazing about that?”

The speaker was Phoebe Lockwood, her tone dripping with disdain and malice.

The others looked at Phoebe Lockwood, all of them speechless.

At first, they had all been polite to Phoebe Lockwood, wary of the fact that she was Governor Lockwood’s daughter. But after seeing her deliberately drop her food container at the conference—only to be put in her place by Claire Sinclair—any goodwill they had toward Phoebe was gone. In fact, their opinion of Claire had improved immensely.

Not to mention, Claire Sinclair never threw her weight around by using her connections to Quincy Manor. She was a diligent worker with an excellent attitude, always respectful to her seniors.

Phoebe Lockwood, in comparison, was a real piece of work.

Ignoring Phoebe Lockwood, the group praised Claire a few more times before returning to their desks to work.

Claire Sinclair picked up the second page of the manuscript. She scanned it in a flash, memorizing the text before she began typing again.

Phoebe Lockwood had been about to make another snide remark, but when she saw Claire typing from memory—and with such freakish speed—she felt like she’d just been slapped in the face.

’This woman... she’s an absolute freak!’
