Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2719: Chapter 2720: Please Don’t Tell Them

Bai Ruozhu felt her scalp tingling with fear. Are these people insane?

In her previous life, she had seen an animated film from an Island Country, where a group of mermaids were raising a human girl. The mermaids didn’t want to age, so they forced the girl to eat their flesh bit by bit. Their flesh was severely poisonous to humans, but for those who survived eating it, the mermaids could then eat the girl’s flesh to regain their youth.

In that story, where did the girl’s mermaid flesh come from? It was from the mermaids with status who forced the younger mermaid girls to sacrifice themselves and offer their flesh.

The mermaids were beautiful, but their hearts were not beautiful at all.

And these Merfolk here, they were devouring their own kind bit by bit, having even less of a bottom line than the mermaids in the animated film.

And in order to live on the back of the Giant Turtle, to control it, they harmed a group of ordinary people from Yuchen Palace.

”What is the relationship between that woman and Feng Ran? What is her name?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

”She is Feng Ran’s disciple. She and her brother once escaped from the Merfolk Island, aided by Feng Ran’s sacrifice. After that, Feng Ran’s Divine Sense was damaged, and she slept for years. Later, the elders captured her back and secretly fed Feng Ran her flesh, allowing Feng Ran to live past thirty but also driving her mad.”

Bai Ruozhu’s eyes widened. ”Is her name Chushuang?”

”You know her?” Yuchenzi asked.

Bai Ruozhu’s mind buzzed. That woman was Chushuang, Achun’s biological mother!

Even someone as calm as her couldn’t remain so; her eyes had already turned red, filled with fury, with only one thought in her heart — she must kill those Merfolk elders, kill all those who had eaten Chushuang’s flesh!

Agate noticed her emotional state and quickly pulled her to say, ”Do you want to go see her? Calm down first.”

Cold tears wet her face, and Bai Ruozhu became a bit more clear-headed. Yes, she should go see Chushuang first.

”Alright, take me to see her.” There was a grittiness in her voice, and she was even a bit scared of going to see Chushuang, unsure of what kind of person she would meet.

”And you are...?” Yuchenzi asked curiously.

Bai Ruozhu gritted her teeth. ”She is my husband’s birth mother. Back then, she had a child in Zhongyuan and was taken away by the Merfolk right after childbirth.”

Agate covered her mouth, regretting suggesting Bai Ruozhu go see the person. Wouldn’t Bai Ruozhu become more agitated after meeting her?

”Lead the way.” Bai Ruozhu said coldly.

Yuchenzi waved a hand. ”Take her there; it’s fate.”

Bai Ruozhu followed Agate to the cave. She remembered the way, but Agate asked her to wait first, going in to say a few words to Chushuang.

”The Jiuli Clan’s Madam Bai is here. She says she’s your son’s wife. You can let her in.” Agate said.

”My son? Where is he? Has he come?” Chushuang was excited, and the Sword Qi slammed against the cave walls.

”Don’t be agitated, only Madam Bai came. If you want to know about your son, ask her face-to-face.” Agate, scared, squatted down on the ground.

The Sword Qi gradually subsided, and Chushuang seemed to calm down. ”Let her come in.”

Agate sighed with relief and went out to lead Bai Ruozhu into the cave.

The cave was very dark, lit only by a gentle Night Pearl, casting a soft glow on the person lying on the bed, making her look somewhat more gentle.

But even so, she appeared eerie, her face gaunt to the point of nearly collapsing inward; her eyes protruded due to her thinness.

Her body was covered with a blanket, even her neck was hidden beneath it, and though nothing could be seen, one could tell her emaciation was extreme.

Perhaps it wasn’t just thinness; perhaps there was no flesh at all.

Bai Ruozhu covered her mouth and wept silently, biting her lower lip hard, trying not to sob aloud, but the scene before her made it impossible to hold back.

”Child, your name is Bai Ruozhu, right?” Chushuang spoke slowly, but her tone was much softer, even showing a hint of vitality.

Bai Ruozhu quickly wiped her tears and walked over slowly.

”Yes, I am Achun’s wife, and you have three little grandchildren now.” She forced a smile that wasn’t quite so unpleasant.

”Is Achun alright? Luckily, he isn’t a Merfolk.” Chushuang smiled slightly, or at least she seemed to smile.

Bai Ruozhu paused; she didn’t know whether to tell Chushuang that Achun had awakened the Merfolk Bloodline.

”We were supposed to come in together, but the barrier has strengthened. My Golden Feather could only bring me in alone, unable to bring him. Otherwise, you could see him.” Bai Ruozhu continued, ”But soon we’ll rescue you, and father has also come; he has been searching for you for over twenty years, never giving up.”

Unexpectedly, Chushuang’s expression became extremely unpleasant immediately, ”No, I don’t want to see them. Please don’t tell them I’m still alive. I don’t want them to see me like this!”

She became agitated, suddenly coughing violently, spitting out a mouthful of blood.

Bai Ruozhu and Agate were terrified. Bai Ruozhu hastily went to take her hand, trying to check her pulse, but recoiled in shock upon contact.

She felt bones wrapped in uneven skin, and there was no pulse!

”Don’t get excited. I won’t tell them. I promise.” Bai Ruozhu quickly assured.

Chushuang calmed down, ”You noticed I have no pulse, right? I should have died a long time ago. I can’t leave here, as there are complex arrays sustaining my life. Leaving here would mean my death.”

Two streams of clear tears rolled down her cheeks, ”I used to wish for an early death as a release, but now I am reluctant to die, wanting to see them.”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but begin to cry again, ”They’ve always believed you’re alive; please just see them.”

”No, I won’t see them!” Chushuang firmly said, ”They will only be more pained seeing me. Better they think I passed away peacefully when I was thirty.”

Bai Ruozhu could understand Chushuang’s feelings. If she felt heartbroken seeing Chushuang, would not Achun and Gao Zhou feel even worse?

Chushuang couldn’t bear for them to be distraught.

”Child, promise me you won’t tell them; please, I beg you.” Chushuang pleaded.

Bai Ruozhu, heartbroken, could only nod, ”Alright, I promise. But you must promise me to live well. We will find a way to save you.”

”Don’t waste your energy. In this world, there is no method to reanimate the dead or make bones leap back to life.” Chushuang smiled faintly, ”Just go back and live your lives well. All I wish is for you to be well.”

”But...” Bai Ruozhu hesitated whether to inform Chushuang about Achun.

Writing this part made me tear up, too. Don’t call me cruel; this was the original setting — Merfolk couldn’t live past thirty, so they raised a saintess to extend their lives.
