Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

Ye Jian carefully walked past a few beams. She used her flashlight to scan the area. She first scanned the area where the wooden bed frame was. She couldn’t see the bed anymore. She only saw two pieces of wood that looked like bed frames.

Ye Jian pursed her lips. If they were really sleeping on the bed, the odds were against them.

The flashlight shone around and swept across a black hole that was left empty by the beams and mud bricks. Ye Jian slowly approached and shone the flashlight at the black hole. She shouted, ”Is there anyone below? Anyone there? Answer me if you hear me. Answer me if you hear me!

Liu Yang also shone his flashlight down and shouted, ”Anyone there? Answer me if you hear me. Do you hear me? Answer me if you hear me.”

They all held their breaths and waited for someone to respond.

After waiting for a while, Ye Jian pursed her lips tightly.

Liu Yang shouted again, afraid that the people there couldn’t hear him. His voice sounded like it was being torn apart. Finally, he heard a very faint sound from below. It sounded like something was knocking on the ground.

Liu Yang heard the sound and laid down carefully. He seemed to have heard the sound just now!

”Is there someone there? Is someone knocking on something?”

Liu Yang, who heard the sound again, raised his head and shouted excitedly at Ye Jian, ”Captain, Captain, over here! There’s a sound over here! I heard it, I heard it!”

Someone was there!

This was great!

This was great!

The villagers who were waiting in the rain were overjoyed. They shouted at Liu Yang, ”That’s the room where the eldest child and the grandfather sleeps. It must be the eldest child and the grandfather!”

What about the second child and the grandmother?

Ye Jian shouted again. She didn’t hear anything. She could only try her best to save the eldest child and the grandfather in the bedroom on the left.

They needed to move the mud bricks away one by one. Then, they needed to carefully move the broken beams away. They couldn’t move them casually. They needed to be very careful.

The rain was falling. From time to time, thunder and lightning would flash across the pitch-black sky. The villagers who were moving mud bricks saw their most trusted soldiers moving and digging with their bare hands. Their faces… looked younger than their children and grandchildren.

Although they looked younger, they made the villagers feel at ease.

Or rather, it was the military uniform on them that made them feel at ease.

Time passed slowly. More and more mud bricks were moved out. They were getting closer and closer to the place where Liu Yang heard the knocking.

Ye Jian moved the two beams at the top and the broken mud bricks away. She saw a collapsed cabinet. The cabinet hadn’t completely fallen to the ground. There was an empty space between it and the ground. When the flashlight shone over, she saw a child’s shoe and… a small hand.

At that moment, something seemed to have exploded in Ye Jian. She turned her head and shouted sternly, ”Hurry! Move the bricks! Move the bricks!”

That small hand was a child’s hand. The child was sandwiched under the cabinet!

There was an old-fashioned cabinet in the bedroom that was used to store all kinds of dry goods. Previously, they didn’t notice it because it was enveloped by the collapsed beam. As the beam was lifted and moved away and the mud bricks on it were moved away as well, a few low groans of pain entered their ears.

It wasn’t the voice of one person. It was the voice of the old couple!

”Lift the beams! Slow down! Slow down!”

”Give me the escape rope! Tie it to the largest beam and pull it tight. Don’t let it collapse a second time!”

Two hours into the rescue mission, the grandmother was carried out. The old woman’s head was covered in blood. The rainwater drenched her face.

”The children are in the cabinets… The children are in… the cabinets. Save my family… My family… The children, there are two of them.”

She almost used all her strength to finish her sentence.

Ye Jian held the old woman’s hand and said in a low voice, ”Don’t worry, we’ll definitely save the children. Don’t worry!”
