Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2709: Chapter 2710: Sibao Delivers a Letter

Bai Ruozhu laughed awkwardly; she really couldn’t comment on anything.

Ling Chen stood silently, no longer speaking, but clearly watching Feng Ran to ensure she didn’t say something she shouldn’t.

Bai Ruozhu didn’t intend to question Feng Ran so soon, so she just applied acupuncture to treat her illness, and then left.

Feng Ran didn’t know her true identity, and they couldn’t get too close anyway.

When she brought Fo Lanying back to their place, unexpectedly, Ling Chen followed them again.

”Right Guardian, is there something else?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

Ling Chen pointed at Fo Lanying, ”I’m looking for her.”

Fo Lanying pointed at her own nose, ”Looking for me?”

”I want to spar with you,” she said.

Fo Lanying became interested, rolled up her sleeves, and said, ”I love fighting, let’s use that open space over there.”

Ling Chen frowned, ”I don’t like fighting; let’s compete with Divine Sense.”

Fo Lanying sneered, ”Alright, but not fighting is so dull.”

Bai Ruozhu didn’t stop them and just watched from the side. Although she didn’t know Ling Chen’s strength, she felt that Fo Lanying wouldn’t lose.

The two stared at each other, their Divine Senses clashing tens of times, before each stepping back, stopping.

”You’re quite strong, I admire you, but it’s a pity you’re a woman,” Ling Chen said awkwardly.

”What’s wrong with being a woman? Aren’t you a woman yourself? Do you look down on women?” Fo Lanying shouted unhappily.

”I didn’t mean it that way,” Ling Chen bowed her head, looking somewhat forlorn, ”I mean, if you were a man, I would have married you.”

Bai Ruozhu was enjoying the show and almost burst out laughing; this girl speaks too directly.

Fo Lanying’s mouth opened wide for a long time before she managed to respond, ”Sorry to disappoint you, I am indeed a woman.”

Ling Chen wasn’t embarrassed and continued, ”No man in the clan can look me in the eye, let alone live with me. I can’t marry or have friends; it’s quite dull.”

Bai Ruozhu finally understood where her loneliness came from. Sometimes, the talents bestowed by heaven aren’t a blessing.

She walked over, patted Ling Chen on the shoulder, and said, ”There just aren’t any Divine Sense experts in the Merfolk Clan. If you ask Lan Ying, you’ll know that in our Jiuli Clan’s Wei Hall there are many, and more powerful than Lan Ying.”

Ling Chen looked up at Bai Ruozhu, ”Really?”

Bai Ruozhu felt a bit dizzy, this girl’s bloodline abilities are indeed impressive.

Ling Chen quickly lowered her head, fearing she might upset Bai Ruozhu.

”I won’t lie to you. If there’s a chance, you can come with us to the Jiuli Clan, maybe you’ll meet a kindred spirit,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Fo Lanying walked over and patted her other shoulder, ”Yeah, come with us next time to see the world. No need to insist on going to Jiuli, there are plenty of exceptional people out there too.”

Ling Chen seemed happy, but soon she lowered her head, saying, ”I can’t, I can’t leave Merfolk Island, I might not even live past thirty. Also...”

Her voice suddenly lowered, ”When we merfolk leave Merfolk Island, our children turn into half-human, half-fish monsters.”

”Who told you that? Have you tried it?” Bai Ruozhu thought these merfolk were thoroughly brainwashed; the half-human, half-fish monsters they spoke of were essentially themselves.

Ling Chen shook her head, ”More than ten years ago, a half-human, half-fish child appeared in the clan and was later banished.”

Bai Ruozhu pointed to Jiang Yichun and Duannian’s room, ”See my guard over there, the tall one? He was born of a merfolk and a Jiuli; isn’t he doing fine?”

”Are there really other merfolk outside Merfolk Island?” Ling Chen asked, ”Do they live past thirty?”

The world is vast, filled with people and things Bai Ruozhu couldn’t possibly know. She nodded, saying, ”The world is enormous; who can guarantee you merfolk are the only ones? And as far as I know, the curse only affects merfolk of Merfolk Island; your ancestors deceived a dragon long ago.”

Ling Chen apparently didn’t know much more; her eyes widened in surprise, ”I only knew the Dragon Clan is our natural enemy; many years ago, a dragon came to cause trouble, but was slain by an ancestor of the clan.”

Bai Ruozhu sneered but couldn’t say too much.

”I’d really like to go out with you, but the elders won’t agree...”

Fo Lanying interrupted, ”Then sneak out, like I did when Grandpa wouldn’t let me play in the mountains—didn’t I still sneak away? If you listen to those old fogeys all the time, what’s the fun in life?”

Ling Chen looked at her, eyes lighting up, and Fo Lanying quickly closed her eyes, ”Don’t make eyes at me; I can’t handle it.”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but laugh, and Ling Chen followed suit.

Ling Chen soon took her leave, and Bai Ruozhu and Fo Lanying returned to their rooms to rest.

”Chirp chirp chirp...”

Bai Ruozhu opened her eyes immediately. What was that sound!

A little dumpling suddenly darted into the room, ”Sister Ruozhu, I’m here!”

”Sibao, how did you get onto the island?” Bai Ruozhu hugged the little dumpling, astonished.

”I crawled in, but it was a huge effort. If I couldn’t break through the Barrier, how could I have reached the Gold Palace?” Sibao said proudly.

Bai Ruozhu pinched the double buns on its head, smiling, ”Did you let Sa Tian know you’re here? He’d be worried if he couldn’t find you.”

”Of course I did, and he asked me to bring you a letter.” Sibao took out a neatly folded letter from its pocket.

Bai Ruozhu opened it and took a look; Sa Tian mentioned the situation on the boat, and also said he noticed something strange about Fang Luo.

That day Sa Tian had a stomachache, and couldn’t sleep afterward, so he thought he’d go to the deck to look at the moon and enjoy the sea breeze, perhaps write a poem. He didn’t expect to see Fang Luo sneaking onto the deck.

Fang Luo usually had low presence; he almost never spoke with Fang Luo, but somehow he found Fang Luo’s behavior very peculiar, expressions different from usual.

Fang Luo was praying towards the sea, scattering something into it that looked like ashes. He later burned some paper money and threw the ashes into the sea.

He seemed very distraught, even hesitant, and eventually he dove into the sea, disappearing for half a day, before returning, soaking wet, back to the boat.

Sa Tian said he wasn’t suspicious of Fang Luo for anything, just wanted to relay what he saw to Bai Ruozhu and let her decide what to do.

Bai Ruozhu stored the letter in Space, pinched Sibao’s cheek, and said, ”You worked hard, but it’s too dangerous here, you should leave quickly.”

”No, I don’t have the energy,” Sibao pouted, ”Do you think I can come and go from the Merfolk Barrier as I please? Don’t worry, I’ll hide myself well, they won’t catch me.”

Bai Ruozhu looked at the child in front of her. Oh well, after all, it was a demon with a natural ability to protect itself; perhaps she was worrying too much.
