Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2705: Chapter 2706: Ali Stopped Breathing

The two of them waited a little longer. Seeing no one coming out, they exited the space and returned to their residence.

Bai Ruozhu entered the room, prepared to sleep, but unexpectedly heard Fo Lanying talking in her dream. She was hugging a pillow, mumbling, ”Xiaoyuan, Xiaoyuan, where are you?”

Bai Ruozhu suppressed a laugh, helped her tuck in the blanket, took off her outerwear, and lay down on the bed.

In the palace of the Merfolk, the great elder walked in angrily. The second elder came up to ask, ”What happened?”

The great elder angrily waved his sleeve, revealing several cuts on it, with the good garment torn in several places.

”Did someone attack you? Could it be those Jiuli people?” the second elder asked in surprise.

The great elder snorted coldly, ”No, it wasn’t them. It was that woman. Even in her state, she set up a restriction. Anyone she doesn’t want to see will enter the cave and be caught in the sword array. Good thing I was a bit prepared, or I would have gotten hurt.”

”She clearly doesn’t want to see us.” The second elder sighed, ”At least she’s willing to see that girl from Yuchen Palace. Forget it, don’t be angry. Just have that girl pass the message.”

”Do you think I want to see her? I just wanted to see how she’s doing, hoping she’s not dead.” The great elder retorted impatiently.

The next day, the great elder and the second elder met with Bai Ruozhu and the others, and during the conversation, they inquired about the situation with the Jiuli.

”The young people of the Jiuli Clan are so outstanding nowadays, truly enviable,” the great elder remarked.

Bai Ruozhu smiled, ”The clan is selecting successors, and there are quite a few stronger than me. Wei Hall also has some experts.”

”Wei Hall?” the great elder inquired, knowing little about the Jiuli Clan.

Bai Ruozhu explained briefly with a smile, also mentioning with some pride that her second brother was a member of Wei Hall.

”Does the Jiuli Clan frequently venture out now?” he asked again.

”In the past, the Jiuli Clan wasn’t allowed to engage with the outside world, and we seldom ventured out. Now the clan leader encourages us to go out and experience the world. It’s said that traveling thousands of miles is better than reading thousands of books. Staying in the clan won’t offer better training.” Bai Ruozhu replied.

The great elder kept praising the idea and suddenly asked, ”Is Jiuli still as beautiful as ever, with peach blossoms blooming all year round?”

”Yes,” Bai Ruozhu said.

The great elder’s eyes lit up briefly but quickly hid it, ”We can’t leave the sea, otherwise we’d love to visit Jiuli. After all, the Jiuli were once the lords of the Merfolk.”

”Why can’t you leave the sea? Haven’t you Merfolk already shed the habit of living in the sea?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

The great elder assumed that the Jiuli Clan had passed down some information, so Bai Ruozhu knew about the Merfolk’s past. He said helplessly, ”Even so, once we leave Merfolk Island, our descendants would be cursed to have fish tails and can only live in the water.”

Bai Ruozhu inwardly sneered, thinking, ’That’s how you originally were. What curse are you talking about? Fool someone who doesn’t know any better.’

But why did he ask about the peach blossoms?

Could it be...

Bai Ruozhu had some speculations in her heart but didn’t know if they were correct.

The Jiuli Clan’s peach blossoms bloom all year round, which must be due to some array or the presence of a supreme treasure, or perhaps some special peach tree that the Merfolk covet.

But Merfolk Island is 108,000 li away from Zhongyuan, far beyond their reach, and with the Jiuli Clan’s location being secretive, they are extremely hard to find.

Therefore, they didn’t want to miss the opportunity presented by Bai Ruozhu and others who came bearing the Golden Feather.

After the meal, the group left the main hall for a walk, accompanied by Wenyu. Suddenly, they heard a woman’s shrill cries, and Bai Ruozhu looked toward the direction of the sound, frowning slightly. It was Ayi’s house, and the voice seemed to belong to Ayi!

”What’s happening?” she asked.

Wenyu glanced over, ”It seems the man of that house has fallen seriously ill.”

”We seemed to have helped that woman the day we arrived. What serious illness? My main study in the Jiuli Clan was in medical skills. Perhaps I can help take a look,” Bai Ruozhu said.

”No need to trouble you. They’re just ordinary Merfolk. The clan already sent a doctor to see him.” Wenyu spoke politely, but clearly didn’t want Bai Ruozhu to treat Ali.

Ali seemed fine when they saw him last night; how could he fall ill so suddenly? Besides, Ali wasn’t even thirty yet, so the curse of death wasn’t an issue.

Could it be that the Merfolk discovered something and targeted Ali?

No, not likely. If the Merfolk found out about Ayi’s connection to them, they should have acted against Ayi instead.

But now that something happened to Ali, it was probably because the elders feared Ali knew too much and might reveal past secrets.

Or perhaps they had already chosen his daughter Yunyun as the holy maiden, and feared that Ali might say something inappropriate once it was announced.

”To a doctor, there are only patients and non-patients, no distinction of identity. Left Guardian, there’s no need to be polite. I’ll go over to take a look.” Bai Ruozhu said as she strode over, Jiang Yichun and the others quickly following to intentionally block Wenyu behind.

As Bai Ruozhu entered the yard, Ayi was surprised to see her, but quickly collected herself and cried out, ”My husband has stopped breathing. The doctor says it was a sudden heart disease. But I think he’s only passed out. They say the Jiuli people are very capable. You must have a way to save him. I’m begging you.”

She suddenly knelt and knocked her head on the ground, bruises forming on her forehead.

Bai Ruozhu felt a bit distressed but didn’t help her up. She had to appear extremely indifferent in front of Wenyu, or else she would harm Ayi.

”If he’s stopped breathing, then...” she sighed, went over to feel Ali’s pulse, and then discovered the problem.

It wasn’t a heart disease, but poisoning.

A type of poison that stimulates the heart, causing one to die as if from a sudden heart disease. Only someone well-versed in poisons could detect it.

”Indeed, it’s a sudden heart disease, but he’s only passed out for now, and can still be saved,” Bai Ruozhu said.

She quickly calculated in her heart that saving Ali would expose the Merfolk’s actions and cause the great elder and others to suspect Ayi and her husband.

But if not saved, allowing Ali to die would leave a gnawing regret in her heart, especially since she had much to ask him.

”I’ll first use a golden needle to seal points and protect his heart meridian, but he may survive as a living dead,” Bai Ruozhu said as she discreetly detoxified him.

Hearing this, Wenyu secretly breathed a sigh of relief. A living dead is fine, as long as he can’t speak out.

”Why?” Ayi cried and asked.

”His heart meridian is damaged and he may sleep for a long time. As for when he’ll wake up, it’s up to his own destiny,” Bai Ruozhu subtly signaled Ayi with her eyes.

Ayi understood, but soon burst into loud sobs, her acting spot on, not arousing Wenyu’s suspicion.

Bai Ruozhu worked with the needles for a long time, and finally, Ali had faint breathing, but it was so weak that it seemed he could die at any moment.
