Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 822: Chapter 796: Anxiety Upon Meeting You on a Rainy Night

”Currently, this is indeed a blank area. If a community has a patient with mental disorders which greatly inconveniences the neighbors, but if they are non-aggressive, they can’t be forced into a psychiatric hospital for treatment.”

”That sounds terrible...”

”Mom, you might take this lightly, but I heard from Fugui that he once encountered a case like this where an elderly couple was peacefully eating at home and suddenly a psychiatric patient rushed in with a knife and killed them.”

”Oh my! That’s utterly heartless!” Liumei’s mother was horrified.

”What’s even more heartless is that, after Fugui and his team evaluated the situation, since the patient was in a state of psychiatric breakdown, they couldn’t be sentenced to death, and the children of that couple were devastated, and protested daily at Fugui’s office feeling wronged. The son even attacked Fugui.”

”If he wasn’t my future son-in-law, I might say it’s good that he got hit...” Liumei’s foster mother whispered, then quickly plastered a smile when she noticed Qian was also there.

”Just joking, since we’re family, I won’t say anything.”

Qian smiled, understanding Liumei’s foster mother’s sentiments.

Ordinary people do feel it’s extremely unfair hearing about these things, and Fugui’s job does attract a lot of resentment. If they diagnose a fake psychiatric patient, those people might threaten or bribe Fugui’s team. After Fugui’s team uphold justice, they offend these fakers trying to evade legal punishment.

If it’s a genuine psychiatric patient, after Fugui’s team lawfully handle the case, the victim’s family resents Fugui’s team to no end.

Its anger indeed, knowing someone could kill people and evade legal punishment just because they’re a psychiatric patient, how infuriating.

”I feel like I’m truly a perfect match with Fugui, mom, you know? The location of the interest class I decided to start up is right next to Fugui’s new office! We’ll walk to and from work together from now on, and if anyone dares take out their anger on innocent Fugui, I’ll kick them out!”

Liumei spoke with such excitement.

”You, girl, haven’t even married yet and you’re already calling him ’Fugui’ repeatedly. Look at you.” Her foster mother poked her forehead, and Liumei chuckled.

”Fugui said, after Qian and Yu Minglang’s wedding, we’ll get our marriage certificate, and then go to the Maldives for our honeymoon.”

”That’s too rushed, both families need some preparation time. Why are you so eager to get married, could it be—”

Her foster mother’s gaze moved to Liumei’s belly. Maybe she’s pregnant?

”What are you thinking? We’re just maintaining a pure romantic relationship!” Liumei blushed, as they only kissed and that was it.

Afraid that her mom might continue on the topic of her belly, Liumei decided to change the subject.

”Sis, what would you do if you lived next to someone with a mental disorder?”

”Most people with mental disorders aren’t aggressive, so even if you have such a neighbor, there’s no need to be overly fearful or unnecessarily discriminate against them. But don’t tease them because they have a disorder, as that might trigger their symptoms. But if there are violent tendencies...”

Qian sighed, ”Report it to the community, and they’ll coordinate with guardians to send the patient for treatment. If the guardians are unwilling, then it’s best to move out.”

”What?” Liumei and her foster mother were surprised; you never really understand a situation until you inquire about it.

”If you’ve coordinated with the community and the guardians still won’t act, once the psychiatric patient causes an incident, the guardians will face legal responsibility, but the trouble is your harm would already be done, so moving is better.”

Is there truly fairness in the world? If you really want absolute fairness, some hereditary mental illnesses are carried since birth; even the creator wasn’t fair to psychiatric patients.

”Luckily, the neighbor has sent their son to the hospital, otherwise we might really have had to move. Apparently, they initially sent their son to a city hospital, but when they couldn’t afford it, they moved him to the county one...”

”You mean, they transferred him to your county’s hospital?” Qian had a sudden realization. Could it be?

The patient she saw today at the psychiatric hospital was indeed obsessed with delusions.

It was no surprise that something felt odd when Liumei’s foster mother mentioned it; listening closely, Qian understood it all!

”You say he stands in the yard at night shouting a woman’s name; that name, it wouldn’t be Meiwei, would it?”

”Yes! That’s exactly it, don’t know what unfortunate girl caught the eye of this psychiatric patient, shouting her name every night, right at midnight like a ghost haunting!”

”Well, that unfortunate person is me.” Qian sighed.

Midnight 12:30 is when she wraps up her late-night talk show.

Round and round, she ended up next to the psychiatric patient’s neighborhood.

Liumei remembered, surprised at Qian, ”Sis, your charm is so huge that even psychiatric patients are drawn to you?”

Qian gave her a speechless look. ”Would you like to have this charm?”

”Haha, better not. Luckily, that man was sent to the psychiatric hospital, otherwise, if he saw you coming to my house, would he climb over the wall to find you?”

After she said it, Liumei too felt scared, shivering.

Qian was thoroughly disgusted by the thought. If someone shouted her name at night while imagining her as his wife, she would definitely send Xiaoqiang out to beat him up.

”What are you two talking about?” Liumei’s foster mother didn’t understand.

Liumei pulled her aside to explain the happenings.

Qian didn’t feel like chatting anymore, her heart was antsy, like something major was about to happen. Maybe it was because of the heavy rain outside making her worry about Xiaoqiang in the mountains, or perhaps it was learning what Liumei’s foster mother said about the psychiatric patient with the terrifying gaze being one of her admirers.

Qian stood by the window, watching the torrential rain pelting wildly and messily on the glass, the house next door with the psychiatric son had already dimmed their lights.

Qian tried calling Yu Minglang again, this time it connected.

”Mei, are you awake?”

”No, I’m spending the night at Liumei’s house today.”

Hearing his voice settled Qian’s heart a bit, ”Where are you?”

His background noise sounded quiet, seemingly safe at the moment.

”We retreated to the town, should not be far from you.”

”Is the work done?”

”Yes, but we received a notification from the meteorological station about possible road blockages due to falling rocks from the heavy weather. We coincidentally stayed to help clean roads tomorrow after the rain stops with the transportation department.”

”...Is this within your department’s responsibilities?” Truthfully, this shouldn’t have been their task.

”The county’s available public resources are quite limited, we’re nearby to lend a hand, serving the people after all.”
