Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

When they arrived at the school, the students’ military boots were filled with rainwater. With every step they took, they could hear the sound of water sploshing about. The flashlight swept across the most imposing four-story elementary school in the village. It had red bricks and white walls. Xu Wen whispered to Ye Jian, ”It’s the best building in the village.”

It was indeed the best building.

After passing through two villages, they saw mud-brick houses from the 1970s and 1980s or red brick houses. There was no paint on the outside. They were very simple red brick buildings. This was a huge visual impact for the students from the big cities.

Just like Xu Wen.

If not for this outdoor training in the forest, she wouldn’t have known that there were mud-brick houses in this era. The mud-brick houses she had seen before were only recorded in videos.

Now, they were in the forest area named by the founder of China. The 45 students in the class were divided into three groups for three days and two nights of outdoor training. Ye Jian was leading one of the three groups for outdoor survival training. The other two groups would complete their outdoor survival training separately.

Tonight was the second night of outdoor survival training. Ye Jian’s group’s accommodation was much better than the other two large groups.

The other two teams had to brave the heavy rain and temporarily build awnings to make do for the night.

Ye Jian and the rest walked into Wang Jia’ao’s Hope Primary School, which was built two years ago. It was built from the donations of the philanthropists from Harbor City. It was four stories high, and the classes ranged from grade one to grade six.

”This is the classroom for grade one. Do you need one or two rooms?” The person who brought the students in was an old man who was guarding the school in Wang Jia’ao Village. He was in his early 60s and had white hair at his temples. His forehead was deeply wrinkled, but his steps were very agile. The old man turned on the two tungsten wire lamps in the classroom and said in a bright voice, ”There are many classrooms. You soldiers can sleep wherever you want.”

As the old man spoke, he sized up the soldiers who suddenly appeared in school curiously. He didn’t know who these soldiers were. One moment, they said that they were students, and the next moment, they said that they were soldiers. They were already soldiers, so why were they still students?

The classrooms in the elementary school weren’t very big, but one was enough for 15 students to sleep in. Song Zhiqiu smiled and said, ”Mister, we’ll just stay in one classroom. We’ll move the desks to the side first. When we leave tomorrow morning, we’ll move them back to the same place. I guarantee that we won’t destroy the tables or chairs. Don’t worry.”

”I’m not worried at all. You’re soldiers, so I’m at ease.”

The old man laughed as he spoke. When he saw that none of the young soldiers were dry and their footprints were wet, his heart ached. ”Why did you come over in the heavy rain? I didn’t know that there was a military unit on our mountain.

”Rest for a while. I’ll bring two pots of hot water over. Have you not had dinner? I’ll go to the cafeteria to light a fire and cook for you!”

When the students heard that, they all said that they had eaten and were full. After all, they couldn’t trouble the villagers.

Song Zhiqiu thanked the old man again and again before the old man left skeptically.

”Eat? What did you eat? Are you full from the rain? Did you eat tree bark? Leaves?” The old man was still talking to himself when he left the classroom.

The students outside the corridor heard this and looked at each other in confusion.

The moment they entered, they asked their comrades, ”The mister said that we ate tree bark and leaves. What did you say just now?”

”Eating tree bark and leaves? We didn’t say anything.”

”Does the mister think we’re doing a long march?”
