Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 836: Chapter 810: Helping the Vulnerable Is Never Wrong

Chen Xiaoqian wasn’t intentionally bullying Zheng Xu.

Her voice had become hoarse, preventing her from recording the hypnosis guidance words. She initially considered asking Dayi to try, but considering Dayi’s voice and speech rate were not suitable for Zheng Xu, Chen Xiaoqian asked Aka to record instead. Although Aka’s major courses were a complete mess, her voice frequency was most similar to Chen’s, and Chen wrote down the rhythm for her, which Aka could recite.

Zheng Xu couldn’t bear to listen to it. Hearing this blonde made him think of hemorrhoids, even the pleasant kind.

Early the next morning, Dayi came over to find Chen Xiaoqian, and the two had agreed to go to Central Hospital. Chen deliberately stalled, looking around for a while before driving out of the residential complex.

”Qian, are you waiting for someone?”

”No.” Chen Xiaoqian found it odd, why didn’t Aka come today?

She thought that after Aka confessed to her, Aka would follow her every day, but it was a bit strange that she wasn’t here on such an occasion today.

Central Hospital’s lecture hall was packed today. Even though the world-renowned lecture only invited critically ill patients from major hospitals in the city, many hospital leaders and doctors came, standing without seats. The transparent meeting room was crowded with people outside, and the blinds were raised for convenient viewing. With Mr. Liu’s connections, the director had deliberately saved a place for her.

As Chen and Dayi went upstairs, they saw the orderly crowd, with two hospital security guards at the elevator door filtering visitors to maintain order for the lecture. Chen took out her credential, and the security let her and Dayi pass.

Since those observing all held some status, it was very quiet inside, with the lecture yet to begin. Chen led Dayi over, and the director gestured for her when he saw Chen.

”Mr. Sun, hasn’t it started yet?”

”Not yet, according to time it should have started...” Mr. Sun looked at his watch, thinking about the pride of this international authority.

Chen felt even less impressed with Mr. Qio, what kind of nonsense, making a room full of people wait?

”Let’s go over!”

A dispute arose from there, and the director and others looked over to see a middle-aged man arguing with security.

The director signaled with his eyes, the deputy director went over to inquire, and quickly returned.

”What’s going on?”

”This is a patient’s family member. He heard about Mr. Qio’s lecture somewhere and wants to sign up for his father, but it’s impossible, the spots are limited.”

”Do some persuasion. Mr. Qio never has more than 20 people at his lectures. Since he was hard to invite, don’t miss the opportunity.”

Chen’s eyes fell, full of sarcasm.

Judging by the family’s attire, they probably didn’t have much money, looking like farmers. In these rare opportunities, limited spots are sure to go to those with better conditions, and this damned professor has so much nonsense, what’s one more person for a lecture?

Compared to the teachers, this damned professor’s medical ethics are much worse.

Chen didn’t want to be an apprentice even more, she had an idea.

”Deputy director, I’ll go over with you.”

”Chen, Mr. Qio is coming soon; don’t stay away for too long.” The director had personal ties with Mr. Liu, so even though Chen didn’t have an official position yet, they still gave her some respect.

Chen nodded and spoke to Dayi.

”Dayi, stay here. If I don’t come back in a while, record notes diligently and show them to me, okay?”

Dayi hesitated, looked at the anxious middle-aged man, and knew what Qian intended to do.

”Qian, should I go? I can do it too.”

”Young people, don’t miss out on opportunities.” Chen patted Dayi’s shoulder and then walked determinedly toward the middle-aged man.

These steps seemed so noble to Dayi, but Chen’s heart was bursting with joy.

Hahaha~

She upheld medical ethics, helping the poor, wasn’t that fair? Even if Mr. Liu found out later that she left, he wouldn’t be angry with her because if Mr. Liu were here, she would do the same thing!

Couldn’t be more satisfying.

Qian walked solemnly to the middle-aged man. The man, hindered by security, knelt on the ground, covering his face with his hands, appearing utterly desperate.

The father was already in late-stage cancer, the devoted son’s heart couldn’t bear it; upon hearing the psychology authority was coming, he wanted his father to listen. For families dealing with advanced cancer, they want to try any method, no matter how small the chance. They don’t want to give up, regardless if it works or not.

Yet, the meeting room was just about twenty meters away, but the thing called identity and status in this corridor kept him shut out, within reach but unattainable.

”I’m psychologist Chen Xiaoqian.” Chen stood before the man. The man raised his eyes, seeing a young girl, his hopeful gaze turned to disappointment.

”I’m willing to go see your father.”

”You’re so young... Ah, is this the hospital’s way of dismissing me?” The man only blamed himself for being inept, unable to fight for a chance for his father.

”Young doesn’t mean incapable. I have plenty of clinical experience. I believe I can help you. Even if your father comes to this room, there are dozens of people here, and for an elderly person, hearing isn’t necessarily great, and he wouldn’t notice any effect. I can individually help if I visit.

The man glanced at the meeting room, knowing he definitely couldn’t get in. Perhaps Chen’s confident professional tone moved him, or maybe because he had no other options now. The man had to believe Chen and followed her into the elevator.

The director watched Chen enter, feeling anxious. Mr. Liu specifically emphasized letting Chen stay for the lecture. He looked at other intern psychologists in the hospital, who all moved their gaze to avoid meeting the director’s eyes.

This chance to attend a lecture from an international authority is invaluable, and no one wanted to replace Chen. People are selfish.

Only Dayi wanted to switch, but Qian didn’t let her go. She knew Qian’s personality was resolute. If she didn’t want to stay, no one could hold her back, so she would stay to help Qian take good notes.

Dayi internally vowed to become a high-ethics doctor like Qian in the future.

Chen followed the family member downstairs. On the way, she briefly inquired about the man’s family situation. This family is farmers, living off corn cultivation. The father, aged 72, had late-stage cancer. Most farmers in such situations would let the elderly return home to await death, but the son, a retired soldier, was very devoted and unwilling to let his father pass away, scraping together money to extend the father’s life.

Now the father had an unfulfilled wish; his grandson was about to take the college entrance exam. The father hoped to hold on until after the exam and witness his grandson attend college.

For diligent students from poorer backgrounds, studying is the only way out. Although Chen sees that college graduates don’t necessarily have good jobs, it’s ultimately this family’s entire hope. Without studying, there’s even less chance for survival. Every time Chen sees such families eager for a change in fate, she particularly wants to drag her carefree younger brother to take a look: when he is indifferent about his college education, there are families like these relentlessly pursuing hope and striving hard.
