Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

It was definitely impossible to go to the villagers’ houses. They were not allowed to disturb the villagers during outdoor survival training. Sleeping at the villagers’ houses would be disturbing the villagers.

Ye Jian’s fingers, which were so wet from the rain, became wrinkled as she drew on the map. She decided to stay at the elementary school that was about five kilometers away.

There were a total of three villages in this mountainous area. The children in the villages all studied at Wang Jia’ao Hope Primary School. The village they were in now was called Liu Jia’ao. Hence, the villagers here had the surname Liu. The villagers in Wang Jia’ao had the surname Wang.

When Xu Wen heard that they were going to the elementary school tonight, she was very happy even though her legs were sore and swollen.

In that case, there was no need for courage training!

After passing through a few village houses with white limestone peeling off and exposed mud bricks, Xu Wen, who came from the capital city, couldn’t help but take a few more glances at the mud brick houses. They were commonly seen in the villages in the early 1990s.

While looking at the dim tungsten lamps, a bolt of lightning flashed in the dark rain. Under the pale lightning, Xu Wen saw the appearance of the entire place and trembled. She didn’t dare to look anymore.

The greenish-black tiles and the mottled limestone walls revealed large amounts of mud bricks. There were even a few cracks on the main wall that rats could enter. It didn’t look like there were villagers living here. It was terrifying.

Ye Jian was very familiar with mud-brick houses like this. Her hometown in Shuikou Village still relied on mud bricks to build houses. However, Uncle Chen later painted their house with white paint and polished the floor with colored stones. It was much brighter than the mud-brick houses Xu Wen saw.

This was the first time Xu Wen saw houses like this. She patted her chest lightly. She really didn’t know that such houses existed. The main wall was cracked. Wasn’t this a dangerous house?

Why were people still living here?

Holding her flashlight, Xu Wen walked with her head lowered. She didn’t dare to look around anymore.

Strangers had come to the village, which alarmed the dogs raised by the villagers. The barking of dogs could be heard in the heavy rain, adding to the desolation of the rainy night. A few barking sounds came from afar.

Ye Jian, who was walking along the muddy path in the village, raised her head and saw two small green dots that looked like an animal’s eyes. She swept her flashlight over and saw a yellow and black dog in their way. As the flashlight shone, the dog clamped its tail and barked loudly at the strangers who had barged into the village.

Ye Jian bent down and picked up a rock by the roadside. She threw it at the dog and shouted, ”Go!” The dog, which was barking fiercely a second ago, wilted instantly and ran away with its tail between its legs.

Dogs were famous for their sharp noses. Ye Jian’s actions of throwing a rock at it made the dog feel that there was a murderous aura on Ye Jian, who had walked out of the battlefield. Dogs and babies could feel it the most.

Hence, Ye Jian never carried babies. She was afraid of scaring them.

Principal Chen had reminded her before, and so had Xia Jinyuan.

Xia Jinyuan had never hugged the twins Xia Yiwei gave birth to.

The students at the back didn’t notice anything. The dogs in the village were making a bit of a fuss. A few villagers opened their doors and shone flashlights around their houses. They didn’t see anything, so they returned to their houses.

The mountain roads were much more difficult to walk on than the flat roads in the city. Every day, the students of Liu Jia’ao would follow the path that Ye Jian and the rest had taken to reach the school.

It was common knowledge that it was difficult for children in the mountains to go to school.
