Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2727: Chapter 2728: The Saintess Scam

Now Gao Zhou understood why Bai Ruozhu prevented them from killing the great elder, silently blaming himself for being too impulsive and failing to understand the child’s painstaking efforts.

”You’re still so foolish. I’ve waited over twenty years. Do you really have to let all my hard work be in vain? What hope do I have for living?” Gao Zhou said painfully.

”Aren’t you foolish yourself? I’m not worthy of your actions,” Chushuang said with difficulty.

Gao Zhou wanted to hug her but feared hurting her. For a moment, he didn’t know where to place his hands.

People say the most painful thing in this world is having you by my side, yet not knowing I love you. But what does that mean? At least you can watch someone love you silently.

The most painful of all is searching for her for twenty years and then having to part upon reunion, wanting to hug a lover but not daring to touch her.

”Ajiang...” Chushuang struggled to raise her right hand, barely out of the covers, signaling Gao Zhou to hold her hand.

Gao Zhou acted very gently, as if touching a newborn, fragile shadow, fearing he might accidentally hurt it.

”Don’t look. I’m already like this and really don’t want you to see me much.” Chushuang was glad to see him again but pained by him seeing her in such a state, neither human nor ghost.

At this moment, urgent footsteps were heard outside the cave; it was Bai Ruozhu and the others searching for Gao Zhou when someone from Yuchen Palace arrived with news.

Bai Ruozhu knew it couldn’t be hidden any longer, so she explained the truth on the way to Jiang Yichun, but urged him to stay calm, as the one most affected would be Chushuang.

They stopped at the cave entrance, not daring to disturb Gao Zhou and Chushuang inside. But Jiang Yichun could see the situation within: his parents, so loving yet so tormented.

Tears streamed down, and Bai Ruozhu bit her lip. She held Jiang Yichun’s hand and softly said, ”Let them talk. We’ll surely find a way to save your mother.”

Jiang Yichun did not speak, taking a long time before he replied with a hum, suddenly turning around and striding away.

Bai Ruozhu hurriedly chased after him, ”What are you going to do? Don’t be impulsive. I also want to kill them all, but we must first find a way to save your mother; surely the elders know something.”

Jiang Yichun did not respond, his footsteps undeterred, rushing straight to the Merfolk Main Hall. The astrologer guards watching the elders were startled by Jiang Yichun’s expression, unsure of what happened.

”Ruozhu, what happened?” Fo Lanying asked urgently.

Bai Ruozhu gritted her teeth, ”His father found his mother. I actually met her before, but I promised to keep her situation secret because it was really bad.”

Fo Lanying grew worried, ”How bad is it?”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t stop her tears, ”Those merfolk survive past thirty by eating her flesh.”

”What!” Fo Lanying exclaimed, and the astrologer and Ning Yu looked at Bai Ruozhu incredulously. How could merfolk eat their own kind’s flesh?

”Why do you think they raise a saintly figure? Just to eat the saint’s flesh to lift the curse and live past thirty!” Bai Ruozhu finished and rushed into the Main Hall.

Jiang Yichun had already found several elders in custody. He didn’t use inner strength, choosing instead to beat them with his fists. The elders had their cultivation base sealed jointly by the astrologer and Ning Yu, now powerless to resist.

Bai Ruozhu did not stop him. Let him vent if he must; seeing Chushuang made her want to kill those old bastards herself.

Suddenly, noise erupted outside the hall. A large group of merfolk gathered at the hall entrance, angrily shouting, ”Why are you outsiders holding our elders? Get off Merfolk Island!”

Bai Ruozhu frowned; it was time to clarify things, only awaiting news from Jianqi.

Fortunately, Jianqi soon emerged from behind the hall, bringing several pale, dazed young girls.

”Master, all the saints are rescued. One case is most severe, possibly unsustainable.” He supported a girl, the oldest among them but no more than ten, having been fed blood the longest, making her condition the worst.

The blood meant to repel the curse greatly harmed these girls’ bodies, akin to poison, hence none of the saints survived these years.

Bai Ruozhu reached out to support the girl, gently saying, ”Don’t be afraid, I’ll save you. You can go home.”

The girl was very weak but showed panic in her eyes, ”No, I can’t go home; it would implicate my family.”

”Silly child, no one will harm your family anymore.” Bai Ruozhu said, feeding her some medicine to temporarily ease her discomfort.

She supported the girl and said to the other young girls, ”Look at who those people are.”

The girls glanced where she pointed, gasping in shock. The elders they feared were being beaten, faces covered in blood, no longer holding the high status they once did.

”Who are you? Can you really help us?” one girl asked.

Yunyun, having been inside not long, was in the best spirits. Recognizing Bai Ruozhu, she told the other girls, ”She’s from the Jiuli Clan, very powerful. She will surely help us. We don’t want to drink blood anymore; I want to be with my parents.”

Several girls started crying uncontrollably, ”We want to go home too.”

They were all young, and as one cried, the rest followed suit, their sobbing reaching outside the hall, silencing the crowd.

What kind of grief could bring such tears?

”That’s Yunyun’s voice, my daughter!” Ayi shouted excitedly, rushing into the hall. The astrologers didn’t stop her, allowing her entry.

The Main Hall strictly prohibited merfolk commoners, but some hesitated, seeing no guards, followed inside.

”Mom!” Yunyun saw Ayi and joyfully sprinted over.

Bai Ruozhu smiled at Ayi, ”It’s alright. Yunyun’s condition isn’t serious; a few doses will heal her.”

Many recognized their daughters, but seeing their girls as saints clearly led a bad life, they hugged them and cried.

The eldest saint scanned the crowd, spotting only her uncle.

”Xiaoyue, your parents have passed.” Her uncle approached and said.

Xiaoyue cried, immediately fainting.

”What’s going on? Master, master, please save Xiaoyue. My brother only has her!” The man knelt in tears, his attitude extremely reverent.

”Stand up, I’ll save her,” Bai Ruozhu instructed Fo Lanying to help, placing Xiaoyue on a nearby chair, administering needles and Qi, finally waking her.

”My parents...really gone...” Hatred suddenly filled her eyes, ”The great elder promised if I persevered, he’d grant my parents longevity. He lied!”
