Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 816: Chapter 790: You Don’t Become Cute Just Because You’re Sick

Gradually, this feeling was magnified infinitely by Qian, a mix of self-loathing and fear of having her secret discovered intertwined in her heart. She began to suffer from insomnia, started to panic, felt like someone was stalking her, and felt that everyone was looking at her the wrong way.

Qian knew she needed to see a psychologist, but for someone with her mindset, going to the psychiatry department was tantamount to telling the whole world she was ”crazy.” If everyone found out what had happened to her, how could she continue in Lishi?

Lishi, although large, was mostly familiar. Qian was afraid that her visit to Lishi’s psychiatry department would be discovered by acquaintances, so she deviated, detouring, and self-righteously found a ”safe” little county.

Who would have thought that after all the detouring, she’d still end up with someone familiar... Of course, Qian hadn’t recognized Qian yet; she was wearing sunglasses after removing her glasses, making everything blurry. Also, her mental tension was high, leaving her little room for recognizing people.

”Alright, it’s okay if you don’t want to talk. Just fill out this form assessing the extent of your trauma. Once you’re done, I’ll discuss your situation.”

Qian rummaged through the drawer, searching out a pile of printed forms. As there were quite a few, it took her a little longer to find what she needed.

”Where did you graduate from, how long have you been a psychologist, what’s your highest degree—do you really know how to treat patients?”

A bothersome patient doesn’t become adorable just because they’re sick, as evident with Qian.

Qian couldn’t be bothered to answer doubts about her medical skills. This was a public job; had it been her private practice, she’d undoubtedly raise the price without a second thought if a patient spoke to her like that.

”Fill out the form first.”

Qian handed the paper to her, and Qian scribbled over it.

After a while, she handed the completed form to Qian. Qian casually flipped through it, then closed the form.

”Human willpower isn’t as strong as imagined. Physical reactions aren’t controlled by the brain, so you must first let go of your self-condemnation and open yourself up to me. Only then can I plan the next steps for your treatment.”

”I don’t understand what you’re saying...”

”In cases of female victimization, it’s normal for married women to react, because physical pleasure isn’t brain-controlled. But this doesn’t mean the other party isn’t a bad person. If you don’t counsel yourself this way and keep refusing to confide in your psychologist, you’ll never get past your psychological shadow.”

Qian favored a line from a book that said: ”If you’re bitten by a dog and feel pain, does that make you a coward?”

Pain and pleasure, these feelings aren’t always brain-controlled. Approximately 90% of female victimization cases domestically go unreported, partly due to fear of public opinion, but for some, like Qian in cases of married women, it’s because they feel pleasure and shame, so they remain silent. Deep down, the person they cannot forgive the most is themselves.

This unscientific notion that love leads to sex, and that without love there shouldn’t be feelings, doesn’t match physiological characteristics, and has become one of the main reasons many victims develop psychological illnesses. Qian, shackled by traditional female morality, not only shackles others but herself too.

Qian had spoken to this extent, yet Qian still refused to reveal the truth.

”I can’t understand what you’re saying.”

Qian closed the case file and lifted her face; it was time for a big reveal.

Qian gently tapped the table, ”This PTSD form, that is, the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder screening, shows you’ve suffered harm from the opposite sex in recent times, causing you to feel alienated from society and exhibiting depressive tendencies. You’ve reached a stage where treatment is necessary; if you continue to avoid it, your everyday life and work will be affected.”

”Exaggeration!”

”Alright, I’ll give you something solid. Your black-framed glasses are with me.”

After Qian threw out this bombshell, the room was completely silent for a full minute.

Qian initially didn’t react; weren’t her glasses at home? Why did this doctor say they were with her?

Hold on, weren’t those glasses a different color, made after? She did have a pair of black-framed glasses, but didn’t they disappear after that incident?

Qian’s face went pale: Could it be, could it be...!!!

”The person who saved you that night is my friend. You should remember a girl saved you, and you owe her a thank you and an apology. Previously, when she applied at your school, you rejected her due to gender discrimination, but during the incident, she only thought about saving you, and you yelled at her and left.”

Qian calmly revealed the truth.

The implication being, there’s no need for you to struggle; I know everything, confess.

Qian’s face went pale, then she felt dizzy, as if the world was flipping over.

She began breathing rapidly, unable to believe her luck could be so poor. She’d taken such a lengthy detour just to avoid acquaintances, came to the mental disorder recovery center in a small county to see a doctor, and unexpectedly encountered someone who knew everything!

”You, you, you—how much do you want!”

”20.”

”I’m asking how much you want, how much you need to keep quiet!” Qian’s lips trembled; she was now extremely frightened, feeling her fate held in another’s hands.

”20 is the registration fee. Since you’ve completed the form, there may be an additional charge for a few more dollars. You can pay those at the counter later, and now you can speak to me honestly, openly.”

”I’m asking how much you want—I don’t want this getting out; I’ll pay whatever you ask!”

”I’m very fond of money, but a gentleman loves wealth and earns it properly. I make money based on my skills because my business acumen is high, but I’m not desperate enough to blackmail patients with their secrets—that’s a crime.”

Even she can’t make enough, taking petty threatening cash is low.

”I don’t believe you don’t want any money. Do you want my principal position be handed over to someone else? You have too much ambition!”

Qian hurriedly wrote in the case file, adding another note.

”You might also have mild delusional tendencies. We’ll need to complete a delusional scale later.”

As for that petty school, even if given freely, Qian wouldn’t accept it. This principal certainly has an exaggerated self-assessment.

”You’ve schemed to unearth my secret—all for this, haven’t you? I won’t let you succeed, I won’t...” Qian nervously staggered back.

Qian closed the case file.

”It seems your condition is more severe and may require cooperation with a psychiatrist to prescribe medication for emotional stabilization. Also, you can’t entirely trust me, so you’ll need to switch to another psychologist, then you can visit the adjacent psychiatry department for medication to help with your recent sleep issues.”

Since unwilling to trust her, Qian was also unwilling to force her.
