Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

Song Zhiqiu didn’t agree with what the previous student said. It seemed safe to take a detour, but the unpredictable risk was greater.

”But this is a suspended slope. It’s almost three stories high. If you fall accidentally, you’ll fracture your bones.”

”I think Song Zhiqiu’s words make sense. There’s too big of an unpredictable risk after dark. At least we know the dangers if we go down the elevated slope. I choose to go down the elevated slope.”

Aerial slope meant that the mountain was cut off from the base of the mountain. The top was solid, and the bottom was empty. They couldn’t walk. They had to lower the rope to pass.

Xu Wen looked at the mountain village where they would be staying for the night and whispered, ”Before we left, a senior told me that if we didn’t reach the village, we could go here…”

She pointed at a spot on the electronic map. Her face was pale, and her voice was even softer. ”This is the resting place of the villagers in the mountains. It’s said that there will be will-o’-the-wisp. I choose to take the elevated slope.”

She was most afraid of spending the night at a cemetery. She would rather choose a shortcut that looked dangerous but in fact, she only needed to pay extra attention to it.

Xu Wen’s words made the male students’ expressions change slightly. Although they were soldiers and didn’t really believe in ghosts, they couldn’t get over the hurdle in their hearts.

Song Zhiqiu looked at Ye Jian. In the end, the decision was with Ye Jian. He believed that with Ye Jian’s commanding ability, she must have an answer in her heart.

”Let’s choose the shortcut. Vice-Captain Song Zhiqiu and I will go down first. Then, you guys will come down. The seniors have taken this path before. We’ll just take it again. We just have to be careful. It won’t be a problem.

”Also, it’s a test to see if we pass our usual training. It’s not a wise choice to choose a long path to avoid using an escape rope.”

Ye Jian slowed down her speech and spoke word by word. Her cold voice was penetrating. She expressed her opinion and let the students understand which choice was the wisest.

Her words made a few students who were focused on safety but missed the crux of the matter nod.

That was indeed the case. They couldn’t lose the bigger picture.

After half an hour of rest, the 15 students shook off the ants that had crawled into their bodies at some point in time. They applied some cooling oil on their skin that was covered in rashes. Then, they poured out the rocks that were causing them discomfort in their military boots. They leaned on each other to recuperate before setting off again.

They needed to reach the village where they would be staying tonight before dark. They needed to hurry.

On the most dangerous slope, a few male students found two fir trees and tied the escape rope tightly. Then, he held the rope tightly with both hands and kicked at the fir tree to ensure that it was tied tightly.

It was three stories high. One escape rope couldn’t reach the bottom, so they tied three together before it could be placed down.

”Okay, throw down the escape rope. Hold on to the lowering gear.”

”Roger that.”

Song Zhiqiu and Ye Jian buckled the deceleration device to the escape rope and carried their backpacks. Their rifles were placed horizontally on their backpacks. The two of them gave their comrades a thumbs-up to show that everything was good.

”Prepare to drop.”

A few male students were still tightening the rope around the fir tree. Everyone stared intently at the two people who were starting to descend. They held their breaths.

This was their first outdoor survival training. They had to rely on themselves. If anything happened, they had to solve it themselves. No one wanted anything to happen in a desolate place.
